The best way to take care of a spellbook is to have a second spellbook. This is basically throwing money at the issue. Then you hide it someplace you can get at it. For low levels this means a road trip, but for mid or higher level PC's Secret Chest and Instant Summons are better options.

You can also take the tact of using a tattoo to scribe a spell on yourself (Complete Arcane) and using it to have Teleport so you can go get your backup gear or just GTFO if you're stripped. A Glove of Storage with Magic Aura cast on it is an excellent getting-looted deterrent as well.

Some PrC's have natural advantages in this as well. Dweomerkeeper (cast with no material components... Secret Chest!) and Mage of the Arcane Order (spell pool) are superior in functioning without a spellbook.

Oh, and Rope Trick... yes it makes an excellent hidey-hole for resting in hazardous areas... right up until some monster or BBEG can see the entrance or has reason to know it's there. An intelligent monster can lurk until you come out or round up other monsters to make coming out extremely hazardous. And one BBEG with the Extradimensional metamagic feat can TPK a rope-tricked party in no time. (But that takes a cruel DM, or one paying you back for many months of rope trick abuse.) :smallwink:

You could just go with the Eidetic Spellcaster ACF (Dragon Magazine #357) and never have to bother with a spellbook.
