Currently, I'm preparing a oneshot dungeon crawl in a Greek myth-inspired world. I am planning a dungeon that will have three factions within; the remnants of a necromancer cult dedicated to a low-level demon, different groups of monsters that just want to be live in the remnants of the dungeon, and a young blue dragon developing a power base by recruiting the weaker creatures.
For the demon-cult, I have three or four spellcasters and a small army of skeletons prepared.
For the aimless bands of monsters, I have Minotaurs, Harpies, and GTargoyles.
My question is what do I choose for the mooks? Kobolds seem to obvious a choice, so I'd rather not use them. Orcs don't exist in this world, and I am leaning towards a similar ruling with goblinoids. I guess I could use humans to be the blue dragon's lackeys, but I want something a little more unique.
What creatures can you guys think of that also fills the niche the kobolds and goblinoids fit? Preferably something that thematically fits with the other creatures?
