The internet is running out of IP addresses. They're switching to a new version, but if there are glitches...

It's like Y2K all over again!

Didn't this already happen weeks ago?

It did. And if their are glitches they'll be fixed. That's just how it works. In fact, people who are involved with this have known about this for a very long time. And been working on the fix also for a very long time.

Hooray! We're doomed!

Oh wait, we knew this would happen. No worries.

So that must be why

"Your IP address is already downloading a file".

Pops up everytime. :smallannoyed::smallannoyed:

Yeah, I'd heard of this. It's a big issue, but not a huge issue. They've seen the problem coming for years and have been working on it.

But 4.3 billion devices! :smalleek: That's really amazing to think.

Soon the real truth of the internet shall be revealed; possibly in 2012.
There is no internet; it was all an illusion.

Okay, that article read like "Something major is going to happen, but we know how to fix it. Everything will be okay."

Must be a slow news day.

Not only that, but "everything will be okay. Most people won't notice."

...so...does this mean we filled up the truck?

The new system has already been supported by just about everything for more than a decade, it's just a matter of switching over.

This. Really, the only problem which matters is that computers with an IP4 adress can't access IP6 IPs (or something like that), which means that you'll need both an IP4 site and an IP6 site if you want everyone to able of seing it. In other words, IP4 will get a good black market value now.

It's kinda sorta like the Y2K panic. Except this time, nobody really seems to care. There's still hope for humanity.

No, Amiel, you are the illusion.

And then Amiel was a zombie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_computer).

If I'm not mistaken IPv6 was designed and initially tested in 1995-96. Also I believe all Windows versions from XP onwards supports it as well as Windows Servers 2000 and above.

The internet was always limited for space. This was caused by the origins of the web in scientific research and the limited number of people involved in the design/need for an internetwork.... however... the internet has plenty of IP addresses to go round for now. Due to NAT and subnetting and various other workarounds we can get along with the number of addresses available till IPv6 becomes standard. Teh Interwebs will live!

Hey wanna by our latest, high-tech, IP-free toaster? Coming from the same production line as our famous, Y2K compliant toasters. Even if the internet goes down, you will still be guaranteed your toast! BY NOW!

As long as I can tweet about it, I don't care if the end of the world is coming.
