They would be Earl Lloyd for FO, Clovis for FU, Rivals for TO, Tamaki for OU, Jeremiah Gottwald for Manly Baddass, and I cannot disagree, then Diethard and Odysseus for Manly useless.

Blue-hair is Rivalz, the guy who is pretty much Lelouch's self-proclaimed best friend in school.

Top-middle is Lloyd (the scientist in charge of Suzaku's experimental Lancelot Knightmare Frame).

Top and Bottom "Useless" characters are two of Lelouch's half-brothers, the bottom one being the heir to the Britannian Empire.

Bottom Left is Jeremiah Gottwald, AKA Orange-kun. He earned his badass stripes in the somewhat-maligned season 2, where he became RIDICULOUSLY LOYAL to Lelouch.

"Ordinary Useless" is Tamaki, who is essentially the counterpart to Rivalz for Lelouch's alter-ego Zero.

The Manly Ordinary is Diethard, a media guru who joins Zero's crew in season 1. His loyalty is to the most entertaining side.

I have no idea who Ordinary Useless is, and I've actually watched the show.

He was part of Lelouch's Black Knights, Kaname Ohgi. He was basically minion-mode till season 2, when he found Villetta Nu and rode her gravy train out of obscurity.

Yeah, nevermind, I'm plainly misreading descriptions now and there are better references above.

Or maybe he, *GASP*, actually wants to PLAY THE GAME!! :smalltongue:

I have the same reaction when my players spend HOURS planning. Don't get me wrong, I support that behavior and let them do it, but after a while it gets damn boring on my side. These days I time my games to end on planning periods, and tell them to take care of that over the week before the next session. It doesn't stop them from spending 2 hours in planning at the beginning of next session, but that's a step up from the 5 hours it was taking before.

Spell Compendium. Combust is notable as being the damage source in one of The Mailman's best damage tricks, the Surge of Fortune Shuffle. It's spoilered below for you:
The Surge of Fortune Shuffle: This is a low Epic (level 21+) two round maneuver that deals 810 fire over two hits at the cost of a 9th and 7th level spell, plus some change and XP. On round one, cast Greater Arcane Fusion for Limited Wish -> Surge of Fortune and True Strike. If Spellsurge is already up, also cast Arcane Fusion for Assay SR and True Casting. If not, use another GAF to pump it out with an Assay. Use your move action to Hide in Plain Sight if you're capable. On round two, use your standard to cast Enhanced Twinned Maximized Empowered Combust as a 9th level spell. Use your move action to tumble next to the enemy. Then, use your swift action to activate Surge of Fortune, and finally, make the touch attack (which you can make at any point in the round after casting a touch spell).
It will auto-crit threat due to the Surge, get a +20 to hit on the crit confirmation melee touch attack, and have an SR check of 1d20+50 or so if you took the Marshal level. The 810 or so critted fire damage comes over two hits, meaning even Fire Resist 30 is pretty overwhelmed. If the enemy is immune to fire, you can use a Metamagic Rod of Substitution or just a Shocking Grasp (less damage) instead. The SR check is enough to get by a lot of Epic critters and some gods, and your melee touch crit confirmation roll with True Strike ought to be 1d20+30 touch at least, which again, is enough for most Epic critters and some gods. If you either screw up, or the thing for some ungodly reason isn't dead, cast Celerity immediately after your turn and dimension hop your butt away or put up a Force Wall or something. This could be adapted to lower levels with less metamagic, but its main value is the high damage/spell slot ratio and the shock value of so much damage, so it's less applicable.

I'd think we could squeeze in Searing Spell if we're going to use this at all often, so we ignore Fire Resistance, do more to Cold Vulnerable and half to Fire Immune, as some things have annoying resistance to EVERYTHING that makes Substituting impractical/not useful.:smallannoyed:

The Mailman is so feat-starved, I don't think you actually can. Just don't use the Surge of Fortune Shuffle against that stuff.

Of course, there might be a way to shoehorn in one random feat then Dark Shuffling it into Searing Spell, which obviously is fine, cause this is epic we're talking about now.

What's the source of the psychic warrior one? Is that the Emperor from Warhammer 40k on the Gold Throne? It is the first time I see that picture and I was wondering where you took it from.

Near as I can tell, they're quotes from characters that tend to fit either the look of the picture (or are from the thing depicted in the picture...) or the actual type of lich itself... Voldemort (Harry Potter, Warlock), Arthas (Warcraft, Paladin), The Witch King (Lord of the Rings, Ranger), Xykon (Order of the Stick, which, by the way, is a REALLY cool painting of him...Right. The sorcerer), and so on.

Then again, I presume the state of their beloved "God" isn't widely known.

Actually, no. The Choir of the Astronomicon is the navigational beacon, and that's a few thousand psykers all broadcasting in unison (and burning themselves out in the process).

The emperor has become a warp-entity. He is fed psychic energy by the throne, he steers events and empowers champions as best he can, and he empowers the Imperium's Astropaths (basicly gives them the "interstellar range telepath" prestige class).

There are many stories new and old over what else he might be capable of or what might be wrong with him, but those basics are true.

Okay, so my spleenin' to do;

The Liches as such are:

Artificer is Lorenz Keel from Neon Genesis Evangelion, though what I had in mind was him as The Elder of Days from Children of an Elder God.

Bard is Mok "the Magic Man" Swagger, a monstrously underrated villain from the cult classic, Rock and Rule. True to form, he is a satanic, possibly undead form of Mick Jagger.

Cleric is indeed Rasputin from Hellboy, prophet of the Ogdru Jahad the Seven Dragon Gods of Chaos. Try as you might, you just can't keep him down because this one has an actual phylactery i.e. an acorn where Baba Yaga keeps half of his soul.

The Dread Necromancer is The Lich King from Adventure Time, and he hasn't really made much of an impact yet what with all of his five seconds of screentime. But he was one of the six original characters for the show in production, is guaranteed a place in the next season, and, well, he isn't funny. (http://adventuretimewithfinnandjake.wikia.com/wiki/File:Lich_king.jpg)

I'm surprised someone got the Druid Blackwolf from Wizards. Speaking from a gamer perspective, Blackwolf would be a Blight Druid and his phylactery would be his old Nazi Propaganda Film Projector. I got druid mostly out of the magic and the shapechanging you see in his prologue.

The Paladin lich is of course Arthas (and Frostmourne) from WoW. No introductions needed.

The Psion Lich is Akira from... well, Akira. Storing his essence in jars of his own organs, he was still able to reform his body decades later and use psychic powers the likes of which would never be seen again. Akira wasn't much of a talker, though, so I just got lazy and used the next best thing; one of Tetsuo(TETSUOOOOOO!)'s quotes.

The Psychic Warrior is the Emperor from Warhammer 40k, you use what you've got, blah blah blah, picture sauce here (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=warhammer+emperor#/d1vslpl).

I got desperate with the Ranger and used the good ol' Witch King of Angmar (movie version). He was close enough, what with the spells, and the dual wielding, and the big Fell Beast animal companion, and the ring phylactery hyben glaven schmalwitz!

Sun Hai got to be the Shugenja even though he should be a Wu Jen, but my general reasoning was:
Jade Empire Magic = Elemental Magic
Shugenja Magic = Elemental Magic
If A = C and B = C, logically A = B. And you would not believe what a pain in the ass it was to find quotes and pictures for this guy.

Xykon, like Arthas, doesn't need any introductions, though I am ticked that I had to cut his quote so severely short. The pic is actually from this here Russian blog (http://www.diary.ru/~skiorh/p52450612.htm).

Voldey got to be the Warlock on account of much spell-blastiness and Avada Kedavra goodness, as well as needing to be something inherently magical. I actually considered him for the Artificer Lich for his propensity with magical items (Seven. Damn. Phylacteries.) and wands. Cheap, ain't I?

Horned King is the Wizard because, first and foremost, he's another heinously underrated villain (seriously, a Disney lich?!), and as you've probably guessed by now, I needed someone to fill the slot. Ah, Black Cauldron, you had so much promise. Disney reaching out to the D&D crowd via book mutilation. What could have been...

And finally, Lo Pan is the Wu Jen as the classic Oriental trope of Evil Sorcerer (seriously, watch more Chinese cinema kids), and because Big Trouble in Little China needs more love.

You also forgot Beguiler, Wilder, Favoured Soul, Ardent, Divine Mind, Lurk and Archivist btw. :smallwink:

True, but the original Horned King wasn't much of a mage. He was really more of a warrior, and was more of Dragon on his particular villain hierarchy. And I still say the animated Horned King has his merits. By which I mean he and the actual Black Cauldron are the only reason I endure that movie.

You obviously haven't heard of Dragonfire Inspiration, then. That's how you stack multiple bards together. Xd6 elemental damage per Bard, each Bard contributing a different kind of elemental damage - oh, but you do have one singing plain old Inspire Courage.

The thing is you're using photobucket, it provides a formatted img tag version of your link. look to the left of the picture, there is a box called "share this photo." in there is a section called 'IMG code' and if you copy and paste that text inside that section, you should be fine.

Monstrous Australian spiders have Web as an (Ex) ability at will, and poison that does 2d6 Con, and another 2d6 a minute later, with a DC 20 Fortitude save to negate. The also have a demoralizing aura as the spell Crushing Despair, with a DC 22 Will save to negate. All other spiders withing 60ft of the Australian Monstrous Spider receive a +2 competency bonus on skills, attacks, AC, and initiative.
This specific spider has a summon vermin spell (spider only), which summons no fewer than 3d6 Large Monstrous spiders, 3d8 Medium Monstrous spiders, and 2d10 Small monstrous spiders.

D&D is like that, actually- penalty for being in darkness: Reduced movement, have to try using sound/scent/random guessing to find things, opponents strike you as if invisible. Penalty for being on fire: 1d6 damage a round, which means most lower-mid level characters can pretty comfortably survive being on fire for as much as a minute.

David Boreanaz. He's a real life actor. Though based on the fact that he's on fire I'm going to say it's his role of Angel from Buffy:The Vampire Slayer/Angel.

This picture is awesome. I don't know what the reference is, but it makes me want to run a game of some sort in the days of the Roman Empire. In fact, I may do that.

Not sure where the picture's from, but it is referencing Asterix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix), a french comic series and a large contributor to why I took french classes in high school (I wanted to read my mom's comics). Comic tends to be MUCH more silly than that picture makes it out to be (Cacophonix the bard, for example, if you noticed the name similarity to cacophony, you get a cookie).

Cacophonix? We're really using him as the guideline for silly names? What about Getafix, the druid? Or Vitalstatistix, the chief? Or any of the dozens of secondary characters that show up throughout the series? :smalltongue:

Also, I love Asterix and Obelix. I've got a stack of them on my shelf, and I reread them from time to time. The english translation was actually quite good.

Where is that entourage picture from, with all the people in black?

Tam_OConnor
2011-02-25, 01:47 AM
Noedig: Sanguine is right; it's Boreanaz, as Angel. Ah, that manly caveman brow...

Greenskin, Burnheart: I hate to say it, but I don't know. They're not mine, so I can't check out the original, either. The entourage picture vaguely resembles Pathfinder art, but that's more a feeling than anything.

Penance for ignorance: Another Asterix character, the druid Getafix, brewer of a potion that grants superhuman strength (among others): http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/5966/druidve.jpg
Just to give y'all a few more punny names: Fullautomatix, the village smith. Unhygenix, the local fishmonger. Geriatrix, the village elder. I really can't recommend the series highly enough. I've got a gender-flipped version of the pair somewhere as well, but it's not a motivator... yet.

Int in the 30's, bare minimum... Beyond that... Factotum? Rogue? With Fortune's Friend? Maybe some Assassin for good measure... Skip it, let's just use Olidamarra's stat block from Deities and Demigods. It'll be underpowered, but it'll do.

Kuma Kode

The problem is that discussing them in the context of the game would still require judgment calls and can spark real-world debate. For instance, trying to situate Obama in the alignment chart would require judging him and his actions, even if it's not openly debated. If you place him as Lawful Evil there will certainly be others who will think he's Chaotic Good, and vice versa.

Like one of the moderators (I think Roland) once said... if there's any hesitation or concern that it could be violating the rules, don't do it.

It's seriously not going to be that funny, anyway. Not worth the trouble it would be.

Vknight
2011-02-25, 10:49 PM
Good point. And also you never discuss politics or the politicians until it is 20-30years after it as my rule.

So yeah also I'm coming to realize it's not that awesome of an idea. I'd give the reason for why I thought it was a good idea at the time but that is for me to know and you to question the legality of it.

I read through over a hundred pages to find the best posters and repost them here. I may not post often, but when I do, I DO.

I cannot tell if those 'Star Wars' ones are complimentry or insulting.

I don't think either? They're just commentary on the variation of mood throughout the setting, from the the savvy travelers to the super-powerful Sith.

Ah now that makes sense.
In my only 'Star Wars Saga' experience it was amzingly awesome and bizzare.

Nor are Twilight vampires glowy, or shiny; they're sparkly. Shiny is the middleground that I picked because "Light-Emitting" didn't have the right ring to it.

It may be inadequate, but we can still try and the San checks may start but in the end something will be born a creature from that abyss.

The tiger one's come up before, with the full comic page (or at least more of it). Can't remember where it was from, though. Do a search for "tiger" or "rakshasa" in these threads and you'll probably find it.
Someone needs to make image 17 into a motivator. Something along the lines of "wizard vs soulmelder"...
Don't those look like faces to you? They do, and it wasn't quite what you were thinking of but I made a something for it:http://images.cheezburger.com/completestore/2011/2/25/20a493cc-b482-4923-b6ab-ef85c6e5e6ed.jpg
Well we wouldn't do current people stuff like, 'Sir Winston Churchill' who would have been 'Awesome Good' or something like that he was awesome, and crazy the perfect player character.Your harmless example already has room for argument. Yeah, it's a bad idea.
There's plenty around, though, if you wanna look for your own gratification...

aaaah, orange and blue morality..... I love making characters like that, if I don't specifically make them a hero, they are probably orange and blue.
