Treasure Pile
Price: +4,000 gp
Property: Armor or Shield
Caster Level: 10th
Aura: Strong (DC 22) transmutation
Activation: Swift (mental) for shields; Move (mental) for Armor

The pile of treasure the dragon is sleeping on suddenly forms into armor protecting the dragon as it wakes.

A Treasure Pile Shield or Armor has the ability to transform into a pile of gold, silver, and copper coins equal to it's worth upon activation (The exact amount of each is chosen on item creation, and may be edited if another enchantment is placed on the item). It may stay in this form indefinitely, but no coin may be removed from the pile - any coin moved more then 10 ft away teleports back to it's original place. If the item is dispelled while in this form, or subjected to an anti-magic field, it immediately transforms back into it's base form. If a creature is on the pile of coins when this happens (such as a dragon sleeping on it), that creature is automatically equipped with the item. If multiple creatures are on it, it goes to the creature that activated it, or a random creature if none of the creatures activated it.

A second activation will transform the item back into the base form and equip it, following the same rules as if it was dispelled.

As an additional benefit, if a Treasure Pile armor or shield is ever sundered or destroyed, and this ability is not suppressed, the armor or shield shatters into the same pile of coins as if it was activated, although these coins can not turn back into the item: they are completely mundane coins. This benefit does not work against a Disjunction.
