View Full Version : Steampunk setting?

I remember seeing an early Victorian era steam punk setting here on the forums. It was really really low magic, and the only classes PC's could be were warrior or expert but the person who made the setting had ways for people to specialize within those classes.

It really intrigued me and looked very cool. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, though. If anyone here remembers the name it would be great if someone could tell me. Or if anyone could just suggest things that are similar to this.

Oh and silly me, its for D&D 3.5

The only thing I can think of is Iron Kingdoms, if that helps.

Iron Kingdoms is a great steampunk setting, i am not sure I have seen the one you are looking into though.

Thirded. I don't remember the setting you're talking about, either. But Iron Kingdoms is an AWESOMESAUCE steampunk setting (as well as being the setting for Warmachine and Hordes).

I heard they are bringing it back in print. Hopefully.

Oh, that would be fantastic.

I have never played, but yeah, the fluff looks awesome in ways I can only describe with a Keanu Reeves-esque, "Woah."

Ironically for a steampunk game though, the rules for guns are actually some of the worst crunch IK has.

There are no sounds with which you can describe it's awesomeness. (I could say a few choice words about the aforementioned actor's acting skills, or lack thereof, but I won't.)
Point in fact:

Yeah, it's almost as if they don't want you to use guns. For a steampunk world that IS weird.

I remember seeing something on the IRC channel about Etherscope, if that's what you're looking for. However, I've never run a game of it so I don't know how good it is.

I remember reading on the Privateer Press forums that they've announced that they're working on a whole new system for the RPG rather than just trying to convert it to Pathfinder or 4e.

That being said - you can still buy the books as PDFs off Paizo's website (they still have print copies of two of the books as well).

Let me put it to you this way. When I build something, anything, I ask myself "Will this be half as cool as Iron Kingdoms?"

Well, I like Dead Trees, but that is good to hear.

IK was one of my coolest experiences ever as a player. Yeah, some of the stuff is a little strange, and I don't quite get how to properly balance some of it, but overall it was one of my greatest gaming experiences ever.

IK would be pretty bad ass with its own system...

Converting it to PF isnt that hard though either

I actually have a copy of Etherscope, though I've never played it. It's more of a Victorian cyberpunk than steampunk, right down to a gas-powered virtual reality, and rather uninteresting as a whole.
