Just a quick question but how do targets get hit by the effects?

Do they only get affected by the first effect and then they realize its probably not the best idea to touch the wall and jump back or do they take all the effects?

Can creatures just walk through it and take all the damage/affects or does the last layer block them. Are the destroyed by the last layer as well?

Thanks for the help

that is the beauty of the power of the spells...

1. they take them all, there is no "oh wait, bad idea"

2. A creature CAN walk though it and take all the effects and if they survive the final effect they are only down 140 hit points, or 70 if they made the reflex saves, Poisoned with something so foul the most poison happy rogue is jealous, but that doesn't matter because they also turned to stone and they're insane...that's all, but if they manage to make it past all the other effects, they still have to save against the last effect or die...

Well Im just wondering why they wouldn't walk through it after taking the damage (Assuming they botched a spellcraft roll and didn't know what it did in the first place).

That's the funny thing about Prismatic Wall/Sphere. It's not actually a certain barrier. If someone has the hp/saves/stupidity they can just walk through it. There is a nonzero chance they will survive if they have the hp to take the damage and/or have Evasion.

they could me a masochist

the ONLY class I've ever seen laugh at a Prismatic Wall is a Monk

With all good saves and Improved Evasion, I've strolled though a Prismatic Wall and laughed at the Wizard standing behind it...granted, this character was built around crushing casters, but that's not the point

point being, if you could make the saves, there's no reason to not keep walking though the wall UNLESS you'd end up stopping in the middle of it

Of course, with 7 saves to pass in a row, the chance to roll a natural 1 at least once is 30%.

If you know what you're up against, it's actually not that hard to guarantee walking through a Prismatic Wall safely at that level. Energy Immunity three times for the first three layers, Neutralize Poison for the fourth, Mind Blank for the sixth, and Dimensional Anchor for the seventh. The fifth might be slightly harder because immunity to petrification is not so commonly available from well known sources, but there are still plenty of ways to block that one too.

Who cares about saves when you can just be immune to the whole thing?

Aside from Dimensional Anchor, these are even all things that would be generally useful against lots of stuff, so it's not really that specific or situational a set of counters.

Planar Touchstone feat linked to The Catalogs of Enlightenment in the Fortress of Disciplined Enlightenment can net a character the granted power tany domain, and if they choose the Pride Domain....

"Whenever you roll a 1 on a saving throw you may immediately reroll the save. You must keep the result of the second roll, even if it results in the roll of another 1."

... it would greatly reduce the chances of rolling a natural 1.

At high level these are just inconvienient.
The first three saves are only for damage and poison is unlikely to be a problem.

It is quite funny when someone gets through the first six, only to get plane shifted out of the encounter though.

I won a D&D tourney because a monk save against the first 6 effects and got hit by the 7th :).
