View Full Version : Will work for games: Playtesters for hire no.2

I was told that my last post was in the wrong place, so I'm re-posting here.

My high school gaming club is in need of fresh material. If anyone out there has a game that they need playtested, or if they know of publishers looking for playtesters, our club is willing to offer its services for no price.... we just feel that an arrangement like this would be beneficial.

We get games to play, you get feedback...

There's the FF D6 module on the homebrew forums. I hear it plays out very well.

Could you tell them about us?

I let them know, you can find the system here:

As I am not the creator of the FF2D6 program, I am unable to speak with authority.
However, I know for a fact 3 PBP and 2 RL games at the least are already being conducted. Additional players are welcome, but I believe that many other homebrew systems may need this more than FF2D6.
However, I highly encourage everyone to play FF2D6, no matter what. It's fun beyond bounds.

Well, me and some friends are working on a card game that is somewhat of a cross between MTG and Elements (http://www.elementsthegame.com/), if you are interested in these as well.

Basically you got 7 universal forces (light, darkness, order, chaos, creation, destruction and time) you can combine as you see fit, build a deck, and take them out for a fight.

A bit simplistic, but offers a nice veraity so far, with some nice diverse options so far (from rush, to field control, heavy defenses with a bit of hard-to-stop hitters, energy denial, and even turning your opponent's entire deck against themselves.)

There are some other rules that make this game quite different (for example, "rare" cards are stronger version of the very same card-and I mean they count as the SAME card for cross-card references or card limit in deck. but you are limited on just how many rares you are allowed to play.)

I'll talk to the others, maybe we'll release you some sort of a list of proxy cards you can play with.

So there is a module for the FFd6 game now? Or did you mean the system?

Also, what is FF2d6? Or is that just a typo?

Yes! I know of a homebrew system that's looking for playtesters right now, as a matter of fact. It's fairly similar to the premise of D&D, but with rather different mechanics (takes 'bout ten minutes to put together a starting character tops if you have other RPG experience; longer if not). They're still working on it, but they've got five main character classes out for the first setting (classes are setting-specific), and it's incredibly easy to homebrew classes and stuff (practically all NPC enemies/monsters are homebrew, for example).

Anyway, it's what I play. PM me and I'll PM you their email address (since I'm not here to advertise for them). Email them and they'll send you whatever they have that you want.

EDIT: Screw it. Their email's in my sig.

Seconding (thirding? fourthing?) all FFD6 suggestions. There's also the semi-comical Pirates Vs. Ninjas RPG (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130653), which I love as a system, and is really interesting.

You may or may not enjoy the Final Fantasy d6 - it's a big document and is designed predominantly for fans of the games. But if you do decide to give it a shot, I'd relish any feedback or suggestions, and you can find it in the sig.

You might also consider taking a look at this (http://rpggeek.com/thread/594652/pay-for-playtesters) fellow offering to pay
playtesters for what sounds like a fascinating, surreal sort of non-combat game.

Dairun's work is solid. He is the freaking man.

Also, I need testers for d20 Rebirth (http://forum.faxcelestis.net/viewforum.php?f=2).

Here's (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98722) the old core thread.

Relevant:

So I find myself not satisfied with how 4.0 turned out: it feels different, to me, than how D&D should feel. The powers etc. make for a well-balanced, interesting game, but I personally find that the level of customization and structure inherent within the 3.5 game to be superior. That's not to say that 3.5 is without flaws: far from it.

But that's where this thread comes in.

I am going to recodify the d20 system (that is, the 3.5 rules available in the SRD under the OGL) into a cohesive system that is simple to use and is more balanced for all players involved.

Why not Pathfinder? Well, that's a good question. The Pathfinder system is a healthy alternative to your standard 3.5 game, but it makes some design decisions that I don't particularly agree with and I don't feel it fixes everything that needs to be fixed.

And the old Open Alpha (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132683) thread.

Everything I've done on Animorphs (not nearly enough for a whole game) is here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140194&highlight=animorphs).
It would be nice to see how it goes in real play...

This has, to the best of my knowledge, never been played, and may be incomplete; it started as an attempt to satisfy those players complaining that things allowed by real-world physics are disallowed in game.

That said, here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169583&highlight=godology) is Godology. Maybe your group will like the idea well enough to fill in the blanks.

EDIT: forgot it was posted elsewhere, so no more wall of text.

So it is essentially "DnD according to Fax Celestis"? it seems interesting, but i feel that the best part of a game is the world and story, not the mechanics... and if this is just regular dnd 3.51, then there isnt too much of a reason to play it unless you also disagree with the regular mechanics. Not that i have anything against it.

What d20r's main effort is to fix the 3.5 game for all kinds of play, ranging from casual sandbox to high-op epic. It is a complicated process, and there are a lot of things in it (http://forum.faxcelestis.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=256) that have changed significantly, and still other things in it that were not present in the original game that I felt were necessary enough to create a balanced gaming atmosphere that I had to include them.

Yes, it is not exactly a 'brand new' game. However, it is one that many, many people played as the broken 3.5 system, and it is my hope that my efforts will allow them to continue enjoying said system even after the advent of high-op game-breaking tricks made possible by exploiting holes in the system.

The game's "best part" may well be story and world, not mechanics, but an incredible story cannot overcome poor mechanics, as it is saddled with the problems of the system--the world becomes a place where things don't work right if the system can't support it. I have played in countless games (tabletop and otherwise) that were gorgeous and engaging, but were hampered by an inadequate or exploitable system--and frankly, that lack of a solid mechanical basis ruined those games for me. It is my job, as a designer, to provide a firm mechanical foundation for a DM to work off of, so that their creations are supported by the mechanical system, instead of held back by it.

Fatescape (link in my sig) is ready for alpha playtesting. I suspect it's a bit broken in many places, but I really need some actual play feedback to find out where.

you do know that there are people out there who almost completely disregard the mechanics? they have said (or at least implied) that in the dnd books, each and every rule is nothing more than a guide line, and that the DM has last call on everything. Personally, my only problem with the game is finding a good balance for encounters, and i think that that problem may just be my own inexperience as DM. I don't want to seem like i am attacking your system or something, i just feel that it should be presented as an alternative to something, rather than a completly different game in and of itself.

Why yes, there are. I did explicitly call those people out in my post. However, for many people, a poor mechanical basis for a game renders the rest of it unsalvageable.

Thats fine, i've no beef with that, more power to you...
...all i mean is that, your project is not a game in and of it self (i sound like a broken record...). What it does is attempt to add playablity to a system that you perceive flaws in, which is fine, i'm not arguing, in fact, i agree with you that certain parts of the game need updating, i'm just calling it as i see it.

But this thread is not about whether or not your new system is good or bad, i never said it was bad, it just is a good alternative to a pre-existing game which is not what i am looking for.

For everyone who plays by your rules and prefers and enjoys them, i wholeheartedly support, just that is not really what i am looking for for my club.

as it stands now, my club is pretty set for games for a while.
February we will be playing the Street Fighter Storytelling game
and in march, we will tackle the Final fantasy D6 system, and i'm taking suggestions for afterwards, so if you do need a homebrew playtested, it will take us a while to get around to it, but to all who posted, thank you.
