View Full Version : What does this mean? (computer issue)

Basically whenever I go onto firefox, I get this message at the top of the screen that says "System Update Required - A critical software update is needed for your browser. Click to allow." (a screen shot below for more clarity)

What does this mean? Should I click it? I've done something like this before where I got a message saying I had a virus and need to install antivirus stuff but that turned out to be a virus. Really, it's getting annoying as it won't let me click stuff at the top of a page meaning the some links are difficult or even impossible to click.

Have you upgraded to FF4 yet? I'm guessing that's the issue.

I'm not sure. You think this is it? I really don't want to get another virus and reboot my system...again...for like the third time:smalleek:...I'm not good with technology.

Yup, FF4 came out a few days ago. If you really don't trust the big red link in your browser (and why would you?) grab the update from http://firefox.com yourself instead.

I seriously doubt that you're getting that message because of Firefox 4 (I'm pretty sure it would be presented using a regular "A new version of Firefox is available" dialogue box, simply because to do otherwise would be stupid).

So yeah... it doesn't strike me as a legitimate warning, and even if it was, you wouldn't do any harm by ignoring it and updating Firefox manually instead (Go to Help -> Check for Updates, or just go straight to www.mozilla.com).

agreed, although i wouldn't worry to much about the link because firefox is pretty secure
