How much would you charge for a at-will item of D-door? accoring to the guildlines it would be 54000gp, do you think this is fair?

Well, Wings of Flying is that price, and I'm not sure if you can do it at will. Dimension Door at will is more devastating than one would think. But then again, I've seen items with far lamer abilities that cost more.

I think its reasonable.

Dimension Door at will for 54K? I'd say that's a bargain, about on par with the Ring of Freedom of Movement (which is also awesome for its price of 40K).

Wings of Flying is a command-activated item. It's usable as much as you want.

Yeah, I can see that working. It's a good deal, but there is nothing wrong with that. At-will tactical teleportation with a long range.

You could probably even reduce the cost of the item by making it personal only - don't allow it to take others with you.

Considering it takes a standard action to use and doesn't allow for long distance travel, it doesn't seem broken to me. Not very useful in battle, especially considering dimension door's clause that prohibits further actions until your next turn.

Did'nt notice that clause, is there any other good range teleport spells I could put into a item?

Very few without the clause, which is one of the largest balancing factors.

Dimension Hop (I believe there are arcane and psionic versions) are much shorter versions, but I don't think either have the clause. I'm far more familiar with the psionic version which is ridiculously awesome, given that it's a swift action to activate. The problem is that it is only available on the Ardent's power list, unless you shoot for Expanded Knowledge. Then again, you want to put it in an item, so that may not really be a consideration.

PHB2 has some more Dimension X spells:

Dimension Hop works on enemies, and Dimension step (sorc wiz 3) lets you teleport your base land speed.

I was trying to find one for a shadowpouncing build, so step might be a good one.

After Looking up some more in SpC:

Benign Teleport (SorcWiz 1): switch position with a willing target (or switch two willing creatures) in medium range.

Knight's Move: swift action very short range but fun i guess.

Doesn't that have to teleport you to a flanking position?

BTW: is there any way to get something alike to Abrupt Jaunt, i.e. usable as Immediate Action, when you're _not_ a Specialist Conjurer?

You could also snag Hidden Talent for Dimension Hop (CPsi). It comes with 2 PP to spend on it, which means 2/day 10' swift action teleports.

From there, visit the Earth Node (CPsi), or pay the 4500g at character creation for an extra 5 PP. That means you can do 10' teleports as a swift action up to 7 times a day for 1 feat + 4500g. Thats a pretty good deal.

Immediate actions are pretty hard to get though. Eldariel has a homebrew PrC (Epemeral Blade) that lets you take a swift action as an immediate action, which means you could manifest Dimension Hop as an immediate action a few times per day. Thats about all I can think of though.

Thinking of it now, a Dimension Door cape sounds cool. Maybe I'll include that as a special ability for The Wings of Epic Flying.

How do you get 4500GP at character creation, i.e. level 1?

Maybe not everybody creates their characters at level 1? :smallconfused:

Cape of the Mountebank (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#capeoftheMountebank) Dimension Door 1/day CL 9 and 10800 GP.

Knight's Move? No. It transports you two squares forward and 1 to the side. :smallwink:

So times that by 5 and you have at will.

Then it doesn't matter whether you pay the sum at character creation or at any level. You might as well pick up the ability whenever. In this case, I assumed that for the trick to work it would have to be done at character creation, and if this _matters_ it has to be at level 1 even if you start play at level 9.

What are you talking about? I can easily create a 9th level character without first creating a 1st level character. :smallconfused:

In a thread where people are talking about spending tens of thousands of gold pieces, you probably shouldn't assume the characters are level 1. :smallannoyed:

... this is going nowhere. We're clearly talking past each other. Let's just leave it.
