Theres a pic thats quite popular on GitP of a female bard necromancer type who appears to use her bow as a sword (someones has made an avatar of it).

Bards in general would be good.
Otto's irresistible dance
Magic pipes/other musical magic items.
Perhaps watch the buffy musical episode 'Once more with feeling' for some inspiration

Ok, for one, they should be a performing troupe. They may either be a legit group, one that has been put together for a mission into a place under the guise of performers, or are forced together and find together they rock.

Perhaps evil is in the dark, which is said to only be driven out by loud noise. The musicians have come together to combat it once and for all.

I have two Races devoted to song:
Okilei (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175283)
Trleetrlaa (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134937)

Prestige Classes
Ohrwurm (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175670)

Storyhost (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27651)
Zann Prodigy (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114171)

Singing Beasts

Lamentisk (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85306)
Pureborn Beast (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10879)

Even a Template

Would also suggest taking a look at the ♫ Sing Along ♫ (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4631188#post4631188) monster competition I hosted some time back.

Theres a pic thats quite popular on GitP planet Earth of a female bard necromancer type who appears to use her bow as a sword (someones has made an avatar of it).

Just a small correction, but an important one nonetheless.

Anyway, this seems like a pretty awesome roleplaying challenge. For added hilarity, don't change the mechanics of the game at all, just let everyone do what they would normally do, but require singing with every action.

You probably mean this (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=bride+of+Lucifer#/d6oypn) image.

Another obvious source of inspiration would be this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHGTFkYgbB0).

In general: you can refluff mass buffs to include synchronous dancing or singing with the buffer as the solo leader of the performance. You can tweak the rules a bit to actually include dance (http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F127.jpg)-fighting (http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F128.jpg). You could also whip up a form of Cirlce Magic, that would work on Bardic Music (combined efforts of a few bards would yeld greater effects).

Different factions (countries/tribes/whatever) could be based around different music genres (this whas actually done before with differnt types of metal).

Aww man. You Missed the point! There would be ACTUAL singing in the campaign!

Such as:

Hero: Why Are you doing! this

Baddie: So you want to know?

Light turns off. Stoptlight. Villain is wearing Skull top hat And a Spine cane:

La La La Song Whilst Villains prance around in an over the top scene whilst reality warps...

I just got an Idea!

An ancient artifact gives powers of Gods to anybody who can wield it and sing (Music video logic)!

Have the players come up with short songs that describe the characters they're about to play. Then ask them to perform those, plan it out beforehand, if for example someone wants to go with the Disgustian Memphis Ninja (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=409908), so that you have the musical background at hand. It will either go down in flames right then and there or become one of the greatest games of all time.

Plus, it's one hell of a way to introduce the idea.

The idea for this sounds awesome! If I ever got a RL group that I thought would be down for that, I'd run a game like this in a heartbeat. Consider this idea stolen for possible future use. It doesn't hurt I have a decent bass villain voice already well-practiced. Hell, even someone who couldn't sing a lick could get by on use of recitative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recitative).

Perhaps include a "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"-style puzzle/event where players must speak in only song titles.

Have you seen the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where a demon compels everyone to start singing? Well there's an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where a demon compels everyone to start singing. It sounds like just the inspiration you're looking for.

Cliff notes: All the characters are forced to reveal their darkest secrets through happy little melodies. And then it makes people dance till they spontaneously combust.

The cosmology could be rewritten to support this; instead of the Weave, there is the Rhythm, and Plane Shift lets you reach the Elemusical Planes and the Paraelemusical Planes.

Thus we have the Plane of Rock, the Plane of Jazz, the Plane of Techno and so forth. The planar fate of dead mortals becomes subjective; you get sent to a plane you like if you're Good, and to one you dislike if you're Evil.

And now I've got an image of the Blood War as a rap battle, or maybe dueling Celtic violins. Add riverdancing hellspawn to taste.

And now I've got an image of the Blood War as a rap battle...

Oooh! Use something like the East Coast vs West Coast rap feud of the 90s instead of the Blood War.

The only thing I have to say sing is:

"Don't you know, you never split the party" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waa2ucfgVgQ)

Pcs:

Hey why are we all wearing Dresses? And whos this guy?

"It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark"

Oh S***.

"Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart"

So Yeah this is one of my planned Ideas.

But yeah. The world is not made of music. Its just that since the god of music died 10,000 (Well technically 8,897) years ago. Everybody has been spontaneously dancing. Whilst dancing they receive a piece of the gods power to change reality.

There are several novels where magic=music. One very odd one had the idea that reality could be modified by classical music. The idea being that the sympathetic vibrations of a full orchestral piece could in fact modify reality at the level of string theory.

Interesting idea, not actually that well written of a book as I got bored before I reached the end of it. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

Anycase, to be inspired for the kind of campaign you seem to want to do, I recommend renting some old musicals, like Brigadoon, Court Jester, Inspector General, etc. Modern people need a bit of encouragment to do the whole 'burst into song at a drop of a hat' usually. It may take a bit to get people into the mindset.

So you're going for a fantasy musical? This soo needs Tim Curry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvUbbYX9BMs).

I might add, that you'd find much more material (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQatWLEIJrA) for a seafaring (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llR8NafXp8k) campaign (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvDGPF3d4aA) (the last one would make a good song for a hoard of undead or sumesuch).

Unless you don't go for a specific musical theme, then just remember to make it camp enough, that anything and everything would fit. Choice examples would include Labirynth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViftZTfRSt8) and Rocky Horror Picture Show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aizCMO-mI1Q).

Trouble is, either everything needs to be pre-scripeted, or your players (and you) need to be utter improv gods.

There was a short-lived PbP campaign on Planewalker called Planescape! The Musical!

Amongst other things, one could by feats like "Background Dancer", which forced all present NPCs to dance whenever you sang a song and "Character Theme", which allowed you to sing a song specific to your character (with variations) to achieve an effect. My character's song was about freedom, so singing it allowed him to escape from prison once.

Nah. I realized that this seemed like a PERFECT idea for a musical but not for a campain....So I started writing one!

Divati Race is music based. Its like the wondertwins..

One character needs to be an anthropomorphic shark though.
