A lighter thread than usual:

How would you stat out the character of Wizard of Oz as an adventuring party in Eberron, either in 3.5 or 4e?

Some thoughts: The Tin Man is obviously a Warforged. The Scarecrow might be too, though he could be something else (Empty Vessel? After all he is searching for a brain). The Lion could then be a shifter.

What about Dorothy? I'm thinking that Kansas could be equated with Cyre. In 4e she might have one of those badass Cyre-related epic destinies (Mourning Savior? Or something).

I'm thinking Glinda the Good as Queen Aurala of Aundair, at least one of the Wicked Witches as Vol, and for the Wizard himself, perhaps Merrix d'Cannith (hard to get to, and he can at least give the Tin Man a heart).

So what do you guys think? Any cool ideas?

Queen Aurala is the Wicked Witch of the west. Vol is the wicked Witch of the EAST! Know your geography and personalities. Merrix is DEFINITELY the Wizard.

Scarecrow would probably be a Changeling of the Reality Seeker faction.

You're right about the lion, probably a Longtooth with extra trait in razorclaw

Glinda would be Jaela Daran.

Dorothy would be a human from Oerth or Krynn or Faerun who got whisked away to a strange place and is trying to find her way home.

What about Dark Sun? Nice and dry and flat, just like Kansas!

And yes, how could I have forgotten the loli pope! Though really, we might want to save Jaela for Ozma in the sequel.

The Wizard of Oz is in fact a 1st level artificer using alchemy and potions of ghost sound!

I see a tragic misunderstanding when Dorothy the psionic gladiator falls into Munchkinland Zilargo. On Athas, the short people are cannibals.

But if she's from Dark Sun, why would she want to go home?

The 4E MM III has stats for scarecrows as monsters.

And they were in a 3.5 issue of Dragon.

IMO, it's about as mysterious why she would want to go home to Kansas.

Dorothy would be a human from Oerth or Krynn or Faerun who got whisked away to a strange place and is trying to find her way home who got picked up by illithids on a nautiloid and whisked halfway across the phlogiston before managing to escape and jettison an escape pod to land on Eberron - this pod being the one that lands on the Wicked Witch in the Talenta Plains and squishes her flat.

Fixed that for you. A lot. Also: SPELLJAMMER! (Insert :Metal: icon here)

You may be able to add some additional elements to each of these characters by focusing on what they "needed" in the film and actually translating it into real desires/fears.

The Scarecrow: While one could go with him wanting a brain to mean he has an intelligence penalty you could have that translate into having no idea of his identity. Without purpose he might be lost in a sea of existentialism. A factotum/chameleon might be a fun support character who switches roles every day in an attempt to find which one suits him.

The Lion: Shifter is a good idea here but simply tacking on fear might become to easy. Instead you could play around with the idea of the shifter having been a 'guerrilla forces' type warrior who is suffering from PTSD. This could even evolve into him not being able to handle his anxiety and explode into rage. A shifter barbarian/frenzied beserker could do well if done right.

The Tin Man: Warforged is perfect and this character can actually be made really interesting. Searching for a heart may be his desire to overcome his in-born apathy, and serve as a proper form of catharsis for him to mourn not only his comrades lost in battle but the enemies he was forced to kill without reason or thought. A Warforged fighter (dungeoncrasher acf?) may be able to handle such a concept.

No, she would squish VOL (wicked witch of the east) Also, the only good thing to come out of spelljammer was the Bionoid (aka The Guyver in D&D)

Pff, the Scro and Giff are awesome products of Spelljammer, plus the Spelljammers themselves. Spelljammer is the classic cross-campaign setting, even more so than Sigil was, at least in my opinion.
braces self for Planescape fanatics...
