Tired sorry combined with allergy medications and other things grammer checks will continue to fail for most part.
I won't read the Hobbes because the saddness of it will be just so cute and combine that with this and all start laughing like a madman.

Any chance for a link, to more about the daughter? All I found in my search was a few other bits of unrelated fanart and a rather depressing comic about the death of Hobbes.

I think Yotsuba would rather make a fine factotum.

SilverLeaf167
2011-02-26, 09:15 AM
I guess so, but almost EVERY SINGLE non-fantasy popular culture character is called a Factotum and it's not really funny anymore.

Eldan
2011-02-26, 09:17 AM
That's really just because Factotum can be used to describe basically everything.

SilverLeaf167
2011-02-26, 09:19 AM
Or because people misunderstand the skill system to mean you would absolutely suck at anything you don't have ranks in.

Eldan
2011-02-26, 09:20 AM
Or that.

But basically it's just:
-Most main characters are at least a bit smart
--Factotum focuses on intelligent
-Most main characters have a few signature tricks
--Factotum can probably do that trick, while other classes perhaps can't.

If you know any three things your character can do, Factotum can probably do all those three things well. It also doesn't have too many overly magical abilities, which is an advantage with modern characters.

But interestingly only the two which I copied the adress from and pasted into the adress bar manually. The others are still not there.
Klicking at the links you posted later, it works for those two images, the other links give a "forbidden".

Good point. And also you never discuss politics or the politicians until it is 20-30years after it as my rule.

Funny story....I started a thread on whether Genghis Khan was LN or LE. There was a fair deal of discussion, but it was eventually locked because 'politics'. So for the purposes of this site, you might want to slap an order of magnitude or two onto that number.

But I digress.

Currently, I'm pretty much happy if people don't misspell it as "Kreig".

And all the Germans in this thread collectively facepalm because of the language.

Also the Swiss, Austrians, some Dutch and anyone who took any German classes.

Das Krieges Todkorps would be an acceptable (albeit still horribly grammatically tortured) substitute, but "Death Korps of Krieg" is... not.

Yora
2011-02-27, 01:33 PM
It's still a Death Korps. Corps is french and written wit C.

Todescrops des Kriegs would be more elegant.

Eldan
2011-02-27, 01:34 PM
Todeskorps des Krieges, actually.

But that would be "Death Corps of War". Here, it's a place name, so "Todeskorps von Krieg", or "Krieger Todeskorps" would be better.

Edit: I'm no expert here, but I'm reasonably sure I've seen Germans spell Korps with a K before.

Currently, I'm pretty much happy if people don't misspell it as "Kreig".

It's not that hard to remember if you know how it is pronounced. No one pronounces "ei" (eye) the same as "ie" (ee), after all.

It's still a horible mangling of the German language.

It's not a beautiful language, but we like to keep it tidy.

German is a beautiful language. Confusing, difficult and horribly complex, but still beautiful. Especially when spoken by a beautiful woman. :smalltongue:

I've never thought of German as an elegant language when spoken, but dammit it makes me feel home. (Or well, close to home. Even when I'm really not.)

That and every movie character I've seen speak German automatically becomes more sophisticated in my eyes than those speaking posh British.

EDIT:

Meh. I prefer English, really. It's much better at making things sound dramatic.

With the use of words, yes. English just has that grand vocabulary that makes a lot of things work. When spoken aloud though, English requires more effort to make it also sound dramatic in how it is said rather than just what is said. Large Hams not included. (It'd be unfair to have a German face BRIAN BLESSED for instance.)

Not sure on that one. I mean, I know English speaking people claim that German sounds harsh and so on, but to me, most spoken German sounds too soft to be really dramatic.

On the language thing.

As a native English speaker that took German in college, I can say with great certainty that it sounds harsh, if only because it's a very throaty (and somewhat guttural) language.

Two people trying to be romantic in German sounds kind of silly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riXYKhKPQLU).

Eldan
2011-02-27, 02:23 PM
That's mostly because in many dialects (certainly Swiss ones) the word "Liebe" - Love is not really used traditionally or doesn't even exist outside of being a loanword. So, just directly translating "romantic" things sounds really silly. Especially if the translation doesn't even fit the metrum anymore.

Off-topic: I like this "sketch". German Songmaker singing the same love song in a dozen languages. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOb0bErcDyg There should be a much longer version somewhere ,but I can't find it. Ancient Greek is awesome.

They're from an artist on danbooru(or at least, that's where I got those pics) called matataku. Just google "danbooru matataku" and it'll be the first site to pop up(word of warning, danbooru tends to have NSFW ads). He does some very attractive older men, some slightly odd stuff, and the occasional d'awww piece of work too, usually involving cats. I'm actually planning on putting his stuff, along with some other hunky daddies and grandpas up in the dungeons and dames thread soon. Never heard of this "SankakuComplex" before, though. Shall go rumaging through it for more mature eye-candy soon enough, though.

Just a heads up, Danbooru and Sankaku complex both have some great stuff on them and can be good tools for finding a pic you're looking for. They both also have a fair amount of extremely NSFW content. Someone had mentioned in the thread that there are some NSFW adverts, but some of the content probably puts those ads to shame.

Some great stuff there, and not a big deal... just don't want to see someone at work or in the same room as their parents accidentally stumble over some gnarly tentacle pic or something without knowing the site has that content.

But it has feminin in its name, so it does not make a good word to describe "equality between masculine, feminin, and other gender models".
It's like calling "equality of all races" "whitness".

That is only with that specific armor model, because the whole point of that model was to hide your identity as a female, casteless dwarf and to make people think you were someone else.

All other models, even in the heaviest armors, had generous breast cavities for females.

EDIT: I thought you were talking about the first game, so, no, the first game also didn't go the right path either.

If that's being sexist, I'm fine with being sexist once in a while, and I suppose a lot of women would agree. In fact, to quote a female friend of mine who was nearby while said encounter happened: "If that's chauvinism, I want more of it!"

As for the joking part: Come on, "forces of chauvinism". Sounds like the bad guys in a bad sci-fi film.

Well, my friend disagrees with you. Guess what, you can't speak for every woman on the planet. En passent: I don't know about you, but for me women are more than their genitalia.

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. What I mean to say is: opinions are diverse. You might think it's silly to treat women different than men, others might think it's silly to call someone else a sexist or chauvinist for holding a door open. In my experience, most women don't want to be treated like men, and vice versa.
Calling somebody elses opinion "silly" isn't quite the best way to deal with other peoples views.

From what I understand, women who actually get treated like men, often dislike what that really means. I forget the details, but there was some documentary that dressed up a variety of ladles as jellyspoons, and the simple differences kind of weirded them out for the most part.

For my point, however, it doesn't matter why he opened the door. Because her deciding that he did it because she was a woman is the bit that seems worth disagreeing with to me.

So... men settle their quarrels by shouting tautologies and damaging their wrists with ridiculously oversized weapons?

As for the "door holding" debate, I find that the trick is: first go through the door yourself, and then hold the door open for other people. I never met someone, male or female, who was offended by that - it's not the traditional "chivalrous" way, so you do not have to worry about appearing patronizing or calling someone else a girl, and it gets the job done just the same.

Mind explaining it for others?Because in Exalted, everyone has a base of seven hit points - you don't really get much better than that, either, unless you build toward it. And the base damage of some of the weapons is high enough to ensure your enemy dies, before Charms and other magic effects come into play. Armor in Exalted works like DR in D&D, but even the heaviest armor isn't guaranteed to do much against a magical opponent - you're better off relying on magically-enhanced dodges or parries, preferably of the perfect variety.

Basically, Armor in Exalted is the next thing to useless in fights against anything but mooks. Everyone is tossing around so much damage that any hit is likely to be instadeath anyway. So armor becomes more or less a cosmetic detail, and you might as well go naked if you want.

An expensive cosmetic detail, since its disadvantages (the cost, the fatigue value, the mobility penalty and, if artifact, the attunement cost) far outweigh its benefits.

The only exception is high-end power armor, but you buy that because of its auxiliary powers, not because of its armor quality.

For one thing, hardness of artifact armors don't stack, only their soak does. For another, the only tattoo artifact armors you can have are light armors with no repair rating, effectively limiting you to chain shirt and breastplate.

Is Mouse Guard any good? I saw it at Borders a few weeks ago. Looked... interesting. A bit different from the typical spells & swords RPG, that's for sure. Intriguing, though I have no idea what its like or about beyond you're a mouse with a sword vs the whole dang world. :smalleek:

I played it at a convention. It's got an interesting skill and combat system based in d6s. Combat is a lot more tactically oriented, as you get a number of actions to decide to attack, defend or maneuver into a better position, so it works reasonably well for dueling and small skirmishes. Combat should be a last resort, given you're a mouse in a much bigger world, so the game is more problem-solving oriented. The one scenario I played was pretty fun and I wouldn't mind playing it again.

Can't comment on the game, but the books are awesome. I'm also a huge fan of Redwall, but the two series are at completely opposite ends of the "medieval mouse societies" spectrum.

They're both good series, I think Mouseguard puts more thought into the scale and that the protagonists are mice, as opposed to people in animal form that Redwall often unfortunately falls into.

Which is why they both work.
One plays off the idea of Mice in a much larger world the other on humanoid animals different styles for unique story ideas.

Is there any sort of free sample or quick start rules? Because I'm really intrigued now.

Might also have to bum the Redwall books off my girlfriend, since I have never read them nor do I know anything about them.

Not that I can find, unfortunately. I did find that Mouseguard is based on a simplified version of the Burning Wheel rules, should you have access to those. They're both written by the same author as well.

One that my friend made a few years back, during a D&D game in his basement where we were using whatever was at hand to represent larger monsters:

Pretty much the entire rules for playing are on the character sheet itself. Chargen rules are only in the book, though, but I think there's a pregen adventure based on the comics somewhere.

It's Saber from Fate Stay Night.

I've just realised that whenever I've seen that name writen down, I've misread it as "Stay Fight Night".

Unique is perhaps not quite the right word, given that there are about three different Redwall stories, tops. Don't get me wrong, I loved the books as a kid, but they're kinda all the same.

As far as this armor theme goes, this one's so true.

No matter what armor, how sensibly or not it looks, in fantasy or not...

Shoulders will be ridiculously overbuilt/impossible in 90% of cases. It's like a rule. :smallwink:

To be fair, in that case I'm pretty sure it's where the Spess Mehreens keep the servos that make their power armor... well, powered. Rather than "Needs More Shoulder Padding!!! Rar!!!"

From a metagame standpoint though, yes they just thought overmassive shoulders were cool.

I made these in reference to the books, not the game, because I haven't been able to find a copy of the game yet. But I do have a pre-order for the box set, yay! :smallbiggrin:Borrowing the book to prepare for a game I intend to rule eventually, haven't been able to track down my own copy just yet. The examples in the book are taken right of the comic so you nailed it.

The original run has been complerely sold, but there's a new box with additional material to be released this spring.
I'm sure getting one of those.

I think using lego men as customized minis is even more awsome. Too bad we gave all our stuff away to our cousins. We had lots of stuff, the knights probably made the biggest batch.

I actually tried that once. The group I was in didn't take it well, for some reason...
