Hi all, my GM is running the tomb of horrors, and I'm already on my back-up character. And this is where i need help. I have never played the ToH so i need to know what would be better a monk or rogue. Either way he has Vow of Poverty, so he'll be kicking butt on evil creatures. i just need to know if a trap-finder or a beat 'em up is going to work best. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest Rogue.

Why are your options so limited? I'd suggest a Factotum before either Monk or Rogue. If I were entering the ToH I'd choose a Cleric or Wizard. Is VoP a choice? I'm not a VoP hater mind you, I'm just curious.

The problem with your plan is that there is almost nothing in the ToH to fight or kick the butt of. It's all traps, tricks, and 'no save, just die'. Monk is utterly worthless in ToH, because there's nothing to punch, its saves mean nothing, and you can't outrun traps. Rogue will at least have a higher survival chance, though the most effective ToH character is anyone with full WBL who spends the entire lot on sacrificial cows to herd through the tomb ahead of them.

best for toh is probably something with at-will summons, really.

(may I suggest summon elemental? or even binding zceryll.)

Best for ToH is run the other way...don't look back. Failing that, Rogue, jack your dex up as high as you can, and don't touch ANYTHING

Your party needs at least one member with high search and trapfinding. In core, that's rogue. Outside, factotum is probably a little better.

You can safely multiclass, if straight rogue is boring. Swordsage is the obvious target, though you'll need to spend double skill points to keep search maximized

a beguiler PrC into sandshaper with the summon elemental reserve feat and a full wbl of cows should fufill all these requirements and suggestions to date barring "play a cleric" :P

My DM has suggested that we play ToH sometime. In preparation, I've started making a character. My plan is to create a master specialist diviner/Divine Oracle. And taking summon Elemental of course. I have never played ToH before, but I am hoping it does well.

stuff the other levels with rainbow servant and maybe sacred exorcist, and you'll be a better cleric than a cleric.
