My old videocard died and I got new one, but now Civ4 crashes often and Oblivion doesn’t work at all. The card should be powerful enough, so it must a compatibility issue. Can I fix this or should I get a different one?

My computer stats:
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core processor 5600+ ~2,8 Ghz
2046 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1266 MB

Thanks in advance!

You installed the latest driver for the graphics card?

Is the card properly pushed into the slot and do you have sufficient cooling on your system?

Are your motherboard drivers up to date as well?

Something else occurs to me: do you have SP1 for Vista installed? The released version of it had a problem whereby the graphics card memory got mapped twice into a process's address space, and with the amount of memory you've got on your graphics card, that could be causing big issues!
