A group of four Sorcerers/Favored Souls is superior to the normal five-man band. I am aware Wizard and the Cleric are superior, but more casting removes the dead weight of the other three.

Note: this is assuming there is no ToB and probably Incarnum, and a Psion could replace the Sorcerer. This is also assuming the players are sane, and not doing stupid levels of cheese.

Also, it would probably require an additional Favored Soul/Psion to compensate if ToB is used, and even then, I'm not sure which would be.

Discuss. Any thoughts about, or flaws in my idea?

Well, it's true. Is this for a campaign you plan to run or something? I don't know what you need any help with.

Also,
I am aware Wizard and the Cleric are superior, but more casting removes the dead weight of the other three.I'm really not sure what you mean by this. Are you referring to them having more spells per day? If you are, a Focused Specialist Wizard is still superior to a Sorceror in that regard, winding up with the same number of spells/day in the end and actually having more of the highest levels he can cast during the entire course of his career (even at the levels where a Sorceror is 'caught up').

Well, it was sort of brought up at a gaming session, but this was supposed to be discussion about more Sorcerers/Favored souls>five man band, as a thought experiment of sorts.

The extra Sorcerers/Psions/Favored Souls makes up for the dead weight of the rogue, fighter, and fifth ranger. I am aware wizards are way better than Sorcerers, but the Fighter/Rogue/Fifth Ranger are so much worse that the Sorcerers that the Sorcerer party would come out ahead in power.

well lets see....

favored soul is basically a cleric with CHA, sorcerer is basically a wizard with CHA, an all-party of both would be able to cast all the cleric and wizard spells spontaneously rather than having to prepare them so the option of trying to assassinate them in the morning is out, every single one of them would be powerful than the normal power since you can always have an extra favored soul heal and others self-enhance themselves to great levels while sorcerers pull their own shenanigans.

so I could see a sorcerer taking mostly illusions spells acting as the rogue, one sorcerer acting as some kind of other "wizard" one favored soul being the fighter, one being the healer cleric and one being the bard, and all of them better at these roles in ways the actual classes fail, in fact all of them would be a good party face, such a group could persuade the NPCs around them to do anything they want.

but then again I'm not an expert, this is just observation from what I know and from hearing what wizards and clerics can do from other people.

A group of favoured souls and sorcerers would definitely be better lookin' than the average adventuring group.

You could call 'em "The Pretty Brigade".

Some. They do have limited spells/day, so no Schrodingering or CoDzilla'ing while being able to cast much.

That's why I was suggesting it. Protip: Healbots suck. One would be Fighter with healing and one is Cleric magic ownage.

I was personally thinking "The Bishy Brigade," but whatever works.

They could use summons to handle frontline, or any of them could build for it (sorcadins/sorcblades woo!), and same for most other stuff.

Oh, and no Favoured Soul or Sorcerer is going to make better bard than bard, because bards are awesome. In fact, I'd replace one of the quartet with a bard.

Actually, all of them could be replaced with bards, and it would still be stronger ensemble than the "traditional" party.

Words of Creation+Pyroclastic Dragonfire Inspiration Or action economy abuse? Or both?

Either way, with splats, Bard>>>Rogue.

Words of Creation+Pyroclastic Dragonfire Inspiration Or action economy abuse? Or both?Four bards, just have it all!

Either way, with splats, Bard>>>Rogue.I'd almost claim that to be the case even in core-only.

[Edit]: Of course, a group of draconic bards would be known as Dragonforce.
