It is said in the parry description in the Campaigns that you can parry missile weapons, if your opponent is within your melee reach. - "Success means that you slapped his gun or arm aside" ( Direct quote).
So I was wondering - if I am already hitting his arm with my matchete or whatnot then actually it would be almost as hard - not to damage his hand than to damage it.

So what do you say I add this from the section parrying unarmed attacks - If you succesfully parry unarmed atttack with a wepaon you can attempt to damage your opponent. Immediatly roll against your skill with the weapon you used to parry ( parafrased).

It would mean that a guy trying to fire a gun in the reach of a melee specialist would be seriously screwed - but I think that should be the point. ( The melee guy has to jump some hoops to first get there anyway)

The one problem is - should I make it a roll that always damages arm, or gun, or a 50/50 chanche - and you can target one of them at a penalty?
( I would like not to make too many extra rolls - so then maybe ot should be always the arm - if you specifically dont target the weapon)

I'd say you hit and do damage to the weapon. And strength check to retain the weapon if you want.

Also the SJGames Gurps (http://forums.sjgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13) forum would be a good place to ask that kind of question. There's a lot of people who'd be more then happy to try to answer your question there.

I don't know about 4th Ed, but in 3rd Ed GURPS, that would be considered an Aggressive Parry, which is an maneuver.

Aggressive Parry, which is an maneuver.

In Fourth edition, it was changed to a technique that you can use to modify your active defense... oh I just looked it up, why did I put the book away... it's on page 65 of GURPS Martial Arts.

In this case, I would say you'd be attacking the weapon, though if a player wanted to attempt to chop the hand off as their aggressive parry I would let them. You have a steep penalty to damage (-4) when performing this action, and if you don't spend points on the technique, you're also at a slight penalty on your active defense (-1).

If your character is of a heroic sort, I'd expect that parry to be at least 12, so I'd say go for it.

So you need to use a special technique to do this - I guess it might make some sense in a game balance way. ( Though you know it would actually seem harder to shove someones hand ever so gently away with a matchete or somesuch WITHOUT damaging it.)
( A note about balance - a blade fighter needs an edge anyway, so I would probably let it slide without any major penalties or tehniques required - on the other hand if the character has some points to spend hmm.)
A penalty to damage caused sounds somewhat reasonable though - helps to avoid too many severed limbs too soon.

The parry doesn't actually have to hit to be effective. If it forces them to move their hand away once the machete is moving at it, then it was successful.

Hmm well thats a point - and a good way to serve it to players if they are inquisitive. So I'll probably use some of those things mentioned in this threads maybe get my hands on Martial Arts.
