So, in sanctum, if you look at the auctioneer on the far right, and if your guardian, you'll see that his name is indeed, Elan Greenhilt.

While I cannot imagine Greenhilt is a rare name in a fantasy world, and Elan being only very slightly moreso, the combination raises my suspicions.

Yeah, it has to be an homage. I've encountered a few other names about that are clearly nods towards other sources in the genre.

How many fantasy worlds have giant rifts threatening to destroy everything if they get out of control anyways? :)

Speculation: Roy and Celia have a boy while Elan and Haley have a girl. Their grandchild is named Elan in honor of his maternal grandfather.
