When A character charges with a lance, it states the lance does double damage. What exactly is included in this. I am assuming that :

+1 lance wielded by a character on a mount with 18 STR becomes

2d8(damage die) + 8 (STR mod) + 2 (enhancement bonus).

is this correct?

Only if you are wielding it in two hands and mounted.

Everything!

That is to say, the base weapon damage and all non-variable (+XdY) bonuses to it.

Only on horseback is your damage doubled. Two hands not assumed nor required (can do it one-handed on a horse and have a shield in the other hand for example) but then your STR bonus to damage goes down.

Also, it's not 2d8+8 for a wielder with 18 strength. It's 2*(1d8+8).You don't double the number of variable dice, you just double the result of the die.

Wrong. Even if we interpret it your way, it's 2*(1d8+4) for two-handing a lance with 16 str.

He was getting a +4 from strength on a 16 Str character, so I answered that his math was correct if he was wielding it two handed.

Actually, you are supposed to roll twice.

Multiplying Damage
Sometimes you multiply damage by some factor, such as on a critical hit. Roll the damage (with all modifiers) multiple times and total the results. Note: When you multiply damage more than once, each multiplier works off the original, unmultiplied damage.

Even if it worked like you said, it'd be 2*(1d8+4), not 2*(1d8+8) for Str 18.

[Edit]: Gah, swordsages! Dualwielding lances!

Barbarians with Oversized TWF, can Dualwield lances and actually attack with both of them on a charge thanks to Pounce.

I apologize for my fluke i meant to list the STR as 18 (+4 bonus for one handed)
