'Creative' uses of Planar Binding (3.5e)

One of my party members is a non-native elemental.

If he is hit by a dismissal or banishment (and fails his saving throw), can I cast Planar Binding to call him back, and then give him some inane or obscure task (i.e. jump ten times in the same square while scratching your butt) as a matter of formality to keep him?

Alternatively, any task would also work, since it seems all he have to do is to not inform me, but 'accidents' do happen.

Absolutely, assuming he is within the HD limit. You don't even have to set a task for him. Just don't use a magic circle.

I recommend that your fellow party member ask the DM about taking the spelltouched feat "Naturalized Denizen," from Unearthed Arcana. Just spend a week casting Dimensional Anchor on him over and over again until he gets the message.
