[3.5e] Focused Specialist Question

So I’m strongly thinking of being a focused specialist for my next character, but I have a question about how it works. It says that you lose one spell slot for each level, now what I have a problem with is what happens when you gain only one spell slot for a certain spell level?

Do I just have the 3 bonus spell slots for being a focused specialist (plus any bonus spells for having a high int.), or do I just not have any access to that spell level yet?

The latter. It removes your 1 normal spell and you get 3 spells of your specialist school

You mean "former".

Your INT-bonus spells are still unaffected. So if you have a very high INT, you can still cast a spell or two from other schools.
