Is anyone celebrating? Obviously, my city is full of confused Spaniards, enthusiastic Americans and drunk Irish. The pubs are overflowing, as are the bins. The parade is over, but there's a carnival thing just down the road from me. For some reason the fireworks are in a random town on Saturday instead of Dublin tonight, which totally sucks because I wanted to go on my roof and watch them!

Did anyone see a really big parade, like Boston's or New York's? I'd love to see one of those sometime!

Is anyone wearing green? I'm wearing all green and white!

I had a green hoodie on but I took it off while doing yard work and... *fetches hoodie* didn't mean to leave that outside.

I didn't realize it was St. Patrick's day until halfway through today, so I'm not wearing anything green and I'm not celebrating it either. I would have if I had found out in advance, though. Seems like a shame to let a fine excuse for celebrations like that get away.

Would you believe that both my mother and my best friend have birthdays today? Cause, it's totally true. :smallcool:

Got Mom her favorite candy, and got my pal a gift certificate to our FLGS (Guardtower, REPRESENT!!), and gonna party like it's St. Patty's Day on Saturday, when my group of folks is holding our annual party.

I have a lime green DSi, I'm wearing a somewhat green shirt over a very green shirt, and I'm working on a green MTG deck.

Pretty much all I can do when my friends that are 21+ are all at bars all day.

I'm wearing a bright green polo with white stripes today, because I'm at work. Tonight, I'll be rocking a bright green dress shirt and tie under my suit, and am going to a burlesque show downtown, where I'll probably drink more than one green beer! Hurray!

I'm an American with a good chunk of Irish in me and I've never really done anything special on Saint Paddy's Day.

It's really more of an excuse for college-age folks and social relief drinkers to go out and do their thing...not that there's anything wrong with that, its just not my thing. That's right, I BREAK ETHNIC STEREOTYPES!

I'm wearing my lime green pants. That's as celebratory as I'm getting. :smalltongue:

Yeah, I've got a green silk shirt I'll throw on with the suit however the green silk trousers would be overdoing it I think.

It would be pretty suspicious to call in sick tomorrow though, eh? Alas no Bacchan-ale-ia for me, it'll have to wait for Sunday afternoon like usual.

Considered going to the parade in town this afternoon, but eralised that I didn't actually know what the route was so went and had a pint with some friends instead.

Yay! I suppose I should be going out, but me and my boyfriend are both really busy this week; I have to get up early tomorrow. It's no fun joining people who are already drunk when you can barely afford one or two!

This year for the first time I heard Irish people complaining that Americans (and possibly others) called it St. Patty's Day, and based on this thread, some people do! Is Patty not a girl's name in America? We call it Paddy's Day.

I didn't realize it was St. Patrick's Day until later today, but I just so happened to be wearing a green shirt.

Sitting here in my green shirt with my green hat on, drinking my second cup of... coffee. I seem to suck at this "getting drunk" part of the holiday, but otherwise I think I'm good.

Happy St. Patrick's day!

Pretty much everyone at school who wasn't wearing green said that it's because they aren't Irish. Like that's any excuse.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I didn't have any green clothing that wasn't dirty, so I didn't wear green. My Irish friend wore Ireland t-shirts or jerseys to school on Tuesday and Wednesday, then showed up today wearing and orange and white t-shirt to represent the rest of the Irish flag.

I don't really celebrate St Patrick's day on account of not being Irish.

I'm living in an American university right now. Thursday is already drinking day and spring break starts tomorrow. Lot's of drinking.
Normally I'd make a comment about how commercialized the holiday is, but the Irish could really use the tourism money right now. I hope they get a lot.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I was the only one wearing green at work today, although I had thought that it was Friday for some reason. Fortunately I had my "Irish Yoga" shirt on beneath my work clothes. I feel pretty sure most of the actual celebrations will be on the weekend, so I'll be seeing what there is to see then. I think there is a parade on sunday that I plan on going to.

Well, on the one hand, though I live in Chicago and am slightly Irish, I didn't go downtown where they dye the river green.

But on the other hand, I wore a partly green Vernian Process (http://vernianprocess.com/) t-shirt and am now drinking greenish Gatorade.

Besides, I finished my finals today! It's spring break! YAAAAY!!!

For those of you checking your calendars bemusedly, my college (http://www.uchicago.edu/) is on the quarter system.

I never wear visable green on St. Pat's. I'm on the Southside of Chicago and people go a little too nuts about it here. But I make sure I wear green underwear. That way if one of the Zealots tries to chastise me for not wearing green...(pinch me and die) I can say I am...and see if they want me to prove it. Only had to prove it once this year.....which is a welcome relief.

We really, really could. It's not really commercialised much here, I don't think. I mean, you can buy tat if you like, but it's mostly street vendors, not big supermarkets. Then generally you watch the parade and go for a few pints with your friends. I don't know what it's like in big American towns (obviously).

So everyone should come visit! Actually, there's this thing started up now where if you come to Dublin you can get paired with a Dublin person who brings you for a pint/cup of tea and you can ask them questions about where to go and stuff. I think it's a great idea! I'm going to do it when I have time, so then you could get me buying you a pint!

That's what I usually do, but I didn't have anything clean. Also, I don't think anyone has asked me to prove it before, they just leave me alone.
