Another thread brought me to the back of the Players Guide to Faerun. It's a magical place full of amazing little gems and hilarious classes (Maiden of Pain is the only I am speaking about in this thread). But I remember when I first started dnd I traded in 5 paladin levels for 5 blackguard ones to qualify for the prestige class Maiden of Pain.
*I realize Sadism isn't on the blackguard list but I do remember it was house ruled on in my case.
But in a moment of nostalgia I looked at the 3.5 DMG and did not see that it allowed paladins to trade class levels with blackguard. I was very new when I did this and I do not own a 3.0 DMG so I have no idea if it was a house rule or legitimate character build.
