in the game i am running the PCs rolled stats using 4d6 - the lowest dice 7 times garbaging the lowest total as i am hoping to have a pretty high powered campaign. I have a question about monsters, should i be using the same way to determine their stats or should i just use the stats in the MM? what do you do?

I think rolling for each monster would be very time-consuming for little benefit. You should generate a high-powered stat array and give that to all monsters.

Even that can be a lot of effort if you have a large variety of monsters. The simplest way would be to use the MM stats and up the HP, for example.

Rolling monster stats would be very time consuming, as noted above.

It might be worthwhile for a couple of unique specimens or bosses, however.

Use the MM stats. 4d6b3x7 isn't different enough from 4d6b3x6 (the standard) to make the characters significantly higher powered.

Even when I run games with higher stat generation than yours, I use the standard ability scores for monsters and it's fine.

Just take the max amount for the monster's hp.
Example:
Ogre's Hit Dice is listed as: 4d8+11 (29hp)
The Ogre will have 4x8+11= 43hp.
