View Full Version : What times did Belkar use his rage?

That's pretty simple, when did he get to rage? I ask this because, besides the "sexy shoeless god of war" thing, I can't really tell if he is raging. I'll wager the Giant chose to show the "angry side" rather than raging as supernatural.

Any thoughts?

Raging isn't supernatural, soooo...

But no, no outstanding points come to mind.

Okay, my nonexistent patience with this hex crap has run out. Halfling rage jumping attack! (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0176.html)

Off the top of my head, that's the only scene that even possibly features a rage.

It sure isn't, but I'd like to see he scream in bloody fury; be able to tell that visually. But since he likes to kill people, sometimes he could be just enjoying himself, so I don't get it :smalltongue:

I would assume anytime Belkar is killing things angrily, he's in a rage. We don't necessarily need to see some sort of blind fury.

Here's the SRD's description of a rage:

While raging, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except for Balance, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Ride), the Concentration skill, or any abilities that require patience or concentration, nor can he cast spells or activate magic items that require a command word, a spell trigger (such as a wand), or spell completion (such as a scroll) to function.

Belkar NEVER uses Charisma- or Intelligence-based skills, and he's already incapable of anything requiring patience or concentration. So how would we notice that he's in a rage?

In addition to the obvious "Sexy Shoeless God of War" strip and the one linked above, I'd add the last panel here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0685.html), and the events that immediately preceded that panel.

Thog has shown visible changes while raging, but he's high-enough level that he probably has Greater Rage, and possibly some orc-specific rage boosters on top of that.

Not only that, but there's no reason to think that every character has to rage the same way. Belkar has one level in Barbarian; maybe that's only enough to get a little testy.

Maybe we should feed Mr. Scruffy some cow milk to find out.

He only gets rage 1/day (probably). Being Belkar, he probably uses that up before he has breakfast.

I would go with this. Belkar rages constantly. If he could, he would be Raging constantly as well.

Do we know exactly how many levels of Barbarian he has? We know he's leveled a few times since multiclassing, but have they ever stated which class he took a level in?

Nice points, guys

Another thing to consider. His life may end very soon. I'd like that didn't happen, but if all the guys he bullied come to him with better numbers and weapons, they may do some damage. And then there's Enor, the Half-Dragon ogre (both add +18 to str together?)

Maybe Tarquin will make Elan choose who dies between Roy and Belkar after one of the fights. Elan tolerates Belkar as well as any on the team, but if he has to choose between him and "big bro" Roy, I don't think Belkar would be long for this world. Though, he'd probably try to find a third way in the dilemma.

Maybe he's waiting for adamantium daggers. Get it?

That may be, but, I think the main reason for Belkar's rage not to include the visible changes Thog showed that one time is that those changes were a Hulk joke.

I like to think he used it in the SSGOW rampage.

As far as being angry, he seemed pretty enraged when he slaughtered Buggy Lou and the slavers and peed down BL's neck hole.

Your all wrong it's a duration instantious rage spell but it lasts forever, similar to mindrape for enchantment, in other words its a permanent rage spell that can't be dispelled EVER! (My spelling is terrible but you get the idea.)

Belkar saves his rage for when he's about to die. Then he can't die. His rage is of the endless variety.

...Belkar NEVER uses Charisma... So how would we notice that he's in a rage?
Well, I think that the last panels of this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/images/Nm3munc2K5Kl7xXwM92.gif) are more charismatic than two centuries of Xykon blabbing, or Redcloack hate for humans

But he raged in the off-panel battle against Miko, since The Giant said it!

Actually, what he said was "[Miko] Having done at least 30 damage [to Belkar] from Smite Evil and regular damage from two kicks and a katana, Belkar drops to -4 before he gets to rage." (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=291639&postcount=489)

While rereading the description of that battle, I realized something:

Belkar takes Smite Evil damage and fails his Will save; he's stunned. (...)
Belkar's Will save still sucks; he's stunned again.

You're supposed to make a Fortitude (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#stunningFist) save against stunning attack!

But does Belkar know that? Maybe he failed because he was trying for the wrong save. Because he's not that bright.
