#635. All the way.

Something about maniacal laughter and über-evil, I guess :)

Also, Darth Vaarsuvius ftw ;)

#634. Archfiends being awesomely manipulative plus a nice build-up to the end.

This is really hard, because #634 is an absolute powerhouse of a comic but #635 actually physically gave me goosebumps when I first saw THAT panel.

But then, that was partly because the buildup in #634 was so good. And to fair, after the big panel in #635 the rest of the strip doesn't do all that much.

But then again AGAIN, #634 is hella wordy whereas #635 makes its point much more visually.

Except for the awesome expressions and spooky pink-out of #634.

Nngh. I wish these two were in separate polls so I could vote for them both.

...

#634. Just.

Numbers 633 through 635 are all absolutely amazing. But 634 features a truly masterful bit of manipulation, so it gets my vote by a hair.

634.

Awesome Buildup, Beautiful Manipulation, Fulfilment of a Prophecy, Aneurysm causing cliffhanger.

634 by a wide margin.

#635, but just for the visual first panel

Honorable mention however for 633 for having the most chuckle-worthy line.

Jephton the Unholy, Spawn of Hatred! A sorcerer-archmage, master of arcane flexibility!

Very strong set of comic. V's transformation in #635 is just too awesome, though.

I'm particularly torn this round; these are all incredible.. but I'll say 634.

It's a tough call, though.

To be honest when I first started reading this comic, I skipped these pages to begin with the comics immediately after this. These were just too wordy to start with. Later, when I was hooked and read the whole comic, I paid attention to the words and now these are among my favorites. The exchanges in this set are among the best.

633 has one of my favorites OotS quotes- " 'Give'? No. Do we look like socialists?"

635 is awesome for fairly obvious reasons.

But for Lee's endgame and the spectacular build up, my vote goes to 634.

I'll vote for 631, as a former Post Office employee I find that letter rather amusing.

All the sequence is masterful, and it's terrible to choose a winner, in such a crescendo. my vote is for 634 and "I Must succeed", but i feel so sorry for 635 and Darth V... :smallfrown:

#635 had the cool image, but that is all it had. The character building, the long-awaited four words, that as all #634 for me. (Just making my case, since I was in a hurry when I posted my vote)

Joerg

These are all excellent. The last panel of 631 is hilarious, the temptation of the fiends is masterful indeed. But because I didn't really like the solution of the "four words" prophecy and because I do really like V's transformation, my vote goes to 635.

634. Bonus points for being a "two and a half" long comic. Always love to see those.

Agreed. If I had to vote for favorite page of all time, it would be one of these, or one of the splashes from the Azure City arc.

Gotta be 635

Here's why. First, "I see a red robe and I want to paint it black" is an epic title. Although the giant probably meant it to reference the Rolling Stones song, it also makes a lot of people think of Raistlin from Dragonlance, which is a great comparison for V, although hopefully with a different final result.

Second, even though the previous comic has the story buildup and the four words, 635, imo, is the real payoff. We get the amazing splash panel and the first look at darth V.

Third, can you tell me when you reached the last panel and saw the faux latin that you didn't think of FFVII (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcUulyx5HM0&feature=related)?

I don't normally vote in these threads (not just because of my commentary role), but I have to put my vote in for 634, for all the reasons I gave when it came out (http://webcomics.morganwick.com/2009/03/because-someone-claimed-part-v-of-webcomics-identity-crisis-didnt-count-as-februarys-oots-post-also-mega-mega-spoilers/).

I actually don't like 635. It's dominated by a single panel, a single panel I don't like looking at (I think I was a little startled by it when it came out), and the dialogue between then and when Uber-V takes off is clunky.

#633, for the superb composition of the first panels.

Panel 1, the fiends stand in front of V.
Panel 2, they suddenly surround her, and she don't know where to look.
Panel 3, they are channeling raw magic energy at one point.
Panel 4, the introduction of the splices, especially their facial expressions.
Panel 5, the fiends near V, trying to persuade her.
And the second-to-last panel, both the dark drawing and the dialoge.

Hmm, this one is a hard choice, none of these are really stand-outs.

Gonna go with 632 because I snorted at the "Bloodwar, Huh, Who is it good for?" gag, and mentally added in the "Absolutely Nuthin".

Gonna go with 632 because I snorted at the "Bloodwar, Huh, Who is it good for?" gag, and mentally added in the "Absolutely Nuthin".

And this just barely keeps 632 from getting shut out. Another vote earlier in the thread did the same for 631.

My earlier comment was based on a brief skim of the thread that gave me the impression 634 and 635 were duking it out, so I missed that 633 and 635 were slugging it out for second for a while there (though 635 did eventually pull away for second), and 634 was running away with it. In retrospect, 634 stole all of 633's audience, allowing 635 to take second for the museum piece of Uber-V.

The next batch of strips constitutes the entirety of V's battle with the ABD, and also allows the fiends to start providing exposition.

636 has V's display of force upon arrival, 637 reveals the full extent of the IFCC's plotting and confirms that Sabine has been working with them, 638 allows V to show off her new skillz, and 640 has some nice revelations... what? I missed one? ...oh.

That strip.

Well, I guess we know what's winning this round.

Expect 639 to run away with it, 637 to fight off 636 and 638 for second (with 638 posing the bigger challenge), and 640 to be the runt for not having much terribly to offer and the exceedingly topical, national joke.
