I just realized the genius behind the ending of Marauder.

The final step happened between this Federation and the Imperium: a very State-Centric religious cult.

Fascist-Fundamentalists!! AWESOME!!!

For me, the best thing about Marauder is A Good Day to Die. I did not expect to find such a good/ear-wormy song in a movie such as this. I also liked the power armor and Behemecoatyl (is that how you spell it?). In general, I liked Marauder better than Hero of the Federation, but the original is still the best.

Oh, there are MANY good things about this movie. It's not as good at the 1st, obviously, but it's still entertaining. And yes, "A Good Day to Die" was definetly a great earworm.

I love how they progressed on the Federation's propaganda network, and didn't just rehashed exagerated cacicatures of the first movie, like the 2nd movie did. The 2nd movie was a tad.. obviously evil. The 3rd movie actually make it look good!

I loved how they snuck in the commercialist element in their pieces. How the Sky Marshal is also a Rock Star...

Jolene Blalock was a complete ***** when it came to Starship Captaining. God, was she weak. How many captain do you see can allow to have their crew be so disrespectful of them openly?! Sisko would have hanged Bull by the balls at the first sign of disrespect, and Janeway would have shot him before leaving drydocks.

Thing is, Blalock's character wasn't BAD. She was a good captain, she had good jugement and authority. It's just that they decided to write her crew to be... well, very, very, very, very openly disrespectful, and for no reason.

Robert A. Heinlein is rotating in his grave. :smalltongue: :smallsigh:

Robert A. Heinlein is rotating in his grave.

I loved Heinlein's book. Big time. It's something you cannot go around if you want to know me.

Doesn't mean I won't enjoy all the corniness of the Starship Trooper movie franchise, mkay? It's 2 separate things linked only by the Bug War, a few character names and the title.

Fair points.

I am, however, annoyed that instead of making a honest-to-good adaptation of the novel the film makers decided to make a parody. It's, if anything, dishonest and disrespectful to the Estate of Robert A. Heinlein. (His widow was not pleased, and I'm surprised they were able to make sequels.)

Commercialism was mentioned in this thread, and while Heinlein had his, hurm, certain views on how the world should be like, that wasn't what the book was (mainly) about. In the novel one of his mouthpiece characters cites a French song that stated that the best things in life is for free. The character strongly disagrees that you can get anything for free, but adds that the lyricist probably meant that the best things in life can't be bought with money, which the character agrees with.

I don't agree with Heinlein on everything, especially in Starship Troopers, but he had a point or two there.

I really need to watch this movie. I agree, Good Day To Die is a very awesome song.

The best thing out of starship trooper is still Razack's Roughneck tho.

Personally I only liked the first Starship Troopers. I thought the others were a blatant attempt to squeeze money. They weren't well thought out and didnt have the same grandeur as the first one.

They deserve to be bombed by the bugs. :smallyuk:

They it'd be a good day to die: since they'd know the reason why.
They are citizens, and they'll fight for what is right.
A noble sacrifice, cause when the duty calls, they pay te price.
For the Federation, they will give their lives

For me, this movie made up for the atrocity that was starship troopers 2.

I proclaim starship troopers 2 nonexistent.

The biggest problem with ST2 is, in my opinion, that they've shown no ambiguity, even in their newsreel, if the Federation was simply a well-meaning fascist organisation or just an oppressive gov system.

I mean, up to a level, you can argue that in Starship Trooper 1 and 3, that the Federation may well be fighting for the Human Race's survival and their measure are aimed at making sure we have the best fighting chance against such an overwhelming ennemy. Their fault sterns more out of lack of some foresight rather than outright villany.

In the 2nd movie, it's a lot less ambiguous. They keep hammering that the officers just want their men to die with no purpose. I have a hard time believing Lt Razsckal or Rico actually behaving like that. Where the Federation was shown as harsh but just, in the 2nd movie it's depicted as murderous and malicious.

Not making any argument pro-fascism, just saying that the best flavor, and subtelty of the first and last movie was this question ambiguously left open: is the Federation right?

Well considering they were way outnumbered and more or less outmatched i'd say they were at least trying to be right. Honestly don't see what killing off their own men would achive when the threat of the bugs invaiding earth is out there.
