For best pairing, I vote for the Shadewing and the Dawnfeather. The cycle of changing status would create a really interesting dynamic to play with.

For best individual creature, I vote for the Soldier of Misfortune. I think it's one of the better uses of undead I've seen, and I can't resist a good pun.

I liked Die Meinungenteriche/Herzenteriche pairing, and good use of German is always worth a bonus point, but there wasn't quite enough to distinguish them from all other types of dragon. As such, I had to vote as I did.

Best Predator/Prey Couple: Sign me up for the drakes. I like the concept of thought against emotion, of calculated vs. spontaneous action.

Best Entry: The Talpidae. You took my favorite subterranean animal and turned it into a CR 17 monstrosity.

Honestly, I can't begin to decide who I feel has the best entry, and the pairings come close as well. My vote for best pairing would, in the end, be the Champions of Krav and Turtia. I love the idea of the ever-spanning contest between them with all of the multiverse's creatures, down to the one last epic confrontation of their Champions.

My vote for best pairing goes to Dawnwing/Shadefeather. I really liked the idea and didn't feel that the others broke the typical prey/predator mold enough.

If i had a second one it would go to Widow’s Weed/Soldier of Misfortune. You guys did a great job. Unfortunately I don't, so all I can give is my praise

Best Pair- Widow's Weed/Soldier of Misfortune.
Best individual-Widow's Weed.

Naturally, I think the paring I worked on is the best, but I'd feel bad voting for my own creations, so my next favorite pairing is the Skyclimber Lizard/Spectre Breeder. My favorite individual monster is also the Skyclimber Lizard.

Added the current votes.

@Mangles
You have a favorite individual entry as well you want me to add?

Draken

I echo Glyphstone's sentiment that I think the drake duo is the best, but wouldn't feel good voting for them. :smalltongue:

As a pairing, I will give it to the Window's Weed/Soldier of Misfortune, pretty interesting stuff there.

Best entry, however, will be the Shadefeather. It is incredible.

As a pairing, I'm going to go with Window's Weed/Soldier of Misfortune. I like the way that both creatures are more of a natural predator/prey rather than creatures that exist solely to oppose one another.

My overall vote goes to Widow's Weed for the same reasons as mentioned above.

For sheer, epic awesomeness, I'm going to have to go for the Champion of Krav/Champion of Turtia pairing. I liked the backstory, and how each partner got to design their own God(dess) to accompany their creations. That lent solidity to the two champions; they don't exist in a vacuum, but have a concrete history and purpose.

I ask you, how can you top something so awesome? A clash between these two would make a fitting capstone to any campaign, or perhaps an entire setting that a DM has decided to retire. A true clash of Titans, if ever there was one. (Though centuriancode needs to watch his spelling and grammar, and maybe tighten up his prose a little.)

Runners-Up (in my opinion):

I thought that the Widow's Weed/Soldier of Misfortune was an extremely interesting combination, and very well thought-out. I liked the bit about using cloth made from Widow's Weed to put the Soldiers to rest permanently, and it was a refreshing change that the SoMs themselves were not immune to being ordered around, unlike most undead. (Also, nice work incorporating Tennyson into the flavor text!)

I really liked the Arcana Check results for the Skyclimber Lizard//Spectre Breeders. These would make fascinating sidequests to any campaign. The mechanics of the Skyclimber was mind-bendingly cool, and opens up interesting avenues of thought. Excellent work on the Lore checks and Adventure Hooks, by the way!

Dawnwing/Shadefeather for best pair. Intensely nifty flavour. Sun chasing Moon, throughout eternity. I wonder, if one catches the other, is that an eclipse?

Soldier of Misfortune for best individual; it and the Widow's Weed are both great but their pairing was simply less perfect than the others. I just have a soft spot for undead, hence why it won over the weed...

I like the Champions but I can't accept that they're actually CR 20: no non spellcasters have a chance to oppose either while i'm not sure spellcasters could challenge

Edit: Also, thanks to anyone who commented kindly on our work!

Champion of Krav for best monster.

Widow's Weed/ Soldier of Misfortune for best pair.

Wow. So I have to choose just one pair and one individual. Hrmmm. This was a tough decision. Like some of the others, I thought the pair I worked on was really good. However, I'd feel wrong voting for my own work, particularly since the other creations were so good.

In the end, I'd have to go with the Ramovita/Kettumere for Best Pairing. I thought they fit the theme of the contest best (except for Our work, of course :smallwink:)

For Best Individual, my vote goes to Widow's Weed. I liked the idea of a plant that fed off undead, and the mechanics worked well.

I really liked the Shadefeather/Dawnwing as well (they'll go great with the Sun/Moon deities of the world I'm creating).

I'll second the thanks for the kind comments we recieved. I had fun working on this contest, and I hope our creatures get used some day. Mulletmanalive did the great work on the Lore/Plot Hooks, by the way. My congratulations to him for it.

@ Vorpral: Yeah I do have an individual entry but i needed to think about it alot more before i voted

And i vote for Widow's Weed as the individual entry. This is the most unique "monster" I have seen i quite awhile.

I only regret is that I didn't have enough time to add adventure hooks or lore to the birds. Maybe I'll scribble out something to that end once the contest is over, just for posterity. If they win, that is/

I'm voting for the Widow's Weed for the best individual monster. All I can say is thanks for being my partner in this. It was so much better than I expected.

The Ramovita/Kettumere pairing was innovated. A faux tree creature that eats other creatures for their pungent odors sounds could have fallen into juvenile potty humor, but it didn't. In fact, they both hold up very well on their own. Well done!

Call it vanity if you want, but I still think my Champion of Krav deserves my vote.

The best PAIR, however, was a difficult one. A lot of very, very cool entries. I was considering voting for dawnwing/shadefeather, but I'm not honestly sure how much of that was really a team effort. So, I think I'll jump on the bandwagon and cast my pair vote for Widow's Weed/Soldier of Misfortune.

Mangles gets conceptual design credit for the idea(s). I just ended up writing the stats for both sides after he had to drop out of active competition.

Don't be silly. If it wasn't for your brilliant idea, any monster I statted out for this concept would've been a flop. I should be thanking you.

And it's time to tally the final votes...

The Best Pair can only be reward to LOTRfan and Debihuman's Widow’s Weed and Soldier of Misfortune!

The best single entry is then awarded to that disturber of the dead, the predatory Widow's Weed.

Congrats to the both of you. That was a fine hunt!
