View Full Version : Fluff for shonen-style martial arts

OK, I'm redesigning from scratch a system designed to portray truthfully shonen manga such as Yu Yu Hakusho, Saint Seiya, Hunter x Hunter, Hokuto no Ken and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
I also want the game's setting to have it's own unique flavor (it's a legacy setting, from a campaign done more than 10 years ago, based on a relatively well-known homebrewed setting/system - Karyu Densetsu/Thrash 1.8).
So, what I want the playground to help me with: specific flavor for this setting's martial arts. I'm thinking of using the chakras (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra) as a basis; each character would have to spend points to "open" each chakra, and each chakra would have techniques aligned with it.
The fluff is basically as follows - every being is composed of spirit and flesh, and chakras 'glue' spirit and flesh together. "Opening" a chakra allows you to use your spirit's power.

So, any thoughts on how I should improve this? Suggestions of an alternate fluff are also welcome.
