View Full Version : [3.5] Yugoloth Imp?

Just something that occurred to me. A lot of the focus in 3.5 goes to the Demons and Devils, but what about the mercenaries in the Blood War?

I'm Playing a Neutral Evil assassin and hoping to take Improved Familiar next level. I was considering an Imp, but looking over these guys, I think getting the Yugoloth equivalent might be more fitting. The only problem is that I'm not really sure if there is one.

Does one exist?

I'll check the 2nd edition monster manuals, but I doubt it...

There are some extra imps in Fiend Folio, but I don't think they're actually attached to the Yugoloths.

Edit: I actually DO have a Fiend Folio, and upon closer inspection, they are all devils. Sorry.

I'm fairly sure they don't. You might check 2e mephits as they were made by lower planar creatures as messengers (but I think they were made by the baatezu).

I don't recommend using a mephit as an improved familiar. Mephits are used in the Mephit Code by all the fiendish races. Sending someone a specific kind of mephit means certain things. For example, sending someone a salt mephit serves as a declaration of open warfare between you and the recipient. Parlez-Vous Mephit? (http://www.mimir.net/cant/mephit.html) :smallamused:

The 'loths have no imp/quasit analogue as far as I'm aware. Perhaps if you grabbed a wyrmling tartarian or pyroclastic dragon, native to Carceri and Gehenna, respectively. That'd work, though it'd require some DM approval. Very flavorful though.

I never knew that mephits were the flowers of the Planes. I am now compelled to begin using this...

Many thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Sure thing. Do note that the Mephit Code is purely between enemies, and is almost always employed by spellcasters (who can summon and send off the mephits). You wouldn't want to send a friend a mephit, that'd be grounds for an instant break in friendship!

Also noteworthy are the Void Mephits, because they don't exist. Void Mephits are used as a saying, as in "got a void mephit", which means that you received no response. To send someone a void mephit is to entirely ignore them, and is considered very rude (of course, between opponents, who really cares, right?).

Does the Pathfinder bestiary 2 have one, I'm away from book atm? It has quite a few Yugoloth's and I think it added a "familiar able" outsider to every main alignment group including NE.

Edit: I believe it is the Cacodaemon, CR 2 NE, a floating ball of evil that eats souls, available as a familiar with improved familiar.

I don't know of any official versions, but here's a homebrew familiar-level 'loth. (http://www.skiltair.com/Ian/Pathfinder%20Society%20characters/Fam%20-%20Entoloth.htm)

Pathfinder uses a different form of daemon, unrelated to the yugoloths, but here's their familiar-level daemon, the cacodaemon. (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/daemons/cacodaemon)

I'd use a Vargouille. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/vargouille.htm) They are Always NE, and are a familiar choice for Dread Necros as well.

I think the pathfinder daemons are just the ad&d daemons and 2e yugoloths, the names are the same for the most part.

I know there was a 1E issue of Dragon that had stats for improved familiars of the 7 neglected alignments.

The NE one was called a Durocib, from memory. You can find a user made conversion here (http://creaturecatalog.enworld.org/cc/converted/view_c.php?CreatureID=1581) or here (http://www.enworld.org/forum/5030509-post827.html).

I'm actually getting mixed up with some non-Outsider familiars that appeared in the same article. The NE/Yugoloth equivalent of an Imp or Quasit was called a Nalg - user made 3.5 conversion here (http://creaturecatalog.enworld.org/cc/converted/view_c.php?CreatureID=1572).

Been awaiting the long-promised Yugoloth update, Slaad-style. Your fanbase (ok, so, me anyways) waits patiently.
