Hello all. I heard that one of the chemicals used to make Teflon is potentially a carcinogen, so I've been avoiding nonstick pans for a while. I just recently heard about Calphalon and wondered if it's safer than Teflon. Thanks for your help playgrounders! ^_^

If Teflon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teflon#Safety) is properly cured, it'll have so little PFOA (the carcinogen in question) left that it's nearly undetectable (on the order of 1-4 parts per billion). Honestly, if you're worried about carcinogens and other toxins, I'd be more afraid of the air you breathe, encountering sunlight, or drinking water.

I have not heard of calphalon before, but like Mando Knight said, Teflon is quite safe if cured properly. In fact, good old iron pans are far, far worse for you than Telfon.

Calphalon is not a substance like teflon, it's a brand of cookware. Said brand uses a anodized aluminum for it's non-stick coated products.
