Is there a spell, magic item, etc. for conveniently dismissing/summoning a mount or other sidekick? Like core's Bracelet of Friends, but ideally reuseable and two-way?

The context is likely a construct, so needing to breathe (and willingness to be tucked away) are not an issue - but most Large creatures exceed the max weight (1,500 lbs) for bags of holding, so that's been a sticking point.

Or, sort of like a Figurine of Wondrous Power but for a creature of choice.

If Drizzt can have one, why not us!

If it's a construct, you could maye use Shrink Item on it, dropping it's when to 1/16th of what it was. Then it'll fit... Ask your DM first.

That's a great idea, and constructs are like nonmagical items in that, IIRC, Detect Magic doesn't register an aura...but I believe that RAW they are Creatures and not Objects (a distinction which pervades many spells) so it wouldn't work. But I suppose it's a reasonable thing to ask a DM to houserule on. It might take a high CL to get within the 2 cubic feet / level.

Psychoactive Skin of Protean [MiC] is a slotless item that grants its wearer the ability to Metamorph (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Metamorphosis) at will. Then its a simply a matter of shifting into a sufficiently small creature that can fit into your pocket.

But it is ludicruously expensive.

There are a few ways to do this:

Bag of Holding Type III (7400 GP, DMG). A non-living construct does not need to breathe or worry about food/water. Assuming it's a large-sized creature, it can "squeeze" down to fit inside a 5' x 5' x 5' cube (125 cubic feet), which is just under the type III's maximum volume (150 cubic feet).

Shrink Collar (10000 GP, A&EG p. 80). Any creature wearing this collar is automatically resized to small-size. While this doesn't shove them into an extradimensional space, it does make them more portable and narrow-corridor-friendly.

Iron Flask (170000 GP, DMG). Target needs to be an outsider or extraplanar (so make sure the construct is native to the Mechanus plane). Very expensive, though.

Command-Activated Flask of Smoky Confinement (118800 GP, custom item per DMG guidelines, smoky confinement is from Complete Mage p. 117). A bit cheaper than the Iron Flask, but you can also bring the cost down by limiting the uses per day (23760 GP per daily use). It's not entirely clear this spell effect will work on a construct, which has an immunity to anything that requires a Fort save unless it affects objects or is harmless. Smoky confinement has "Target: creature touched", but you'll probably need a DM ruling to decide whether non-living objects (golems, animated objects, other constructs) still count as "creatures". Restricting the Flask to a single creature (the companion construct) and hand-waving the Fort save thing would probably bring down the price considerably, but it'd be up to you how much that would be.

an enveloping pit is a cheap solution, at only 3,000 gold. Alignment restriction, but it hold far more than a bag of holding, and costs far less. Doesn't even say that it's airless, so you could even cram a living things in their. For funnies, put the companion in the pit, then fold up the pit and put it in a glove of the master strategist.

SpC has the Familier Pocket spell which is specifially designed for this purpose, well actually is designed for familiers since the space is only a 1 foot cube. But if you can get it down to that size it would work.
Lvl 1 Sorc/Wiz 1 hour/level.

I actually like Gloves of Storing from the DMG for this also, but again we have a 20 pound weight limit and it must fit into one hand.

Alternativly be a Paladin, you get to summon/dismiss your mount for free.

First off, it's familiar, not familier.
A glove of the master strategist acts like a glove of storing, and also provides true strike once per day, for slightly over one third the cost of a glove of storing (master strategist:3600 gold. storing:10000).

Glove of the Master Strategist + Enveloping Pit is what I was going to suggest too. It works perfectly for your needs.

Awesome, guys. And bonus for the cool factor of "summoning" it out of your own hand with a gesture.

We have a PC with high Use Magic Device to spoof the alignment issues of the enveloping pit, so that's no worry.

It's amusing that it combines two items which are "MIC powerups" (pit > portable hole, and glove of MS > glove of storing).

But you could do it straight out of the DMG, albeit for more cash :smalltongue:

Gloves of the master strategist were updated to 3.5 in ghostwalk, not MIC.
