I recently rediscovered my old (old old old) copy of the original Fallout PC game. After having a **** tonne of fun with it, I decided to make a Let's Play of this absolute classic.

I've never made an LP before, and frankly I'm not entirely sure of what to do, so that decision was promptly abandoned in favour of spinning a tale in a Let's Play-esque format - I.e, telling a story through the medium of the game, but keeping to a somewhat strict narration - essentially I'll play through the game and react to whatever events occur as they happen, but I'll have the choices which our protagonist will make set in mind for the whole game.

I'll try to make this as non-fan friendly as possible - meaning that if you've never played Fallout before, or have only played the latter installations (Three and New Vegas, specifically) you'll still be able to get at least some enjoyment out of it.

Thus, some backstory to the game - Essentially, the water chip in Vault Thirteen has malfunctioned, and the vault only has 150 days worth of water left in reserve. Unless a new water chip can be acquired, the entire vault will perish. Thus one individual must set out, alone, into a previously unexplored wasteland, so as to save his people. The dangers will be great, and many, the chances of survival slim.

That said, here is a copy of our hero's character sheet; his SPECIAL Stats and Skills:

In order to see if the stats reflected the personality, I caught up with our hero before he set off on his mighty quest:

Mikhail: So, tell me Eugene, how did you come to be chosen for such a dangerous quest?

Eugene, a handsome, strong looking individual, emits an aura of charisma as he replies: Well... My bad luck as usual, I guess. The Overseer asked everyone between the ages of sixteen and twenty five to draw straws. I wound up lacerating his hand with mine, through no fault of my own! The stupid thing had really sharp edges... Anyway, that really annoyed him, so he just started shouting and told me that I had to get the **** out and get the water chip regardless of what size the ****ing straw was. Which was fair really, since it turned out I had drawn the shortest one anyway, but whatever. At least they were nice enough to give me directions to the nearest vault.

Mikhail: Wow, fascinating. Well, I wish you the best of luck on your adventure, I'm sure I'll catch up with you for another interview soon!

Eugene: Best of luck, hah! And they call me the sarcastic one...

Thus Begins the Tale of Eugene
Unfortunate Badass from Vault Thirteen

And thus, the first act of our hero is... To run bravely away from a rat.

It is possible to totally avoid combat in a post apocalyptic wasteland people!

Or... Perhaps not, as a brother to the previous rat suddenly, and without any semblance of warning, attacks!

Fret not, however, fine people! For our hero, calm and collected as he is, wastes the rat with a single shot of his 10mm pistol with a sneer and a quip;

'Say Cheese'

His adversary dispatched, our hero promptly legs it to the opening of the cave, witnessing the beauty of nature and true, natural light for the first time...

Well, natural light anyway. The world is a nuclear wasteland. But still, a natural wasteland

This screen allows us to move around the world freely, from location to location, harassed only by random encounters with terrifying mutants and heavily armed raiders.

For now, we head to Vault 15, the closest vault which may possess a working water chip.

En route however, Eugene discovers a new location...

His curiousness piqued, he decides to explore the new town...

A town! Called Shady Sands!

How will the adventurer react to the only other civilisation which he has ever seen in his life?

Find out, next time!

Perception 1? Guessing you're not intending on making him a sniper, then... :smallwink:

You didn't want the game's one Int 10-only bit of dialog, Mikhailangelo?

Good grief, the man is almost blind, and you tagged small guns for him? You evil, evil person. Looking forward to how you're going to deal with the situations where avoiding combat is not that easy. :smallwink:

Agility 8? Are you suicidal? And if that's not enough, one of your traits is Skilled.

Well, hope you never ever get into combat.

Since it's a week since Mikhailangelo said the next instalment would be up "tonight", I think this may have gone down the tubes...
