In this comics http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0367.html Thog says he is to pretty for jail; my question, that being true who can go to jail?

Characters with lower charisma, obviously. :smalltongue:

Yeah, I'd say Thog had at least 16 Charisma. How else could he be so lovable?

Apparently everyone.

The problem is who can't get OUT of jail (besides The high level rogue apparently)

Dude, thog is a FOX!

What can I say? I have a thing for guys/gals who can pound me flat if so inclined. Also for those with tusks.

That ... would be kinda awesome, actually. Who says all three of his mental stats have to be crappy? And he does make friends with everyone (that he's not in the process of killing).

Since you are apparently a bug living on the bottom of a well, that would be most guys? :)

Don't get too excited there, Mr. Weiqi Board! That fine young specimen has deemed Thog as attrative; truly, no finer pairing has graced these forums. :smalltongue:

Clearly we've never met, so allow me to introduce myself. My enemies call me Agnerak va Ishmar. It translates roughly to Devourer of Worlds, but you can call me by my other name: Golentan, or Golly for short.

Yeah. I mean, look at the evidence: Thog's Bluff is through the roof (Not Nale. Not-Nale. Thog help nail Not-Nale? By the time Thog finished, that poor guard didn't know what was true anymore), and frankly, is one of the most likable characters in the strip, despite having been shown to murder and keep humans as pets. He acts more like Elan than anyone else too, and Élan is shown to be the pinnacle of Low-Wisdom/Intelligence, High-Charisma.

I don't think Bluff applies; Thog was being entirely truthful in that speech. He wasn't trying to confuse the warden, it just worked out that way for the lulz. But everything else makes sense.

Edit: For a half-orc, he's not as ugly (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0339.html) as he could be, either.

You're accepting as credible a theory that came out of Thog's mouth.

(This is absolutely the first time I've been able to make a quotation relevant by substituting the name Thog for the name Miko (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0406.html).)

Yes...I've been looking through the archives and I haven't found a single instance of Thog lying. In fact, I'm not sure I've found any evidence of him even knowing what lying is. So he could very well believe he is telling the truth that he is too pretty for jail. And given that they actually know about Charisma scores in OotS....its possible.

First of all, what does lying have to do with it? You're trusting his analysis skills.

Secondly, "Thog alone (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0051.html)", while technically not a lie, was definitely an evasion of the question, to give a false impression.

"Thog crush talky-man (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0064.html)" turns out to be false.

And this is not really a puppy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0142.html).

So the mere fact that Thog says it does not make it true.

Perhaps, ... perhaps Thog is too pretty for a half-orc jail. But there is no justification for us to trust his thought process when analyzing a situation he's never been in before.

Firstly, attractiveness and charisma, while correlated, are two different attributes. An elder dragon is not more attractive to a human than another (even average) human, it is simply far more persuasive.

Secondly, I just noticed that thog seems surprisingly intelligent for a half-orc. When was the last time Elan used a quartosyllabic [sixth panel] (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0064.html) word?

Actually, he used a quartosyllabic word by the second panel.

When people talk about being "too pretty for jail", it's a reference to how, with no female companionship, prisoners will force themselves on other prisoners. The joke is Thog's overestimation of his own looks, possibly his lack of faith in being the strongest one in prison anyways, and that a childlike simpleton knows about prison-rape. (Or he may not. He has savant tendencies, but he may have just heard references and built up a different scenario in his head)

Yeah!

We know two (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0555.html) other (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0609.html) half-orcs in OotS, and they're hardly retarded.

Thank you. Thog is stupid because he's stupid, and because he was entirely-stereotypical fighter to annoy Roy in that first appearance.

Presumably, this guy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0173.html) too. (I'm assuming he's half- rather than full-blooded orc since all the confirmed orcs we've seen -the island tribe, and the tribe from OtOoPCs- tend to talk ungrammatically in bold lettering. Contrary to Bibliomancer's claim, half-orcs seem to have normal intelligence in OotS, with Thog being distinctly below-par.)

"Consensual (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0771.html)", three strips ago. :smallwink:

In #771, sixth panel (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0771.html) -- the last time he had more than three word balloons.

Before that, the last time was #767, panel three (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0767.html).

And in #762, last panel (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0762.html).

Frankly, four syllables aren't that impressive.
