View Full Version : [3.PF] Increasing the size of Monstrous Humanoids?

I'm working on making a Goliath Fighter 9 (so ECL 10) for a Pathfinder game, and I was wondering if there was any way to get an Enlarge Person like effect for a Monstrous Humanoid. No Psionics or other alternate magic systems, but most other things can probably get approved.

Wu Jen's Giant Size spell would work regardless of type, IIRC.

Hmm, while that would work, I'm not sure how I'd gain access to a reliable manner of using it.

The Half-Minotaur template would do it, if your cheese tolerance is high enough.

Mine? Certainly. My DM's? Definitely not.

I should probably mention that this guy considers Reserve Feats to be overpowered. And has a very wonky sense of what's actually good or not.

How on earth did you talk him into Goliath then?

If you dip a level of Barbarian, there is the Mountain Rage Goliath ACF - you grow to Large while Raging, but lose Powerful Build for the duration.

I said he had a very wonky sense of what's good.

And I'd like to be able to grow to Large and keep Powerful Build, if at all possible.

Belt of Growth, Magic Item Compendium, will do it once per day. It increases your size 'as if affected by enlarge person' - affected, not merely targeted.

Hmm, possible. Although that means I wouldn't be able to use a Belt of Giant Strength or a Belt of Physical Perfection.

Not without using MIC item stacking rules, at least, yeah.

That'll push it over the 15,500 GP limit he's imposing on individual item purchases, since it's kinda already over by 500 gp (which was hard enough to get him to let me do).

Put a further stat increase on Gauntlets of Ogre Power to tide you over, perhaps?

I'm not sure if he'd let me purchase Gauntlets of Ogre Power, since that was changed into a Belt of Giant Strength +2 in Pathfinder.

Phylactery of Change (11200 GP, A&EG) can give you all-day polymorph. Tattooed Monk can give you alter self a few times a day.

Unfortunately that also removes my Powerful Build feature, so that's no good.

If you can get access to an alter self ability or item, you can change into large monstrous humanoids, like a Blackscale Lizardfolk...I don't think you'll retain powerful build, though.

Yeah, Alter Self removes Powerful Build. So that doesn't exactly work, since I'm trying to be Large wielding a Huge weapon.

Well, short of Giant Size, psionics or Mountain Rage, I think you're out of luck.

You could check with the DM if he'd let a spellcaster research a variant of Enlarge Person that works for monstrous humanoids?

Well, I've sent him an email about the Belt of Growth, since that doesn't actually use Enlarge Person.

And he'd probably let the Wizard research something like that, but it'd take quite some time.
