So, let's do this.

First poll: King or Queen?

...Then we go from there...!

Let's go Queen. Maybe up the ear-pointiness to make her an elf.

King! Give him a stereotypical beard and gray hair.

...Is this it? Hmmm

Edit: I know, it's saturday and other people have lives. I, however, wants to play my new game.

Let's see what we can find here in the Kingdom of Avilan!

Oh and the intro was interesting. Very well done, and I am apparently playing god for real. The intro explains how I decided to take a direct hand in things when the people who believe in me screwed up too much.

Okay, Let's get started.

Welcome to the Kingdom Avelonia!

Elf ears are not available... Unfortunately. And I apologize; I started playing without closing the voting. There was a majority for a male ruler when I started, so...

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-37.jpg
This is our new King: Avilan Grey. At old age he has acquired some girth, but he has muscles beneath the fat and can kick anyone's behind.
He is Friendly, and Good, but unfortunately he is a ladies man. He just can't help flirting (or worse) with anything from noblewomen to barmaids...

We start out with the Tutorial Quest, If You Build Them (they will come).

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-38.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-39.jpg
Our first job as king is apparently to look good, since we have an urge to gussy up in the mirror before talking to our adviser... We DO look good, though!
Turns out that it was a good idea, that whole mirror business. She's pretty cute!

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-40.jpg
Next we talk to the Master Builder to start expanding this lovely little town. He tells me he needs stone and wood, and unfortunately we can't afford any servants. So We have to go and shop wood!

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-44.jpg
When We get to the woods our wood-shopping gets interrupted by a bandit. We challenge the ruffian to a duel, but it doesn't start too well...

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-45.jpg
...Soon, however We best the Beast and let him limp off after teaching him a lesson.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-48.jpg
After shopping a number of trees all by Ourselves, we are off to the local cave to find stone. Outside the grave digger has decided to place the town's graveyard. Unfortunately it seems too small and We have to stand on corpses while talking to him. He suggests We should commission a church as soon as possible so the dead can be handled with more dignity. It sounds like a good idea to Us.

Fetching the actual stones is very easy work and We even discover some treasure worth 125 Simolians!

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-50.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-51.jpg
On the way back to the castle We are petitioned by a peasant woman who has been abused by the town bully. We promise to do something about this but We are starving, and has to go home and eat.
Again, the lack of servants are irritating and We have to cook our own fowl soup!

In Sims Medieval you only have two needs: Food and Energy.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-56.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-60.jpg
The next day we seach out this bully in the town square. We haven't actually BUILT the town yet, but anyway...
We immediately sentience him to the stocks, and after the sheriff marches him away, We decide to follow and throw some eggs on this despicable ruffian.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-61.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-65.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Screenshot-67.jpg
After going home to the castle again and having some more soup, we run across a beautiful travelling merchant. We soon exchange gifts and pleasantries and um... more.

After this we get a message from the Building Master who wants to know what to build next... I might have to think about this!

Okay... What to build next??

We can build:
Mage Tower
Clinic
Tavern
Market
Barracks
Church*
Monastery*

*This is special in this game. The two buildings are for two different religions! The church's priests are of the fire and brimstone kind, with very oppressive ideals. The monastery promotes a different religion, that preaches love and understanding above all else.

Mage tower

Deme

I agree with mage tower. Also, elf ears are totally an option. The "head and ears" settings allow you to mess with "ear pointiness," thus creating elf ears.

While I can appreciate having a batman wizard at our side ASAP, as much as any other D&Der, I also generally recognize that the best early game strategies, usually involve making lots of money first to make kingdom grow fast.

As such: Marketplace first. Mage Tower later.

Avilan the Grey

Okay, so I am really blind then (I missed the pointy ear option).

Anyway... Market. That means a Merchant Hero.
Any ideas?

Please note, of course, that all heroes are individuals. Just because the Head Honcho is a benevolent and nice man doesn't mean everyone has to be.

In Sims Medieval you choose two traits and one flaw:

I am Roberto Williams. Trader extraordinare!
...Although right now I am competing in a fishing competition.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-3.jpg
Turns out I had to apply to join the competition at the castle. The Royal Advisor was kind enough to talk to me and quite frankly she was not only cute, but a fool.
I soon talked her into letting me enter for free, instead of paying 100 simolions!

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-3.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-6.jpg
The morning after I run into the Druidess at my market stand. I can't believe they let her walk around half naked, but I am not really complaining. I butter her up quite good and she buys some of my crap.
Then it's off fishing! I catch a huge swordfish, but that's apparently not enough to win this thing.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-10.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-11.jpg
After bringing two sailors I get a valuable tip: The magic half-ton lobster! Apparently if you are COMPLETELY miserable when fishing, it gives itself as a boon to cheer you up.
...Turns out that it works! I win! I WIN! Now off scamming customers...!

Since it's late afternoon here and sunday morning for the majority of you guys I went forward... and built a Wizard's Tower. Meet Edmunda Blackadder, Evil Wizard! Oh and the Gluttonous trait means that you van never fill the hunger bar more than 80 percent. Roberto was hungry all the time!

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-12.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-13.jpg

My name is Edmunda Blackadder. I have been called by King Avilan to serve as the local Wizard of the land.
I am a Scolar of Evil, and Cruel to those who oppose me. Or irritate me. Or stands ahead of me in the line to the outhouse.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-16.jpg
Two days ago when I was searching for herbs in the forest, I ran across an Evil Witch. My duty is to warn the kingdom of this so I left the forest and went to the King himself. Unfortunately he did not believe me.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-17.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-19.jpg
Later I ran across the witch in the town square. I decided to get to the root of the problem right there and gave her a good thrashing. Unfortunately that didn't make her leave.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-23.jpg
When I got back home she had somehow got inside my tower. I threatened her but all she did was to laugh at me and let herself out.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-25.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-26.jpg
I realized she was much stronger than me so I had to do some serious research!
I started with meditating all night, and then I started scrying the dark thome for answers.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-27.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-29.jpg
Yesterday I thought I had the answer and confronted her. She was very close to killing me and I had to run and hide in the forest. This morning, when I emerged again she had left. *Phew!*

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-30.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-33.jpg

I decided to go for the big guns and went to the graveyard and summoned the spirits of the dead to form them into a weapon. Then I rushed home and forged the spirits into a spell called a Magic Arrow.
When I was at it I also memorized the spells Curse and Spirit Thief. Nice spells that makes the victim suffer in a myriad of ways.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-34.jpg
...Now I am at the main square and confronts the Witch once and for all. Unfortunately my skill with this spell is not the greatest and I might have to try several times before I destroy her ability to use magic.

It took me 12 tries before the Magic Arrow spell to not fizzle... But finally the Evil Witch was driven away, no longer able to use magic.

This little adventure earned us the big Reception Hall for the Castle for free.

Okay, decision time again: I have not enough points to build something new, so for now we have three heroes: The King Avilan, The Merchant Roberto, and the Wizard Edmunda.

Who will do the next quest?

Thanatos 51-50
2011-03-27, 12:11 PM
The King should do the next quest! And he should totally start building a Tavern! So he can hit on the barmaids!
... And we can have a Hot Elf tavernkeeper.

Of course. Her slaying of the evil witch provided a portion of the generous funding of the Fire & Brimstone Church's construction. She is clearly a saint of some sort. The official Fire & Brimstone Patron Saint of Evil Sorcery, perhaps? That has a nice ring to it.

"You need to brew the sample mulled wine in The Sims Medieval Cursed Nurse Quest. Try clicking on the brew keg, it should tell you what is needed to make the sample mulled wine in The Sims Medieval. Good luck!"

Or this:

"The recipe is in your inventory..its a green book you just click to learn about it ...then you have to gather the recipe and make it "

This is the correct quest, but the next step. The King has not yet recieved the book; this is the step before that when he is supposed to try to brew the wine from memory... And I haven't found anything about that.

Incidentally, no gaming progress today. Forgot to set my alarm, so I ended up late at work instead... yay.

I'll update this officially tomorrow, I think this will be a "updates guaranteed on sunday afternoons but erratic otherwise Lets Play". I think I have figured it out, but we'll see.

The problem is that the game is really good at (over)explaining certain things, and then all of a sudden leaves you hanging with a "Now do this" with no explanation in the middle of things.

Ah, here we go... a King's Quest (tm)

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-35.jpg

Let's see what the king is doing, shall we?

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-36.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-38.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-42.jpg

We woke up this morning and decided that enough is enough. We need a vacation! Our royal advisor might know of a good place for one!
...Besides, she's really hot and We have been trying to get her attention for some time now.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-43.jpg

Anyway, where were we? Ah! Yes, ask about vacation spots!
She tells me of a small village famous for it's beer and whine, and of a large town that has all you need for a big city vacation. She doesn't know more than that though so We are forced to go out and find more information.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-44.jpg

The useless merchant, Roberto, really appreciates the village in question and strongly recommends it.
Since We for some reason need to ask two people in town about how good living in Avelonia is, We take my chance and ask that, too.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-45.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-46.jpg

We are in luck though, the next person walking by is the very good looking town crier. She really enjoys the big city life, apparently, and tries to talk Us into going there, instead.

When We ask if she would like to show us her ankle, however, she tells Us off. How rude!

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-49.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-50.jpg

We decide to travel to the small village and instantly fall in love with their ale.
Back at home we send a pigeon requesting to get their secrets but it will take a while. We will try to make it ourselves in the meantime.

There was another patch last night, and it resets quests.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-52.jpg

We woke up this morning deciding that enough is enough. We also had a strange feeling of Deja Vu. Odd as it were, we decided to go on and take a little vacation. After taking care of business, of course...

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-53.jpg

Our fine and trusty royal advisor told me of two spots to go to; but she didn't know anything about them, really.
After bedding her, We found the royal architect in the throne room. We didn't even know we had one!
Anyway, We quickly befriended him and asked him what he knew of the small village. He was very pleased with it and strongly recommended it for it's breweries alone.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-54.jpg

Before going out to ask the populace what they think of Our kingdom, We felt we needed a bath.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-56.jpg

One of the servant girls were catching our fancy, but We did not have time to pursue her just yet. Instead We merely inquired how she enjoyed Avelonia.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-57.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-58.jpg

Going out on the town I immediately saw the town crier. She is a very pretty girl and figured I kill three flies with one stone.
First I asked her about her feelings about Avelonia, then about the big city. She really enjoyed it and strongly urged Us to go there.
We also decided to pursue her romantically but a small voice in the back of Our head warned about trying to make her show Us her ankles, and lo and behold it worked. We were soon making out right in front the executioner's pit.

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-59.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-60.jpg

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/Avilan2010/Medieval/Screenshot-61.jpg

Coming back from the big city, and having attended the great tournament, We were really excited. We also realized they knew some secrets about steel-making and sent a dove with a request to share their knowledge.
While waiting for the dove to return, We got the urge to spare with a practice dummy.

...The sad thing is We do not have any. There are in fact not a single one in the village; We have not built any barracks yet.

Oh well in the meantime We decide to just go and open up the court for petitions.

Okay, it seems we are about halfway through this quest. Again.
A church will be built after this quest if we can afford it.

I need your help deciding two things:

Are we building the Cathedral or the Monestary? You can have both, but they are of two different religions, and the Cathedral is a much more "Fire and Brimstone" one.

Also, Give me the traits and flaws and other ideas for the priest or monk?

Gecks
2011-04-04, 06:24 AM
I want to like the monestary priests more, but after playing both I find the Cathedral more fun and interesting, so I vote for that.

For traits, I think the Priest should be excitable, and his/her parents should have been killed by a whale.

For fatal flaws, in my kingdom it is an iron law that every priest must be either a letcher or a drunk, so I vote for one of those two.

Good LP so far!

I can't believe I missed this.:smallfrown: I say go for the church. In my experience the Monastary quests are lame, and in at least one case, not necessarily good.

Monks lack the qualifications to perform a proper witch-burning. In fact, I don't think they really even care about witches at all.

We are in luck though, the next person walking by is the very good looking town crier. She really enjoys the big city life, apparently, and tries to talk Us into going there, instead.

When We ask if she would like to show us her ankle, however, she tells Us off. How rude!

Um, not to interrupt your flirting, your majesty, but it appears that young man standing behind you is about to commit sepukku. Do you intend to do something about that?

Good eye, Mewtarthio, I didn't notice he had a picture of seppuku.

That's of no concern; it's from the "Dream" We had (before the quest reset).

Hello all...
As you might expect this is not going anywhere.

The reason is simple: Although this game is quite fun, it is nowhere near as fun as regular Sims 3. This means that everytime I have tried to get back to this, it has felt like a shore, and quite frankly life is too full of shores anyway.

However, as you might or might not know, I have ordered FO New Vegas. That i know I will play.

Anyone interested?
