If you haven't heard of it before, Brushfire is a pseudo-historical skirmish game, set in an alternate Earth where small mammals and other animals take the place of human society. The humans of historical nations are replaced by anthropomorphized indigenous animals, a la Redwall. The game has quite a few awesome and hilarious units such as hamster berserkers, hedgehog hedgeknights, and leaping mouse Lancers.

I just came across this game at Adepticon, and I'm totally hooked. I've already bought two starter sets and got my brothers in to it. The basic rules seems pretty straightforward-- I got a fairly firm grasp on it with just a couple hours with the rulebook. I've found a few editing issues and mistakes, but I went to their forums and the designers themselves responded to my questions. Considering it's a company of 3 people, I find I'm more willing to accept some poor editing than I would from say GW. Also, having the designers themselves accessible to respond to your questions is pretty nice.

While the main rules are pretty simple, every unit (or weapon selection) has some cool ability that gives different units their own interesting mechanic or unique flavor.

I'll add more thoughts later, but as a child who grew up reading Redwall, I love the concept, and I've had a lot of fun playing the past few days.

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to convert a model for a Capybara Marine:

There is the metal Capy capt. model that could be used as a base, but that would get expensive fast, and has too many extra details. Looking at GW models, Ogre Bulls have about the right stature and some armor already, and might work with some additional plasticard/GS armor. Seems like vanilla SM shoulder pads might be quick and easy for the pauldrons. If anyone can think of any other historical/fantasy models that might make a good base, I'd love to hear about it.

This looks really cool, though I really don't have the time or money for a hobby like this right now. Love the aesthetic and setting.
