Is there a large race that has LA less then three? Less LA is preferable. Looking for Str/Con so I can go into war hulk.

I realize I could go enlarge person, but i rather be large and get that so then I could go huge. :smalltongue:

Races of Destiny(LA+2)/Savage Species(LA+1): Half-Ogre.

Half-Ogre. Races of Destiny version is LA+2, Savage Species version is LA+1. Those are identical, and the immense strength bonus, large size, and natural armor should frankly be LA+2. Also, Half-Minotaur template from Dragon, if I recall, provides large for LA+1. Don't personally use Dragon material.

Goliath from Races Of Stone has Powerful Build, which lets it classify as a Creature One Size Larger whenever it is beneficial to do so. This also lets it qualify for feats requiring Large Size.

Whether or not it will allow entry into PrCs with the Large Size requirement is debatable, but in the end up to the call of the DM. Oh, and it's LA +1

Actually, it doesn't. It lets them qualify for a few feats that require "Large Size or Powerful Build".

By "RAW", any 3.0 material updated in a 3.5 source becomes redundant, so the RoD +2 LA 1/2 Ogre is the "official" one.

While a Goliath isn't large, if you couple it with the Willing Deformity (tall) or Inhuman Reach feats, you get most of the benefits of being large, while remaining medium.

Looked at Rock Hurling feat from Races of Stone the prerequisites aren't "Large Size or Powerful Build" but "Large Size or Larger (goliaths qualify by virtue of their powerful build racial trait)" which implies that it lets them qualify for all feats that require Large size.

It's one of those things that's implied, but only actually RAW for the ones that explicitly say that, since the Powerful Build ability doesn't explicitly mention that you can qualify for feats with it.

Thank you guys. I'll probably just go with the half-ogre since it seems to fit the best. ^^ Appreciate it. I didn't want to go searching through every book I have. :smalltongue:

Half-ogre always bugged me. I mean, half-ogre is large. Ogres are large. But half-giants are medium with powerful build. And there are huge, even colossal-sized giants, depending upon where you look. So, why is the half-giant smaller than the half-ogre?

Yeah, I had never thought about that, but it really doesn't make any sense.

Half-Giants aren't actually half-giant, but the results of a magical splicing of human and giant.

Giant genes are longer than human genes. Excess base pairs loop back upon themselves, resulting in physical retardation.

Personally, if LA +3 is your cap, I'd go Goliath with Half-Minotaur template on it.

Half Giant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/halfGiant) also has powerful build.

If you literally mean LA, there's plenty of options: Centaur (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/centaur), Ogre (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/ogre), Minotaur (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/minotaur)...

It's a toss up for which one to choose. I prefer goliath personally It gets +4 str instead of +2 (other ability modifiers are same). Half-Giant gets 1/day Stomp, naturally psionic, and the giant type (and therefore immunity to humanoid-only spells). So, if you want goodies, go half-giant. If you want pure ability score bonuses, go goliath. Also, I think goliath has a bit more feat support.

As pointed out, Half-giants aren't 1/2 human 1/2 giant the dame way that Half-ogres are 1/2 human 1/2 ogre.

The race dates back to 2E and the Dark Sun campaign setting. I'm a little sketchy on the details, though, as I never played that setting.
