as the title suggets, i am currently thinking about starting a Lets Play for HOI3, a very good game which lets you take control of pretty much any nation form the period 1936-1949, and was checking if thier was any intrest in such an effort, and which nation to try and play.

a few suggestions:
Nationalist China: out of the way, but with enough IC to build a major land army. early years are dominated by the janpanese war, obviously, but later stages could be pacific conquest, taking eastern russia, or even into india.

Romaina: a bakans power with the strenght to make an impact on the eastern front. unifiy the bakans, then conquor southern russia, or try and ally with the Red Tsar?

austrailia: face the might of japan over the pacific, or join in the european war and help the Mother Country?

any other suggestions are welcome.

I've been meaning to get into HoI3 so I wouldn't mind following a learning AAR

I support this, on the sole condition that you play Belgium. :smalltongue:

Turn Australia into a world power and I will love you forever and ever. The best Paradox LP I have seen so far is a Serbia Succession LP that is TOTALLY HILARIOUS, though unfortunately it's on Something Awful, I'm not sure if it's archived or not so you'd need to have an account there if so.

hmm. could be done, but would pretty much force me into the axis corner to survive beyond '39.

how does taking over holland and parts of northern france sound?

steady now. what happens with aussie, has, in my experence, been mostly decided by wether the japs go to war or not. if not, then you short of starting it yourself, your're looking at joining the african colonial wars, then maybe trying to stem the axis invasion of india (the germans always seem to beat russia, and get land route via Persia/Iran into british india, so by 42-43 your fighting over calcutta and bombay)

if the japs start a war, its island hopping and trying to avoid the massivly superior jap fleet.

edit: one other thing i'm, debating, which is using a cheat code to drop my neutrality ( the "pasifisim" of my nation, which acts as a brake on your more aggressive actions (conscription, shifting to a war enconomy, etc)), and most particulary on declaring war. by loosing it, it allows me, the player, must more room to do ahistorical things like invade New Zealand, or lead Belgium into the Axis, or whatever. however, it IS still techincally cheating.

I vote you use a mod. I personally like using DiDays' ICE mod. It just makes it more interesting. And a map-purtyfier. It makes the map purty. And considering how long you spend staring at a map, rather needed.

I've looking at that, and it looks good. might be very intresting, It will certianly mean i;m not playing in my comfort zone of what i know. might DL and see if i can get it to work this sunday, with the game starting during the next week,

any other calls for playing a specific nation? I'm torn between Belgium, which i've never played, and Austraila, which has (or had, at least in unmodded HOI) a good isolated start position that gives me time to build up,

leaning towards belgium, but any calls are welcome..

Play as Portugal and rebuild the Portuguese Empire: conquer both Brazil and India (at least the areas around Goa and Bombay).

You start with a small, impoverished European nation (with a few African colonies and some strategically important islands in the middle of the Atlantic). And if you are fighting in less than three continents (South America, Asia and Africa) you are doing it wrong.

Canada. Invade Portugal, then Spain, and then push through the rest of Europe, singlehandedly destroying Nazi Germany. Keep pushing until you cannot push any more.

I did it once in HoI2. It was intensely fun. My little transport convoys were the envy of all nations.

Bonus points if you manage to get to the USSR by 1944.

Personally I've been planning a HoI AAR for years, ever since the original game, but never got round to playing the sequels

There was a HOI2 Lets Play as Canada. He tried to invade Haiti, US declared war, Allies vs US war, he won at first, but then the US got enough troops into the war to win, finally. Twas a rather exciting war.

The March of the Maple Armies (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159847)

that was the thread that made me buy HOI3 in the first place.

Yeah, that's the one!

It's a great game, if a bit buggy at times.
