View Full Version : Which Domains are Useable Under OGL?

Hey all:

I'm continuing work on a 3.5 inspired system, with a few major changes. One of those changes is a major shift in spellcasting: Spellcasters are no longer divided into arcane or divine. All casters gain access to Symbols (Domains) that determine which spells you gain access to (symbols also determine which rituals you can use -- more powerful rituals require multiple symbols to get off).

My question is, which domains can I use under OGL?

Also, would you say that, overall, domains are evenly split between arcane and divine spells?

Many thanks

Not sure about OGL, but this link to the SRD (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/resources/systems/pennpaper/dnd35/soveliorsage/divineDomains.html) will give you plenty that are SRD approved...

Its surprisingly few domains listed in the SRD -- fewer than are in the PHB, I think.

Just because it's in a web supplement does not mean it's OGL... unless Wizards released it under the OGL, it's still their copyrighted material. It's just more available.

That said, a list of domains from www.d20srd.org

And then there's stuff from 3rd party publishers, if you're inclined to use it. In those cases, you would need to check the OGL declaration of each product, but generally speaking mechanics are good and fluff (including proper names) is bad. That's just a generalization, however.

There's also the Mind Domain (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/spells/overview.htm#mindDomain).

Good catch. Was almost positive I missed one.

I'm suprised no one has said this:
One you write yourself (C)

Homebrew is not released under the Open Gaming License, unless the writer does it on purpose (I'm not sure why they would, though).

Homebrew always belongs to its author.

That, my friend, is why no one said it.
