The City of Scottsburgh: formerly a den of sin and scandal, a slap to the face of good, American values. Nowadays, however... Well, it's a work in progress. The appearance of its several patron superheroes has helped the situation, but the streets are still rife with crime and extortion. And that's not even figuring the occasional supervillain into the equation. They sometimes appear through the quite-active Mafia, sometimes from a solar dome in orbit, sometimes from the living earth the city is built on. It's a big job for the city's various vigilantes to undertake, and often the job of cleaning up the streets becomes much more complicated than a simple "bash in the baddies' heads and drag 'em to the morgue and/or prison." Sure, the heroes have a modicum of backing from the city's police force, but the cops tend to struggle with the heroes as much as the villains: collateral damage takes quite a bit of taxpayer money to repair, and the Steel Sentinel's missiles, for example, cause a lot of collateral damage.

Then there's the PR. Heroes are generally regarded as helpful, and most citizens are overjoyed that there are guardian angels out there protecting their homes and businesses, but sometimes you just can't get past appearances. The Steel Sentinel scares most people as much as any armored military tank roaming the streets would, but he generally has the greatest trust, as he was the first of this generation of heroes to come to Scottsburgh. The Shadow is marked with wariness and a bit of distrust; people fear what they cannot see and do not know. The Sphinx is just as mysterious, and much newer to the city. Several local churches have even protested his intervention, claiming that he spreads heretic icons and corrupted values to the youth of Scottsburgh with his mysticism. Of course, citizens are cautious when dealing with Seth. Who knows where he is from, or if his race is peaceful? For all the people know, he could be the advance scout of an invasion force. And then there's the Scarlet Ray, a villain-of-sorts turned hero... Most people still haven't decided that he is sincere. And Stunt, a greek-styled warrior. There aren't too many complaints about him, except that he has been known to go into berserk fits of rage from time to time.

That's not to say that the heroes are hated; on the contrary, they have loyal fans and hordes of supporters. The people of Scottsburgh have simply lived in a place where, if you trust someone, it could get you killed. Most of them simply have not yet realized that the heroes are on their side.

The life of a superhero can be a hard one, especially for the humans who's lives are either a peaceful nation on the rural grounds, a futile war where they can't survive a simple bullet wound, or a city where they are helpless to the dangers that inhabit it. All three are different from what Sethnidus lived with. He had the strength to fight those dangers and the durability to survive such fights. While he might not have cared for the planet considering the mostly weak inhabitants compared to him, he was no less an inhabitant himself, though he had yet to earn official citizenship. Sethnidus followed the rules that the Enscro followed, which he accomplish by saving people from those that endangered them; it didn't take long before the Enscro captain was known as a superhero. It was a bit awkward at first but he got used to it, and eventually grew to like it.

Today was a normal day for Sethnidus, he was taking his time returning from the hills nearby the city. He prefered the hills because of it's cleaner air and quiet sounds, allowing him to focus and practice in times of peace; he usually was not one to stand around. He tried to stay away from plain sight due to being a different species, but he greatly appreciated those who liked him and didn't mind his looks; some children surprisingly looked up to him, Sethnidus didn't know why, might have been the red cape.

The Shadow

It was a typical night for Duke Rizzo. An enforcer for one of Scottsburgh's Mafia families, the man spent a good number of his evenings making sure various businesses paid their protection money. Those that didn't...well. That was what this night was for.

The shopkeeper was dragged out of the car by the two other members of his team; the man was crying, weeping. Begging and pleading for another week, for another chance. But I have a family, he said.

"They'll recover."

Duke lit his match on the cement-filled cinderblock the man's feet were placed in. He was a traditionalist at heart; if he could, the enforcer would wear period suits and fire Tommy guns all day long. Throwing victims off the old Kirby Bridge had been done for over 80 years, and Duke saw no reason why it shouldn't continue.

"Bye-bye..."

And then came the laugh. It billowed and echoed around the bridge's girders, making it impossible to pinpoint any location. It was a deep laugh, with overtones of sadism; it promised pain and a profound enjoyment in the acts that were soon to follow.

"The Shadow..." the shopkeeper murmured. "He's here."

"Shut up. Lenny, Gio, spread out. It's probably just some jokster with a stereo."

The three men drew their weapons, eyes searching along the length of the deserted bridge. Their footsteps the only sound the three heard; the streetlights islands of light in the fog-filled dark.

"You murdered a policeman...Duke."

A muffled scream; and the footsteps of one of Duke's men falls silent.

"Who said that?"

Their eyes flicker from side to side. Trying to find a target. Trying to find the Shadow. They move much slower now.

"Did you think you'd get away with it?"

A feather-light brush past Duke's ear; he spins around, a beefy hand coming up to swat at the sensation. He encounters no resistance; feels nothing but air.

"Did you think I wouldn't know? The Weed of Crime bears bitter fruit."

Duke's remaining man opens fire, pulling the trigger as hard and in as many directions as he can, until his magazine is empty...and then continuing to pull the trigger.

"Reload. Reload, you damn idiot."

Duke finds that it's hard for him to speak; the dread that now fills his lungs prevents him from being any louder than a whisper.

"You committed murder, Duke. And now you're going to confess."

"Like hell I will."

Duke sees a flicker of motion in the corner of his eye, fires. One of the streetlights shatters. And still no sign of The Shadow.

"You will, Duke. Because if you don't, I'll be there."

His other henchman screams, this time, as The Shadow, still unseen, still invisible, knocks him out-painfully.

"I'll be there. Around every corner, and inside every empty room, as inevitable as your guilty conscience."

Duke empties his clip, shooting blind. His heart races in his chest as he does so; he backs up, a step for every shot, until he can feel the wall behind him.

But it doesn't help him. The Shadow, still unseen, slams him into that wall, and as the shock of the impact causes the enforcer to see stars, drags him to the edge of the bridge.

"You will go to the Eighth Precinct. And you will turn yourself in. Now."

"Alright! I'll do it! I'll confess! Please! I don't want to die!"

Duke is flung onto the pavement; he scrambles to his feet, and starts running, as fast as he can. He only turns back once, and only then does he see The Shadow.

The Shadow was a tall man, tall and whipcord thin, dressed in a long black coat belted at the waist. He wore a black opera cloak with a dark red lining; the collar of the cloak was turned up, framing the scarf that covered the lower half of his face in that same deep red. A beak-like nose protruded above the scarf, and the Shadow’s dark eyes were narrowed in fury. A black fedora, it’s brim far wider than it should be almost completed the outfit. For Duke’s gaze was drawn to the two polished silver pistols that the Shadow wore from shoulder holsters, the black leather straps crossing over the man’s chest.

“Run Duke. And remember. The Shadow knows. The Shadow always knows. Run.”

WALT MATHIS: City Streets, Legal District

The streets of Scottsburgh were dangerous, even to someone with the wisdom of the ages and the knowledge of magic. The thugs that accosted the public were often armed, and certainly brutal products of it's streets, not the kind for talking over differences or coming to peaceful understandings. More and more, Walt had come to appreciate his training in martial arts, as it was certainly helping to keep him alive. The gods demanded his intervention in the city's criminal affairs, but did little to keep him safe in such an environment.

More to the immediate point, Walt was nearly out of money. He had no experience with job hunting, as he was handed the only job he ever had by his father. His resume skills were somewhat lacking, as he couldn't site his job with his father for fear of the company alerting his father to his location, and, on paper, he was a college drop out with no job experience. He had just left his third attempt at a job interview, sure that he was not to be employed at the law firm Conner and Conner either. He had thought about using his powers to influence the interview, but worried that the Gods would take offense to that use of their gifts. Still, he had to eat, and pay rent, and both were going to be hard without a job. To the papers, the Sphinx was a mysterious, and possibly satanic, new vigilante. At the moment, Walt's life was much less glamorous.

The Scarlet Ray

When it comes right down to it, the surface world is hardly the most hospitable place, even for a mighty Magman of Magmaria. The sewers, however, are far worse. Deep in the bowels of any city, the refuse and waste of surface life simply trickles ever downwards, making its way to the deep pits leading to the center of the Earth. And sometimes, the things that live in those pits stir.

The sewers of Scottsburgh city are no exception.

Marcus of Magmaria sat down on the corpse of the crocodile he had just finished beating soundly and permitted himself a great victory laugh. Even one of those fearsome saurian rulers of the Nile was no match for a Magman wearing a power belt. Perhaps it would make a good dinner, once he had dragged it back to his underground lair and reduced it to the traditional ultra-dehydrated fare of his people, served with his prized mantle mushrooms. He could never understand how the surfacers would simply eat anything that they set on fire. It reeked of barbarism, the kind of savagery exhibited by the cunning Underbeasts.

As he hefted the great beast over his shoulder, Marcus realized that it had been nearly three months since he'd last deigned to mingle with the strange surfacers, spending most of his time under the thin crusts of what he surfacers called "roads", within the sewer system, which was their meager excuse for "tunnels". Magmarian tunnels were not so covered in filth and refuse! Truly, the surfacers had no sense of decorum and dignity. Granted, in all the time he had spent in these tunnels, Marcus had yet to see more than one surfacer venture underground.

Making his way slowly back to his high-tech living space, Marcus resolved to visit the surface more often, and perhaps try to instill in the barbarous surfacers some hint of civilization.

James Richards sits at his desk, his fingers flying over the keys of his computer. As much as he enjoys the thrill of walking the streets as the Steel Sentinel, the simple fact is that for every minute he is able to do so he spends two hours performing maintenance, monitoring the city's information feeds and, when necessary, even doing a little bit of contract work to pay the bills. The one benefit, he muses, of being a highly respected, experienced engineer is that when he does need to set to doing mundane work, he gets very well paid for it. Indeed, he's currently putting the finishing touches on the design for yet another automated assembly line and is quite looking forwards to another few weeks of independence. As he saves the file and prepares to forward it to his current client, he notices a small icon flashing on the bottom of his monitor. What's this, a priority alert? He presses another button, and suddenly his monitor is displaying a bewildering array of news stories, police reports and radio feeds. Ah, Doctor Akula has escaped from prison. Faster than usual, but he'll need some time to get set up. This should be good... With that, the engineer hurriedly finishes his work, then stands up and walks to the workshop. Yes, it looks like an exciting time ahead. The Steel Sentinel will need to be at his finest... With that, Richards puts on his safety apron and picks up a screwdriver. You've got to get the work out of the way before you go out to play...

A few hours later, his work is finished and his prized exoskeleton is once again a gleaming pinnacle of martial engineering. With almost reverent care he replaces the last access panel, then sets his multi-tool on the workbench. After quickly showering and changing into his black undersuit, Richards steps into the Steel Sentinel and initiates the activation process.

Initiating Start-Up...

With a slight whining of motors and hiss of hydraulic systems engaging, the armour slowly closes around him and seals itself.

Sentinel System is now online.

The 'eye' lenses on the front of the battlesuit's helmet flicker on, and the suit shudders as it synchronizes itself to Richards' movements. After a few quick, routine steps and jabs, the Steel Sentinel walks to the large concealed door that serves as the entry and exit for the inhumanly large Superhero, and with the heavy thump of armoured feet sets out to patrol the streets of Scottsburgh.

SETH: City Outskirts, hillside
It was a beautiful day out in the outskirts of Scottsburgh. Seth was far enough that the city's smog cloud was fairly nonexistent, and the sun was shining brightly and warmly on the hero's reptilian skin.
Sethnidus, still quite a distance from the city, noticed a small flash of light from behind him. Upon closer inspection, a flying object of some kind seemed to be closing in fast... At its current trajectory, it looked as if it would crash into the hills, not too far from where he was standing!

THE SHADOW: Kirby Bridge
The shopkeeper in the cement shoes looked up at his savior with a combination of fear and gratitude. "Th-Thank you, Shadow!" he stammered, blubbering over his words. Tears began to roll down his face. "Bless you... Bless you, I'd be..." He gazed down into the murky waters; many bodies had been pulled from the depths in the past. "I owe you my life," he said, beginning to calm down. "Thank you."

WALT MATHIS: City Streets, Legal District
As Walt turned a corner, he noticed a tall figure in the corner of his eye. Not really thinking much of it, he continued walking, but noticed the figure again after a moment. When he turned to look, the figure was gone. As he turned, now wary, to continue walking, the figure appeared directly in his path. Walt recognized it as jackal-headed Anubis, Egyptian god of death and the afterlife. Passers-by paid him no heed, some even phasing through the god's tall frame. Anubis flicked his tall black ears and spoke in the strange tongue. "Walter Mathis, Wielder of the Eye of Thoth, I come on behalf of the gods with a message. A warning of sorts."

MARCUS OF MAGMARIA: City Sewers, Marcus' Home
Although not entirely compatible with Magman technology, Marcus had gotten his hands on a computer system used by the surfacers. It was flashing a light of some sort at him from its stone desk in the corner. Upon investigation, it appeared that somebody had sent him a message that brought up a black window with white text. It looked like a root menu of some sort, and the message read simply "I know where you are from. Halley Park, 9:50 PM."

THE STEEL SENTINEL: City Streets, Rose Street
As the Sentinel approached a more populated area, he heard a group of several civilians to his left cheer, some taking out their phones to take pictures of the armored vigilante. As the Sentinel looked over, his comm system chimed, signaling another priority news message. "Breaking news from the Akula medical clinic," the robotic, feminine voice read from a news website. "Doctor Vladimir Akula was found dead in his recently-closed clinic not more than three hours after his escape from the Scottsburgh Prison for the Criminally Insane. Police found his body during their search for the escaped supervillain and are currently unable to release information on the incident, though murder is suspected. More information may be released after the investigation is concluded."

Making sure no one was paying too much attention to him, Walt quietly cast the spell enabling him to perceive the Landscape of the Mind, allowing him to respond to the messenger without seeming insane to the public.

"I am who you seek, the wielder of the Eye. What is this warning that you bear?"

Anubis replied to Walt's telepathic message verbally. "A man has appeared in the city who would defy me and deny the dead their rite that separates the Ba, the part of the soul tied to the body, separation from it after death. He creates abominations, corpses that walk among the living and feed their Ka, the true soul, with human flesh rather than the food and drink that civilized men consume." The god shook his jackal's head and flexed his powerful, bare shoulders in fury. "I am powerless to stop them, as their souls are sucked from my grasp before I can graft the Ba to the Ka and allow the Akh, the combined soul, to continue its journey. The gods entreat you, Eye-Bearer, to hunt down this necromancer and stop his vile work."

The Steel Sentinel waves to the cheering bystanders, though he continues to walk at his deceptively fast pace, his long powerful strides passing the distance with remarkable speed. Though Richards may not be very good at dealing with people, he does enjoy the acclaim and attention he receives in his superhero persona. He quickly loses his excitement, however, when the news report comes in. Akula... Dead, and so soon? Who could have done this? I have to learn more! With a jolt, the Sentinel speeds his walk to a blisteringly fast run, easily outpacing the cars on the street. The heavy battlesuit moves with remarkable grace and the Sentinel deftly avoids any obstacles in his path, simply jumping over them if need be. Upon arriving at the Akula Clinic, the Sentinel slows down and greets one of the policemen manning the cordon. "Greetings, Officer." The booming voice that emits from the armour's speaker arrays is slightly reminiscent of Richards', but has been modified to e more... Impressive. Realizing that the amplification isn't particularly appropriate, he dials it down to a much more reasonable level and continues. "It would seem that my old nemesis has found a sorry fate. Can you tell me what's happened here?"

THE STEEL SENTINEL: Akula Clinic
The masses of press and news reporters surrounding the taped-off clinic entrance spring into action upon the Steel Sentinel's arrival. Cameras focus and photo flashes go wild. The police manage to hold the sea of reporters at bay.

"Shoulda known that you'd show up, Sentinel," the officer he addressed says, craning his neck to look up at the massive battle suit's face-plate. "Wait here a moment, I'll see if the Sergeant will authorize you." The cop leaves his post out front and comes back a few seconds later with another officer: a large, square-shouldered man, presumably the Sergeant.

"Good to see you, Sentinel," the Sergeant says. He moves to extend a hand to shake, but reconsiders upon eyeing the massive hydraulics driving the hero's metallic arms. "I'm Sergeant Boulder, SPD. I'm afraid we haven't found much regarding Akula's death, but feel free to come inside and take a look. Just don't move anything, it is technically a crime scene. Creep had it coming, though, if you ask me."

Boulder leads Richards into the vampiric doctor's "clinic," though a more accurate descriptor of the place would probably be "abandoned torture chamber" at this point. Sheets cover iron maidens, strange spiked devices, and tubes that were probably used for bloodletting. The doctor's body is still lying on the floor in a puddle of blood, a circular wound around his heart. Boulder takes several plastic baggies and clipboards from a field forensics team and presents them to the Sentinel. "This is the murder weapon," he says, referring to a clear bag containing a wooden stake. "It was straight through his heart, just like in the vampire myths. Curious that someone would actually think to do that... We're about to send it in for prints." He holds out another forensics baggy containing a small piece of torn silver fabric. "This was left at the scene, caught on the door. We'll be sending that in for analysis, too. There are signs of struggle, as well. Scuffed floor, bloodstains. He didn't go down easy. Strangle marks on his throat, fractured skull... Do you have any specific questions for me or my team?"

Walt shook his head. His dealings on the gods' behalf had been against criminals up to now, men that did crimes. Now, he was being told to face a person that made the dead walk. This quite a step up. Still, the deeds sounded vile, and he had made an oath.

"There is no need to thank me," the Shadow rasps. "But one day, I may have need of your services. One day, I may come to you requesting aid."

MARCUS OF MAGMARIA: City Sewers, Marcus' Home

Marcus frowned. It didn't look like he could trace the message back to its source, and at any rate there wasn't that much to go on. He leaned close and tapped the screen, stroking his chin with his other hand.

"What trickery is this?" he mused, glaring at the computer screen. Clearly, the message was not from one of his Magman brethren; the mighty warriors of Magmaria were not given over to encrypted messages and shadowy games.

With a snort, Marcus resolved to meet this mysterious person. Even if it was some kind of nefarious plot against him by whatever enemies he had accrued among the surfacers, there are very few under the roofless sky who can stand against a Magman with his power belt. Marcus stepped into his jumpsuit, tightened his bracers, and once again became the Scarlet Ray.

A few seconds later he was rocketing towards this... "Halley Park".

Seth looks up to the skies to see the object heading to where he last was. In a hurry, he makes his way to where the object might land, and if there was anyone in there, he'll try to catch the object before it crashes into the ground. If he succeeds, he'd save those in the object. If he fails, he'd end up using himself as a cushion for the object to attempt to save the object. Seth braces himself; it would be painful, but the Enscro captain has taken worse, he'd survive through it.

I'd like to use my Withstand Damage feat to add 5 to my Toughness for this situation in exchange for 5 from my Defense bonus in case I need to make a toughness save.

Anubis flicked his ears once again. "The man himself is cloaked by his evil deeds, I sense that some foul magics are at work. He is careless, though, and I have still been able to sense the souls of his 'subjects.' He gathers most of his dead from the morgue on the east end of the city." He bared his teeth and snarled. "Eye-bearer... I want you to send this man's soul to me. I want to tear it asunder. This nation's sense of justice is soft, and will not appease my wrath."

THE SHADOW: Kirby Bridge
The blocks shatter into millions of pieces, freeing the man's feet, though it doesn't look like his shoes can be saved. "Thank you, thank you!" the man says, praising the Shadow's heroism. After a few seconds, however, his face darkens. "But... You've taken out Duke... What if they send another?"

[The shooting stunt worked for the sake of cinematic pulp. Next time, I ask that you make a roll.]

THE SCARLET RAY: Halley Park
An area of green space in the heart of the normally smog-infested city, Halley Park dated back to the construction of the city. Originally, it was Halley farm, a place where the surfacers grew their food (Certainly, anything grown with energy from the sun would be far inferior to the Magman Mantle Mushrooms). Somehow, this farm managed to survive in the center of a city, but once the Halley family finally gave it up, they sold the land to the city for a park.
The park's reputation nowadays is not so good. Muggings, drug deals, the whole nine yards. People usually avoid walking through it by night except in groups, so the place is rather vacant this evening.
From behind where the Ray landed, he hears a female voice. "You're early," she says, half sultry, half threatening. When the Ray looks back, he sees no person. "You can search all night long, you won't find me. Just figure I'll save you some time."

SETH: City Outskirts, Hillside
As the projectile approaches, it becomes clear that it is a small escape pod of unknown make. It is careening toward Seth's location, and Seth likely will not be able to catch it safely at its current speed. It is, however, coming in hard, harder than even a pod using Enscro technology would be able to withstand.
[Roll Grapple to catch it, and roll Toughness as well. The Toughness DC will be much higher if you fail the grapple.]

Marcus raises an eyebrow. "Reveal yourself, nefarious trickster!" he booms, puffing out his chest and attempting to look as impressive as possible. The Steel Sentinel: Akula Clinic

The Sentinel seems taken aback by the grisly scene. He moves to ask the sergeant a question, then seems to stop for a moment. Why would the killer have used a stake? Akula never made it a secret that he wasn't a real vampire... Just a crazy old Russian doctor obsessed with pain. Is this supposed to be some sort of sick joke? The armoured superhero moves to take the bag, then changes his mind yet again and simply hunches down to take a look at it. "Perhaps you're correct that the Doctor deserved his fate, Sergeant, but I'm afraid I can't condone murder and that is clearly what this is." Inside the suit, Richards sets the Sentinel's impressive array of sensors to record every detail of the crime scene. He'll analyze all of this later, when he has more free time, but he doesn't want to miss a single detail. "He was murdered by this wooden stake, you say. That takes a truly impressive amount of force; it was clearly driven directly through the Doctor's clothes and ribcage. I doubt that any normal human could have overpowered Akula and accomplished this... We're clearly dealing with another superhuman." After another short pause as Richards examines the evidence, he continues. "I have no intention of impeding your investigation. I will make my inspection of the scene as quickly as possible and leave you to your work. Anybody who could kill Akula like this is extremely dangerous, Sergeant. I must recommend that you do not attempt to arrest this individual without my assistance. The last thing we need is a superpowered murderer set loose upon your men..."

Walt grimaced at first, the morgue was not a place he wanted to be. But his mood grew considerably more stern at the messenger's last request. "I didn't agree to be your executioner, Guardian of the Dead. I will stop this man's deeds, and return the defiled to their graves, but I will not seek to take his life. You may find the justice of man to be soft, but murder isn't a solution."

He walked into the nearest alley, seeking to be removed from any witnesses on the streets. "I will not kill unless it is to save life, and then only if I have no other choice. If you wanted a killer, then you should have chosen a different servant." He gave one last angry glance at the jackal-headed apparition, before walking completely out of sight.

Once outside of prying eyes, he dismissed his spell, and invoked Mystic Passage, traveling instantly to the rooftops. He made his way to his less than luxurious home, donning the mantle of the Sphinx before checking the internet for the location of city morgue. With his course set, he again used his mystic powers to travel there.

THE SCARLET RAY: Halley Park
"Look, Scarlet. Can I call you Scarlet?" The mysterious woman giggles and reveals herself, stepping out of a tree. She is wearing a close-fitting pink and white latex outfit and a face mask that conceals her identity. Her hair is dyed to match the costume and cut to an angled bob, and her boots add about 5 inches of height to her already tall frame. She has an odd-looking pistol on one hip and a glowing device strapped onto her back that blends in rather naturally with her smooth, streamlined attire. "I want access to Magmaria," she said, getting straight to the point.

THE STEEL SENTINEL: Akula Clinic
"I can't make any promises," Boulder says. "Not all of the force are too fond of your, uh, interventions. We also have no way to get in touch with you. Listen in on our frequencies, I suppose."
The Sentinel notices a smattering of ash on the floor during his search of the area. It looks like it was stepped in during the struggle, but definitely fell from where Richards is currently standing. The forensics team doesn't seem to have found it yet.

THE SPHINX: Outside East-City Morgue
During his search of the morgue's location, Walt had found an interesting news report mentioning missing bodies, stolen from the morgue during the night. No security footage had any record of the thefts.
The East-City morgue is a large, grim-looking brick and concrete building. Although in a less dense area of the city, it is still rather well known for housing unclaimed bodies, dead homeless, and victims of violent crimes. It's the perfect target for a body-snatcher. The morgue appears to be closed at this time; no lights shine from within.

He crosses his arms, giving her a piercing stare. "And besides which, I cannot return to Magmaria, for reasons of my own. If you wish agency, then you must find another path."

STUNT

Picking up an a rusty spada, Stunt makes a motion as if to brush some dust off. As he does so, there is an awful kreening noise as his gauntlets shave away years of misuse from the blade. Now, it gleams brilliantly, more like a prop from his last film than a relic he picked up at an unheard of battlefield. His "spring cleaning" done, the hero grasps the intricately cut ruby that hangs from his neck with one hand and makes a symbol towards the center of the sanctuary with the other.

Tightening all the straps and buckles on his armor, he leaps upward, simultaneously pushing out. With a groan, a massive slab of stone is moved away from the entrance, something no normal man would ever be able to life, or spot, really. Then, with a burst of speed, and a brief flash of crimson energy, Stunt rushes off to his favorite hunting grounds. Moonlighting for the spirits of War was difficult, but at least it was never boring. Always something to do, someone who needed to be roughed up at least a little to bring mankind just a little closer to another Golden Age.

Wandering around the outside of the building, the Sphinx invoked the cloaking powers of the Cloak of Fog in order to remain unseen by onlookers. He then looked for any window to the inside of the building. He knew that he could move himself to any point that he could see.

He also cautiously extended his senses to see if he could detect any lingering magic in the area.

She draws her pistol, which begins to hum, apparently powering up somehow. Her face, visible through a clear faceplate on her white helmet, has changed from friendly but wary to deadly serious. "I'm not taking no for an answer, Scarlet. Now we can talk through this, or I can take the belt off of your corpse." She raises her weapon, aiming it at the Ray.

"I always do, Officer." It's maybe not the most respectful parting remark, but no less true for it.

A few minutes later, the Sentinel bends down, then focuses all of his optical systems on the lone footprint, carefully scanning it into his suit's databanks. When he gets back to base, he'll run it through his databases and online connections to look for a match, but for now there's not much he can do. After getting all the data he can on the crime scene, the Steel Sentinel approaches the Sergeant in charge again. "Thank you for your patience, Officer. I found a footprint your people may be interested in," one of the Battlesuit's armoured limbs points out his discovery as he talks, "over there. Otherwise, I have nothing to add to your investigation for the moment. Good luck, and be careful." With his current tasks exhausted, the Steel Sentinel sets out again on his patrol. He moves at a brisk pace, definitely looking forwards to returning to his base and examining all of the data he's collected.

THE SPHINX: East-City Morgue
Although the Sphinx finds no passwords in his search, his cape accidentally bumps the mouse, waking up the desktop from its electronic slumber. It appears that whoever last used it forgot to log off, presenting the hero with full administrator access. All the records and notes of every corpse are in there, but the security feed appears to be elsewhere.

Downtown Alley
The mugger looks away from his target. He drops the poor man's money, searching wide-eyed for the source of the Shadow's frightening laughter. The man's search is interrupted by a loud crash. His eyes dart over to the alley's entrance and widen at the sight of Stunt. Confronted with two heroes, the man begins backing away and holds his knife feebly out in front. He stumbles a bit and drops it. After a brief pause, his face turns white as a sheet. "No... no no no... Please... all his money is in the wallet. Just let him take it, please..." The mugger who bullied his victim into submission was now the one begging for mercy.
The mugger's target scoops up his wallet and stumbles back to the mouth of the alley, placing himself behind Stunt. "Thank you," he says, gasping with relief. "Get him good!" With that, the man runs off around the corner.

THE STEEL SENTINEL: Akula Clinic
Sergeant Boulder nods. "Thank you for finding that." He turns to the forensics crew. "Roberts! The Sentinel found a footprint over there. Get some photographs." Addressing the hero once more, he gives another respectful nod. "Good luck. I hope you discover something valuable."
Once outside, the mass of press immediately assembles tightly around the taped-off area. "Mr. Sentinel! Steel Sentinel!" they shout hectically, all trying to beat out the others in the pursuit of a story. It doesn't look like he'll be able to get through without answering a few questions. The cop out front shrugs at the armored hero. "I tried my best to keep them calm," he says, appearing rather helpless in this situation.

SETH: City Outskirts, Hillside
The escape pod crashes down, crumpling even Seth's muscular, scaly arms. It--or, more accurately, Sethnidus--crashes into the ground at a great speed, creating a cloud of dust and debris and a crater that obliterates one of the hills. Seth's body seems to have kept the pod relatively intact, though its hull has a rather large crack up the side and the heat shield is still smoldering. There's a slow hiss as the cabin inside begins to calibrate for Earth's atmospheric pressure.
Seth himself is barely hurt from the incredible blow that would have crushed a human into paste. He can dig himself out from under the pod with a degree of ease.
[I somehow misread your save result as 43. The DC was 40, so with a 38 Seth takes a bruise. I was afraid it would end up killing him, how silly of me... Roll another toughness save during your next action against the pod's heat.]

She sidesteps, phasing back into the tree after making her shot.

The crash into Sethnidus knocked the Enscro down almost as if he was a target for the pod, though that was partially his goal. He recovers quickly afterwards, his hard exterior breaking the fall of the pod, and at the same time, any injury that a human would have been obliterated by; the high-speed collision with a inferno-descending pod for him was equal to a normal human getting hit in the gut with a baseball bat. Realizing that the pod was still incredibly hot, Sethnidus quickly started digging himself out, thinking to himself that this was not one of his better ideas; though with the circumstances, he didn't have many other options. He knew that the crash would get people's attention; those who knew Seth was at the hills (especially some other heroes he knew and some who idolized him) would probably be worried about him, likely even coming there to check up on the hero, despite that he was in much better condition then the pod that crashed into him and destroyed the hill.

Thinking back, that was rather foolish of me to attempt that, I figured I'd just be taking non-lethal damage. Oh well, at least Sethnidus looks badass taking that blow like it was nothing :smalltongue:

After cursing her miss, she withdraws herself back into the tree.

Sethnidus brushes off any dust and dirt on his clothing as he examines the pod. His scales were incredibly hot with him been collided with a small capsule that entered Earth's atmosphere way stronger than his Enscro transporting vehicle. Seth decided to wait off from opening the pod right now, instead letting it stabilize with earth's atmosphere, like how Seth did when he crashed on Earth. In the meantime the Enscro captain got to his injury that he received from the pod smashing into him. A second look surprised Seth how the crater completely replaced the hill. He was amazed he took but a bare bruise with a landing like that. It was one of those things though that showed why Sethnidus was captain of the Enscro. He could only imagine the newspapers when they see this; "Reptilian Superhero Selflessly Saves Alien Life with Body!"

It almost looked like an insectoid creature, like the insects he saw around Earth. It was similar to the Enscro captain as well, who had seen much smaller lizards and reptiles, who he had thought were just born. His conclusion to them now though was that they're a pre-evolved species compared to the Enscro; it was a bothering conclusion but it was what he decided on. As the creature in the pod started to become more clearer, Seth stayed around 5 feet from the pod, being aware that he does not know what this creature is. Seth made a small smirk of confidence at the Quorat's apology. "Do not think much of it; the Enscro are tough enough for feats most other races would break under, this is but a scratch. I do admit most others of my race would get crushed attempting to save the pod through using their own body, but that's what made me stand out to them as a hero, strong, practically fused with an adamantite body, and have a bit of luck on my side." He reached out a hand to Briggoth, to help him climb out of the pod.

"My world is described by most races as a 'gladiatorial hell', and it would be accurate. We Enscro lived by relying on one another, to the end if it came. I don't plan to change that ideal, even on a more peaceful planet such as this." He paused for a moment again. "Most humans here are actually quite pleasent compared to the monsters who were not Enscro on my own planet. They are a bit... protective of Earth; I myself was shot down like you were to this place, but I had prepared well for a more preferable landing." He cleared his throat. "Apologies, I have been known a bit to talk a lot among other aliens."

Briggoth has completed his disconnection from life support and begins to use his four arms to pull himself out of the damaged pod. "Hm. Protective, you say..." Briggoth's eyes glaze over as if the four-armed alien were thinking very, very carefully. "Perhaps... Well, nevermind. Contained within my pod is a small matter collapser, you may want to stand back." The Quorat gingerly works the controls inside his pod and steps away. "3... 2... 1..." There is a loud crack, similar to that of a Tesla coil, and a dome structure, about 20 feet in diameter, appears around the pod. There is a metallic door in the front, which he approaches. "I need to work on getting my comm system back online, Sethnidus. If you feel the need to contact me, I shall be here. For now, though, farewell, and thank you for saving my life."

Seth views the done that suddenly appeared from the pod. These Quorat's seemed to be at a level of technology higher than Humans or Enscros. "You are welcome. I'll wish you the best of luck then Briggoth..." He paused to think for a moment. "Actually, I should be warning you; the humans might want to investigate this area because your pod crashed here. When I crashed, I had trouble just trying to communicate with the humans, and a battle almost ensued between them and me had another protector come to quell the aggressive tension. He took a look at the city to see if anyone was coming. "Briggoth, I'd like to stay nearby the dome in the case anyone else comes; I can communicate with them, understand them. I'd rather avoid a conflict between you and humans due to a misunderstanding, if you do not mind."

He's wasting his time trying to defeat my security with a machine as primitive as that, superpowers or not. It looks like my virus is in place, and this one doesn't seem the type to notice silly little things like his hardware being infiltrated. Again, arrogance proves the undoing of the criminal... Richards quickly finishes up his coffee then stands up, buys a muffin for the road (sleuthing is hungry work) and sets out for his base. This murderous child will soon be dealing with the full might of the Steel Sentinel.

When he gets back home, the tasty muffin delightedly devoured, Richards immediately slips into his interface suit and uploads the tracking data sent by the virus into the Steel Sentinel armour, then enters it himself and activates it. As the motors begin to whirr and the hydraulics hiss, the Steel Sentinel sets out to bring a criminal to justice.

Technopath: A combination of technology and empath. Refers to an individual who can communicate with technology directly, often using their mind. As far as I know, not a real word.

Yeah, I'm aware that Richards is being a bit of a hypocrite here, chastising criminals for being arrogant while himself dismissing his opponents attempts as futile. I can't thank you enough." Despite Marcus' sub-par skills of perception, he can hear the sarcasm dripping viscously and viciously from her words. She activates her suit's helmet once again. "Did I say friend? I meant trusting chump. Here's a tip: Never underestimate we 'savage surfacers.' If I need anything ever again," she pauses to giggle, "I know where to find you." With a sly smile, she dives into the wall headfirst, phasing through into the labyrinth of the Scottsburgh sewers.

THE STEEL SENTINEL: The Teenage Technopath's Trail
While he does manage to time his attack to minimize the number of bystanders in the area, the Steel Sentinel is anything but subtle. The armoured behemoth closes the gap with his young quarry with blinding speed rather than attempting to skulk or hide. "I have evidence linking you to the murder of Vladimir Akula! Surrender now, and this need not become violent!" The Sentinel's voice blares from the loudspeakers, so even if by some miracle the technopath hadn't seen him by now he's certainly aware.

If I'm capable of closing the distance before he acts, or otherwise, I'll attempt to Grapple him so that I can haul him in. Only if he really starts fighting back will I actually start throwing attacks around.

Marcus of Magmaria lets loose a peal of laughter. "These surfacer savages have an animal cunning I have not foreseen!" he remarks to himself. "I must remember not to be so trusting in the future."

He considers the wall the Wraith has disappeared into. "I may have to find a new place to put my belongings. Also: must remember to retrieve that sonic generator. But for now, food!"

With that he sits down to his dinner, foolishly unfazed by the turns this night has taken.

It's hard to tell where the Sentinel is looking, thanks to the suit's emotionless faceplate and inanimate eye-lenses, but the teenager gets the impression that the armoured superhero is staring at him. "I do not recommend you try to avoid this. You will not escape me, and the police will look much less kindly upon you if you do not do this willingly."
