Ok, so I read over the bard handbook, but for some reason it doesn't have spells? I need trickster/control spells for an 11th level bard, rapid xp gain. Here's the list I have so far

1st:
grease
hypnotism
hideous laughter
ventriloquism
animate rope
disquietude MoF p90
unseen servant
disguise self

2nd:
glitterdust
detect thoughts
tongues
enthrall
hold person
mindless rage
cloud of bewilderment
minor image
blindness/deafness

3rd
dispel magic
clairaudience/clairvoyance
see invisible
confusion
crushing despair
invisibility sphere
sculpt sound
aura of the unremarkable

4th
unluck
celebration
shout
insidious suggestion
Secure shelter
Shadow conjuration

Any other spells that would be useful, or any 5th and 6th level good spells? The interesting stuff seems to drop off rapidly after 3rd level.

Yes, this is a different bard from the one in my other thread.

Not sure what guide you are using, but the main Bard guide that is usually referenced, i.e. this one (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=8284.0) has a spell list in it.

Not sure I agree with all of those, but a lot of them will be valuable to you.

Huh. I must have found an old version. I looked at a couple of links, but I kept ending up here: http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19870498/The_Bards_Handbook

I just love Entice Gift from SC. It's so much fun seeing cleric hand you his holy symbol

Unluck can be fun, if you want to frustrate the DM. Puppeeter can be wastly overpowered or sucky to the the bottom and beyond.

Dominate Person is golden, if you ask me. Seeing your bard is CG, he may not be much for slaves, but it has immediate combat application as well.

Different bard. This is actually a PC for whom I am DM'ing who asked for help fixing up a lackluster character. Not sure she'd have a moral objection to slavery, but would get bored with the slaves too fast.

Sending one's peons to an untimely end is also a good use for the spell, after all.

Basically pick all the good low level wizard spells that he still uses at high level, especially those that the bard gets a level early. Take a look at some of the bard only spells too. So ya any google search for good spells should find it all. Like a wizard or cleric you can get scrolls and wands for the more situational low level spells.

Yeah, Puppeteer is one of my favorites. Its a bardic save or die. They are relatively few and far between.

what's the Spellcompendium update/equivalent of Bladesong (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20010126a)called again, Whirling Blade?

It's not as powerful as bladesong but is still rather nifty if one wants to hit things as a bard. Which makes it a bit niche, of course...

Yeah, Whirling Blade is awesome, but quite situational. When you manage to get that many enemies lined up in a straight line to make it worthwhile, its the bee's knees. Particularly if you've got a couple of huge bonus bard songs going - +6 to hit and damage and +6d6 fire damage... but its great in an eternal wand in your blade's wandchamber rather than as a spell known - just a bit too situational.

Check out this: A Treatise on Bard Spells (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19571982/A_Treatise_on_Bard_Spells&post_num=1#332684182). It is a little dated, but is a very detailed analysis of the Bard spell list. With a twist as it tends to focus on topics like unique Bard spells, and spells that Bards get at a lower class level than other classes. Anyone who is going to play a Bard should read it at least once.

Very nice, thanks! The focus is as much on creating an interesting character for a player that's not to into the game yet. Getting unique bard spells should help.
