Beyond the iron black door is a pair of spiral staircases. One is labeled "employer", the other "employee". A well-groomed halfling greets you and says, "Good sir, what will it be? Looking to place a job or find one?"

Niezck
2011-01-26, 06:41 PM
"Find one I think, yes, definiately."

Spelled my name wrong :smalltongue:

planswalker
2011-01-26, 07:03 PM
"Very well then. Follow me." He takes you up the stairs marked "employee" and opens the door. "Mind if I ask you a question?"

Niezck
2011-01-26, 07:05 PM
"Depends on the question."

planswalker
2011-01-26, 07:42 PM
"Why come here for work? Surely there are safer ways to earn your keep."

Niezck
2011-01-26, 07:44 PM
"If this is the work I think it is then the answer is simple - there is nothing more thrilling and ultimately satisfying than the chase, the capture and the execution of the one you seek."

planswalker
2011-01-26, 08:05 PM
The halfling smiles. "Ah, one of those crazies, then. Well, have fun up there. I'm sure there's someone as nutso as you. Have a pleasant time." He seemed genuinely cheerful.

The second floor is a labarynth of intersecting hallways with rooms along them. Each hallway is labeled with a descriptive name of the kind of jobs found within.

pick your favorite vague description of the kind of work you're looking for and we'll see what's along that hall.

Niezck
2011-01-26, 08:31 PM
Pre-planned assassinations eould be awesome if possible.

planswalker
2011-01-26, 08:41 PM
Along the rather short hallway labeled "Pre-Planned Assassination", there are eight doors, four on each side. Three of them have name plaques in front of them, indicating that there is employment to be found within.

Niezck
2011-01-26, 09:47 PM
Valore walks down the corridor, checking each door individually before returning to the first available one and slowly opening it.

planswalker
2011-01-26, 09:50 PM
The threee names are Johan Schmidt, Freidrich Tomkin, and Mark Gorburg.

You enter Johan's door. Inside, a voice from the ceiling says, "Name?"

Niezck
2011-01-26, 09:58 PM
"Unimportant. I either lie to you or tell you nothing at all, either way it is irrelevant. Who's the target?"

planswalker
2011-01-26, 10:01 PM
You hear her give a small laugh. "Very good. You're definitely in the right place. As to the target, I am a facilitator, not the client. IF I decide you are worthy, you will be given the location of the client and a slip opf paper proving you're approved by us, and you and he will work out the details. Now then, what do you do? Why should you be considered competent at this sort of job?"

Niezck
2011-01-26, 10:12 PM
"You give me a mark and I'll show you what I can do."

The elf takes the bow off of his back, swinging it in front of him as he runs his hand down the wood.

"This, this is foebane. Best bow you could want. Perfectly balanced, perfectly strung, can kill a an without him seeing or hearing anything. From far enough away that you'll never be caught. Especially if you mix in a bit of the old Purple Worm, if you catch my drift."

planswalker
2011-01-26, 10:45 PM
"You seem competent enough. Come on back." A panel of the far wall slides back and you can see the source of the voice on the other side behind a desk.

Niezck
2011-01-26, 10:52 PM
Replacing his bow, Valore keeps his hands hovered over his swords as he approaches the desk.

Ready an action to draw swords if they show hostile activity.

planswalker
2011-01-26, 10:57 PM
"Now then, Mr. Schmidt had one other question I am to ask you. What references can you give?"

Niezck
2011-01-26, 11:00 PM
"None in this forsaken city. Best that way though, nobody to recognize my work."

planswalker
2011-01-26, 11:05 PM
"The best answer."

She hands you a slip of paper with the address of your new employer. "The two of you will negotiate out the specifics."

Niezck
2011-01-26, 11:07 PM
Valore replies as he looks down at the paper, studying the writing on it carefully before stuffing it into his cloak pocket.

"And when my job is done? Should I return here, will I find more work or should my services be offered elsewhere?"

planswalker
2011-01-26, 11:14 PM
"Most employers will continue with their current employee if they find you competent. If not, then you may return here."

Niezck
2011-01-26, 11:15 PM
"Very well. Good day to you ma'am."

And with that Valore leaves, heading to the address he was given.

planswalker
2011-01-26, 11:22 PM
The estate of Johan Schmidt looks to be rather small and on the unkempt side. The lawn is rather undecorated, and the house in in minor disrepair.

Niezck
2011-01-26, 11:31 PM
Valore circles the house, checking for all windows, door and other forms of exit. He tries to remain silent in doing so, hopin to locate a way for him to sneak in while also retaining knowledge of the exits should something go awry.

[roll0] Move Silently

planswalker
2011-01-26, 11:34 PM
Unfortunately, a servant heard you sneaking around, and a man calls out from within. "State your business or get lost."

Niezck
2011-01-26, 11:43 PM
Feeling rather embarassed, Valore stands up straight and brushes himself down.

"I'm here for the job. And might I say, what a vigilant servant you have."

He approaches the front door as he shouts, deciding it best to treat this formally from now on.

planswalker
2011-01-26, 11:44 PM
"Snooping around your future boss's place is a bad way to start things off. Come in the house."

Niezck
2011-01-26, 11:52 PM
As Valore walks through the door, he outstretches his hand to Mr Schmidt, where ever he may be, and walks toward him.

"I make a point to always know my exists. The name's Valore, you are Mr Schmidt I assume?"

planswalker
2011-01-26, 11:58 PM
"Indeed so, and would appreciate it if you kept your paranoia for the job. Now then, here's the deal: I want city guards dead. You will get 500 gold per liver brought to me fresh from a city guard. If you ask any questions, you will not receive pay. And yes, I will know if the liver did not come from a city guard and you won't be paid for it. We have a deal?"

Niezck
2011-01-27, 12:00 AM
"Do I deliver them here and if so, in any particular manner? Is there some form of receptacle you wish me to use? And finally, do you have any particular preference of liver race-wise?"

planswalker
2011-01-27, 12:07 AM
"Yes here, discreetly if you can. Try to keep them as clean as possible. How you do that is up to you. Any race will work. If the race has more than one liver, you still get paid only 500 gold. I need them to me within 24 hours of them being killed. I'll charge you 50 gold in preparation fees if I have to remove the livers from the corpses myself and 100 gold if I have to dispose of the bodies."

Niezck
2011-01-27, 12:09 AM
"Any problems with toxins being in their bloodstream?"

planswalker
2011-01-27, 12:15 AM
"So long as their livers are still intact, toxins are fine. Anything else?"

Niezck
2011-01-27, 12:17 AM
"Just one last thing."

He takes the paper out of his cloak with Mr Schmidt's details on it.

"I'd like to burn this."

Valore waits to see the parchment burnt then turns and walks out of the door, looking around at the street outside for any immediate signs of guard - you never know how lucky you might be.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 12:19 AM
There are a pair of them patrolling a block away.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 12:30 AM
Spotting the guards, he attempts to casually walk toward them, except picking up the pace as he goes. Once he's about 60ft behind them he'll slow down and try to act innocent, trailing them as long as he can.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 12:36 AM
They ignore him, for now.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 12:40 AM
Valore keeps trailing them and maintains an eye out for any guards that may be patrolling on their own.

What time of day is it?

planswalker
2011-01-27, 12:45 AM
early afternoon

Not that you can tell.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 12:55 AM
Is this like last time where it's assumed we have "free" lodgings in the city?

Valore continues to follow them, noting what they're wearing, equipped with and their general level of awareness. Should they come to an entirely secluded area, he'll take action.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 01:22 AM
They come to one about 5 minutes later.

yes, but the free stuff is things like squatting or such. Encounters may happen if you do.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 01:49 AM
Running forwards, Valore draws his bow and nocks two sleeping arrows. Maintaining his distance at 30ft, he releases the arrows at the guards - one each.

Screw it, let's try the upfront approach :smalltongue:

Full-Attacking if possible, a sleep arrow each.

[roll0] Attack 1
[roll1] Crit 1
[roll2] Attack 2
[roll3] Crit 2
[roll4] Damage 1
[roll5] Crit 1
[roll6] Damage 2
[roll7] Crit 2

DC 11 will save or sleep for both of them if the arrows hit.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 02:06 AM
The arrow hits the first guard, and he's unconscious. The second guard is saved by his armor.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 02:08 AM
Just re-read it, turns out they don't actually deal damage anyway, so ignore that.

Initiative? [roll0]

Valore nocks another three arrows and prepares himself.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 02:22 AM
Luckily, you beat the guard's initiative. You go first.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 02:25 AM
The elf releases a volley of shots toward the guard, truly pushing his speed to the limit.

Using Rapid Shot to get 3 attacks.

[roll0] Attack 1
[roll1] Crit 1
[roll2] Damage 1
[roll3] Crit Damage 1

[roll4] Attack 2
[roll5] Crit 2
[roll6] Damage 2
[roll7] Crit Damage 2

[roll8] Attack 3
[roll9] Crit 3
[roll10] Damage 3
[roll11] Crit Damage 3

Using non-sleep arrows, tipped with Black Adder Venom (provided you're allowing me to have pre-prepared them). If so, it's DC 11 fort for 1d6 con then a further 1d6 a minute later.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 02:32 AM
Two of your arrows hit. He looks injured, but is still moving.

He whips out his longsword expertly and calls out "Desist this attack at once!" as he charges you.

His attack lands for [roll0]

luckily, he didn't confirm that crit.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 02:35 AM
Valore remains silent, knowing that should this go wrong and he have to flee, his voice would be yet another factor to identify him by.

He drops his bow to the ground and pulls out his swords, lunging wildly at the guard.

[roll0] Rapier 1
[roll1] Rapier Crit 1
[roll2] Rapier Damage 1
[roll3] Rapier Crit Damage 1

[roll4] Rapier 2
[roll5] Rapier Crit 2
[roll6] Rapier Damage 2
[roll7] Rapier Crit Damage 2

[roll8] Shortsword
[roll9] Shortsword Crit
[roll10] Shortsword Damage
[roll11] Shortsword Crit Damage

Let's hope this drops him, or immah have to run ...

planswalker
2011-01-27, 02:44 AM
You successfully manage drop him. He's still alive, but bleeding out.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 02:49 AM
Picking his bow back up, Valore stands above the body and fires a single arrow into the guard's neck. He then takes to the sleeping guard and does the same before searching them both and attempting to dismember them as fast as possible - always aware that anybody could appear and sabotage him.

Coup-De-Grace on both guardsmen.

Then gonna search the bodies/strip them of any valuable and attempt to cut out the liver with my rapier. Or at least cut a big enough hole in them to access their internal organs, then try to cut it out with the shorter, more handy shortsword or even an arrow head if it's easier.

Also, I'll try to retreive any arrows I can, especially the sleep arrow. (50% chance I think?)

And finally, gonna trip a potion of cure light wounds to heal - [roll0] HP.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 02:53 AM
50% chance with any arrow that missed. Roll the percentile separately.

that's a dc 10 heal check to take out their livers without severing them. possible to take 10 on this check when not rushed as you currently are.

[roll0]

whether the extraction is successful or not, no one notices you immediately in the time it takes to try for both men.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 02:57 AM
Is it possible to simply take a "chunk" of their organs out all together and put them in my bag, then have the guy extract the liver later? Less money is better than nom oney.

If that isn't possible:

[roll0] Check 1
[roll1] Check 2

Also, for the arrows - [roll2] - first is the sleep, second is the regular.

And finally, what equipment and stuff do I get from ransacking the guards?

planswalker
2011-01-27, 03:17 AM
it is, no heal check needed.

You cut off chunks of their torsos, taking a 50 gold hit.

Their armor had to be ripped off hastily to get to the organs in a timely manner, but was only non-masterwork armor. The two materwork short swords and masterwork heavy steel shields are recoverable though. They had a total of [roll0] gold on their persons.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 03:19 AM
Valore stuffs it all into his bag - all but the armour - and proceeds to take his rapier to the faces of the two guards, hopefully making them visually unrecognizable.

With this done he puts his swords, bow and haversack back and flees as fast as he can back toward Mr Schmidt's house.

Were those arrows recovered btw, I wasn't sure if it was 1-50 or 51-100 for the recovery?

Also, do I get any XP for that or is it done on a mission-type basis or something?

planswalker
2011-01-27, 03:25 AM
you get 250 xp and the arrows wre recovered

luckily for you, no one notices you.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 03:34 AM
The armoured elf walks casually to the door of the house and knocks three times.

planswalker
2011-01-27, 03:50 AM
You arrive, and are ushered inside. "Run into problems already?"

Niezck
2011-01-27, 03:58 AM
"Delivery time."

Valore takes the two chunks of organs and flesh out of his pack and slaps them down on the nearest surface.

"I figure less money is better than no money, so you can cut them out."

planswalker
2011-01-27, 04:30 AM
"Two so fast? I guess I'll put up with speed over quality. Have Gerard here count out your gold."

Gerard is an old dwarf butler who appeared seemingly out of nowhere and took you to the money table where your pay was counted out.

Niezck
2011-01-27, 04:31 AM
Valore takes his money and deposits it in his coinpurse in his bag. Returning to the front room, he smiles at Mr Schmidt.

"Do you know of anywhere I can acquire some magic items, Mr Schmidt?"

planswalker
2011-01-31, 03:22 PM
"There are merchants around near the Flint, from what I hear."

Riz is currently selling cheap items from a cart in the square. same as last game, just hasn't gotten his shop yet.

Niezck
2011-01-31, 03:25 PM
"Thank you very much. Good day and I'll be seeing you again soon."

Valore leaves the house and heads down to the Flint.

Rizban
2011-01-31, 03:41 PM
Posting here this time to expedite the process of dealing with my character.

You approach The Plaza. The Sad Flint is on one side. Directly across from it is Ezekiel's Supplies. There's a number of other shops and such around the edges. In the center are a few merchant carts gathered around the fountain. Most of the merchants appear to be trying desperately to pawn various goods off on every passerby. One stands out from the rest by simply leaning against his cart and waiting for customers to approach him. The sign on the cart reads, "Erbauer's Enchanted Devices and Dynamos."

Niezck
2011-01-31, 04:02 PM
Looking around at the merchants, Valore spots Erbauer's stall and approaches the man.

"So tell me, what interesting trinkets do you have for sale today?"

Rizban
2011-01-31, 04:11 PM
"Well, I have a few protective amulets on hand...
What are you looking to find? I can probably make it for you."

Niezck
2011-01-31, 04:17 PM
"Something to hide me from sight would be useful, although it largely depends on what your prices are like."

Rizban
2011-01-31, 04:39 PM
"They're cheap... usually."

You mean like a Hide skill booster?

Niezck
2011-01-31, 04:41 PM
Hide skill booster, invisibility item, anything really.

Rizban
2011-01-31, 04:47 PM
Let's start with a Hide skill booster, because I can't do invis items at the moment.

"Look, let's do this the easy way. You tell me what you can pay and what, if any, items you have to trade, and I'll tell you what I can do for you within that budget."

Niezck
2011-01-31, 04:56 PM
"I can offer you 500 gold pieces along with two masterwork short swords and two masterwork heavy steel shields."

Rizban
2011-01-31, 05:08 PM
"Err... I only accept magical good in trade. I'm not a common arms dealer.

For a mere 500gp, I don't think I could do you any better than a +3 item, probably a cloak. Even that is pushing it a bit."

Niezck
2011-02-04, 03:34 PM
"What about 1000gp?"

Rizban
2011-02-04, 07:17 PM
"For 1,000, I could do a +5."

Niezck
2011-02-05, 04:37 PM
"Anything of a more ... magical nature, for that price?"

Rizban
2011-02-05, 04:58 PM
"Any other merchant in the city would charge you about 2,500 for the same item. I think that's a very fair price.

If you're looking for something else, then tell me what it is you want."

Niezck
2011-02-06, 09:18 AM
"Hm, I'll come back later."

Are there any general blacksmiths nearby that I could sell the masterwork equipment to?

planswalker
2011-02-06, 05:10 PM
Indeed there are. Half-price.

Niezck
2011-02-25, 06:51 PM
Sorry about the delay.

Gonna sell the masterwork equipment I got from the guards for a total of 630gp (2 masterwork shortswords for 310 and 2 masterwork heavy steel shields for 320) bringing my total to ...

1603gp
80sp
50cp

Then gonna head over to the guard headquarters if I can. Gonna try to get a job methinks.

Rizban
2011-02-25, 10:02 PM
Market price for a mw steel shield is 170, not 320.

You get 310gp selling the two shortswords and 170gp selling the two shields, for a total of 480gp.

planswalker
2011-02-25, 11:03 PM
in order to prevent this whole thread from being in nothing but spoilers, please post your characters action IC, not in ooc spoilers.

also, welcome back! glad to see your internet troubles are better, if not over.

Niezck
2011-02-26, 07:07 AM
A single masterwork heavy steel shield sells for 160 presumably, so two of them would sell for 320. Similarly, I assumed a masterwork shortsword would sell for 155, so two would sell for 310.

Thanks Planswalker

Selling his equipment to the nearest vendor, the elven assassin heads toward the guard headquarters. Perhaps enlisting as a guard would allow him insight into their patrolling schedules and allow for better kills.

planswalker
2011-02-26, 07:10 AM
no, you are overestimating the cost of the masterwork component. For armor or a shield, it's only 150. try recaclulating your values again.

You approach the headquarters. The guard asks, "What business do you have here?"

Niezck
2011-02-26, 07:13 AM
Ah, right. Learn something new every day ^_^

"Looking to sign up my good sir. Are there any spots available?"

planswalker
2011-02-26, 12:01 PM
"You're kidding right? Every warm body we can get to sign up is welcome. Cme on inside."

He allows you to enter, if you so dare....

Niezck
2011-02-27, 04:01 PM
Valore looks up at the guard and smiles.

"Thank you, kind sir."

And with that he enters, looking for the place to sign up.

planswalker
2011-02-27, 04:21 PM
Inside are about a dozen watchmen milling about inside.

there is a man sitting behind a desk at the far end of the room.

Niezck
2011-02-27, 04:25 PM
Taking check of himself, Valore walks toward the man, keeping his eyes firmly fixed on the desk.

"Hello there my good man!"

Rizban
2011-02-27, 06:18 PM
The man behind the desk looks up from his paperwork and says, "What is it that you need, sir?"
