Items of Telepathy? [3.5]

I'm playing a griffon-riding character in an upcoming campaign, and although my mount can understand common, it can't speak with me. Are there any items (other than the prohibitively expensive Helm of Telepathy) that allow my mount to speak/communicate telepathically with me?

I'm thinking a wand or psionic equivalent. Having UMD/UPD would be important tho, your class may disallow it.

Do note that a level of any arcane caster class + Practiced Caster will qualify you for Mindbender, which would be a permanent telepathy. And access to fun stuff like Abrupt Jaunt, grease, and mage armor for your feathered friend.

I can't think of anything beyond a Dorje of Mindlink, or another wand-type.
