Greetings,

In my tabletop game, I have a Focused Specialist Conjurer 5/Incantatrix 10. We just leveled up to 15 and I can't, for the life of me, figure out what to do with the rest of my 5 levels. I already have amazing ideas for both my feats, but I'll likely have to sacrifice one to gain entry in a prestige class.

But then again, all of these prestige classes that I'm checking out only net out in a free feat gain. Loremaster will give me a free knowledge focus feat, effectively, in exchange for deferring my current feat. Master Specialist will give me a free spellcraft focus feat, in exchange for deferring. And so on.

I'm tempted to just go back to straight wizard and get the bonus feat at level 20 (theoretical) - that way I get to use my feat right away, as well as gain another one at level 20.

1 level of Wayfarer Guide is handy. Its essentially a +3 CL when casting teleporation spells. The 2nd level loses a spellcaster level, which sucks, but the first level is perfectly fine. Prereqs are REALLY low.

Other than that, 4 levels of Fatespinner are pretty fun and easy to qualify for. Nothing says luvin like adding 4 points of spin to your highest level spell and forcing like, DC37 save vs deaths/dismemberment/disrobement, and the 2/day rerolls you get are nice when your DM decides to be a mean and roll a 20 to save. Its up to you to determine if the 5th level is worth it. I mean, its a 1/day autosuccess on a given spell, but it costs you the spells you'd get for that 20th level of spellcasting. So...yea, do the math.

Excellent. Simple entry requirement like these are what I'm looking for.

with the fatespinner could you do the autosuccess on a casting of, say, wail of the banshee and have it autokill all 20 of the people, or is it just saves against other's spells. I lack the book but I'm curious. cause that would be a pretty amazing class feature.

Its not actually an autosuccess. Its a -10 to a target's save vs one of your spells. That is pretty much an autosuccess, as most things would only save on a 20 at that point, and you can make them reroll twice with other Fatespinner class abilities.

The biggest drawback, is that the target can't have more HD than you. Which kinda stucks, because the things you REALLY want to DIE HORRIBLY are the "boss" type foes. Thats generally why the 5th level is not taken. If it didn't have that clause, it would actually be worth the lost caster level.

Elves qualify for Olin Gisir (Lost Empires of Faerun 21). As a specialist, you probably qualify for Master Specialist (Complete Mage 70). Fatespinner (Complete Arcane 37) is handy for 4 levels.

You could always go back to Wizard.

Master Specialist's low-level perks won't mean as much at the level you're now playing, but they're a step up from straight wizard.

Five levels of Malconvoker would get you the lovely Fiendish Legion ability, and a few other modest perks, at a cost of some cross-class skill investment.

Mage of the Arcane Order means taking Cooperative Spell, but gives you back another metamagic feat, and helps with having just the right low-level utility spell at any given time. Plus, it meshes well with Incantatrix fluff.

Paragnostic Apostle from Complete Champion is another favourite "what do I finish off with" kind of class. Manifest Ethos can be surprisingly helpful at high levels, when you occasionally want to just do damage but are facing energy-immune targets.

If you are allowed content from Dragon, there is the Incantifier class. Basically you become a quasi-undead spell eater. You lose the ability to be healed from resting or curative magic, but any spells that fail to overcome your SR heals you (you can use this on yourself) or alternatively you can use it to regain lost spells. You get two bonus metamagic feats. The only downside is that you get spellcasting 3/5 progression.
Requirements are: Any nongood, Knowledge (Arcana) 14, Spellcraft 14, able to cast 6th arcane spells. Special: Taught by an Incantifier, ritual costing 120,000gp and 4,800xp.
It's in Dragon 339.

I'm playing a sorcerer Incantatrix and i'm toping it off with the first 4 levels of Fatespinner. manipulating rolls and saves is just wicked fun. Can't really think of much else.... maybe Mage of the Arcane Order, but i'm not really sure about that class because i'm working on a loner type so being in an organization really didn't fit.

You can still be a loner and be part of an organization. I'm somewhat of a loner IRL yet I have DnD groups I belong to. See what I mean? Its just how you roleplay it.

That is true, but when I mean loner, I don't mean the kind of guy who avoids people, I mean the kind of guy who wanders deserts and the wilderness. So, less antisocial loner than the type of loner who simply hasn't met very many people ever.
