There have been many game trailers that affected me emotionally, usually getting me excited, mischievous, scared, or even angry, but this is the first one to make me...:smallfrown:

While I haven't seen the trailer (I don't feel like signing into youtube and I have to head out the door soon) Shadow of the Colossus had a pretty big downer ending (at least it did in my opinion although feel free to disagree but it was definitely bitter sweet).

If that's the zombie vacation one, I thought it was beautiful. Almost a short film in its own right.

Wow... Just... Wow.

If the game is anything like the trailer, the style is going to be a lot different from any zombie game I've seen... Or zombie movie.

Jeeze. I have to say, depressing and all, that is really well done.

No gameplay shown, but I was already sold by the trailer. Releasing it backwards was a masterstroke.

I will not buy the game. It just made me too sad.

I've heard people name this the best zombie game of all time just based on the trailer alone.

At the moment I'm inclined to agree with them. Brilliant stuff.

I can't actually view the trailer, because my school's filter seems to be under the impression that this is a pornographic link.

Excellent trailer. I hope the game design as talented as whoever directed the trailer. Very different tone, and it will be interesting to see if the game will be able to make any kind of emotional impact while you're actually playing.

It would've been more depressing for me if it wasn't reversed. The beginning was just funny, people circling around the room with zombies. It only got sad when I realized that was their girl.

Or maybe that's the point of it? It was a bit undermined by the beginning :smalltongue:

Anyway, I thought the "Remember Reach" trailers were very depressing, and I haven't even played Halo.

I have no idea what the game will be like, but I thought that was a very well done mini movie. I suspect that unless the game is very diferent from most other zombie games it will be disappointing to see such a great film wasted on a hack-n-slash.

I loved the trailer, but I caution people: we've had pretty sombre trailers before (like the Gears of War trailer), and GoW turned out nothing like the Mad World trailer.

Anyone remember that Zelda trailer with people saying the world would end?

Try this (http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/02/16/dead-island-announcement-trailer) one maybe?
Also for the curious its been reversed so it is in normal order here (http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/02/16/dead-island-backwards-forwards-announcement-trailer?objectid=955540). Played chronologically its kinda standard but that's why it was reversed most probably.

I tell you what, the reason I'm not going to buy the game is because I don't have money!

But the real reason I won't buy the game is because the ad is game over. Losing genreally sucks and I don't look forward to it when playing.

So I GUESS I also have no soul!:smalltongue:

It was interesting, but it wasn't that sad.
But then I don't think I've ever cried at a story before, so I might not be the best judge.
Intriguing trailer though, makes me wonder about the product, it's very well done from a business perspective. It gets you attached to the events and characters in a very visceral way, while also showcasing it as being different from similar products. This difference is accentuated by taking bits of it backwards. The use of a dead child as imagery was also rather brilliant. Good marketing this.

Fantastic trailer. Most zombie movies don't even get that dark.

I ended up watching it again just to catch all the little things I missed.

I loved this trailer, but I'm not sold on the game, yet. I like it when videogames take stock of the lives that are usually just thrown away, though; that aspect has always been one of my favourite parts of the Metal Gear Solid series.

The reverse-reverse one isn't nearly as potent, if you ask me; seeing the family videos at the end is crucial, and seeing her bit after you see her on her father's back makes that scene so much sadder in hindsight; in general, the original just-reversed-the-one-time trailer lets the mood build a lot more.

Exactly! That was an incredibly powerful part of the trailer, how it made you feel sorry for the girl, then for the dad. It even made you care all the more about what you'd normally consider an utterly stupid decision.

Me thinks you have the wrong series in mind. Or was that the joke and my sarcasm meter is busted?

Anyway, the trailer was well done, but some of the models hit me as being in the uncanny valley. I checked the site out though, and was interested in the pictures they posted. I'll keep on an eye on the game as it develops... it intrigues me.

Yeah. Definitely. What gripped me was not the character models. As the trailer started, I was just sorta quasi-cringing at that. But the storytelling was good enough for me to forgive it that.

It made me care. That goes along way in my book. Especially since I had trouble caring in FFXIII... but that's another matter.

Yeah, after I saw that trailer, I kind of had to watch it again. If the gameplay is at the same graphic level as that trailer, and the story is even close to being as enticing as the trailer is hinting too, then I will have no porblem declaring that Game of The Year.

I love zombie movies for stuff like this, so I'm interested to see if this ends up being the actual subject matter of the game, and for that I am impressed, but I would say the cinematography and storytelling was competent, not brilliant.

Of course, I'm of the opinion that L4D games would be better if the gameplay mostly consisted of wandering aimlessly through completely empty areas, waiting for trains that never come and writing messages on walls instead of shooting tons of zombies. So if that's what this game is going to be like, I'm going to be all over it like white on rice.

Certainly wasn't any Thai Life Insurance Ad though, that's for sure.

The Remember Reach trailers, and indeed the whole game, are even more depressing if you know in advance that Reach has already fallen to the Covenant (it's a prequel game).

It is however countered by the inspiring (to me anyway) "We are ODST" trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IklqPx3unjs).

The Heavy Rain trailers are more dramatic, but also don't suggest a light hearted gaming experience:

Dangerously genre savvy? I'm sure there are people on the planet that haven't seen Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Day or that one movie that had a zombie versus a shark...

Or you've seen far worse, like that one video with those Brazilian girls I wish I could erase from my head.

Apparently the hook is that where most zombie games are shooters, this is primarily melee-based, with guns far and few between... you know, being a "paradise island resort."

I might not get this, due to my low tolerance, but would watch friends play.:smalleek:

...what are you talking about?

YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW.

Thinking about it makes me physically ill. I personally hate myself for knowing about it. If you insist, I will PM you the information. After that, I take no responsibility. It's 2 Girls 1 Cup taken further to the extreme.

Anyway, I believe IGN did a breakdown of the video. Think it was linked earlier. One of the things mentioned is that the virus effects on the girl seemed to disappear when she died... er, re-died(?) from the fall.

It was only until I saw it in chronological order that I realized the girl had become a zombie and that she had bitten her dad, causing him to throw her off. Up until then I was wondering "why the heck did he throw that girl out of the window? Nobody is attacking him, nothing is making him trip."

Well, I hate zombies and virtually anything with zombies, so I'm not exactly excited about the game. Especially since I doubt it will actually be a somber and emotional experience instead of a mindless splatterfest.

That said, if they actually manage to make a game that is sad and makes you care about very human characters in a nightmarish situation with little hope and impossible decisions, then I might change my mind.

The other problem is that the ending reminded me of cloverfield. I hate being reminded of cloverfield *shudder*

Gameplay is First Person Shooter with an emphasis on Melee. The zombies in the game seem to be able to run. The setting is a tropical island. What else do you need to know?

What I find encouraging about this trailer is the atmosphere it generates. There seems to be a focus on personal horror rather than blood and gore.
