perhaps im just not understanding how spells are written, which is quite possible

but looking at hypnotism as an example...would that affect party members as well?

does it need to say in a spell whether it does/does not affect party members/allies or is it assumed it does not unless otherwise stated?

thanks for the help

In general, all spells effect everyone.

You need to note things such as the spells range and area of effect.

Hypnotism has a close range and can effect a random hd of creatures. So it can effect everyone.

For course, you'd want to cast this spell away from the rest of the group. The same way you'd cast a fireball only at the monsters.

"The same way you'd cast a fireball only at the monsters"

well, if there are 6 monsters and 1 party member in the fireball radius...sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures

Especially if said 1 party member has improved evasion. :smallamused:

Reminds me of the time I told the party wizard to ignore my position entirely when casting reflex spells. With a ring of evasion, Kensai's concentration-as-reflex ability, and a really high concentration skill, in the unlikely event that I actually took damage I'd blame my dice, not him.
