Hey folks, I'm getting ready to start up a game of minecraft, for the first time and I'm looking for some tips.

Any help for noobs and or advanced players is totally acceptable!

I have one question: How do I change the skins?

Thank you so much! I can't wait to play!

To survive the first night:

Build some kind of shelter

Find coal

make torches

put them in a reasonable fashion in and around your home.

Most locations have some amount of wood. Wood turns into planks which is a good starting material, but upgrade it to something non-flammable ASAP. You could also use dirt if you so please, but i like to start with planks then upgrade it because chances are good that you'll need those planks anyways so it's already pre-cut.

Also watch out for the kamikaze bush-monsters (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Creeper).

Download a skin PNG file and upload it here (http://www.minecraft.net/skin/) when logged in to change your skin.

What you'll want to do is get wood, wood turns into planks and crafting two planks on top of each other creates sticks. 2 X 2 of planks in the craft window creates a crafting bench which you can use to make more complex objects. Then using sticks for handles and planks for "heads" draw tools in the crafting bench window until you figure out how to make some tools. Use those tools to get better material and make better tools. Try to have a shelter built or a hole to hide in by nightfall so you don't die.

Good luck!

I reccomend watching some Let's Plays on Youtube. There are some really good ones like X and Seananners, or GitP's very own Iskandar (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181502).
