You all know why your on such an elegant and luxurious ship in the service of Senator Alea. She needs people who are of free standing for sensitive missions. Most of you signed up as freelancers, one is a loyal and trusted aid, and another a stow away caught sneaking into the cargo hold and in need of some money. Until now the senator has been unusually quiet, but she makes sure the pay is good to quell any questions. This is the first time the ship hasn't been used to tour the opulent planets of the core worlds party hopping or else visiting acquaintances, friends and family.

This mission takes the senator back to her home system of Cartiche, a large solar system known as one of the few bread baskets of the core worlds. The first wave of settlers here were fortunate enough to find four worlds suited for farming, this has made them some of the wealthiest people in the core worlds. Over generations they became noble families supplying food to a large portion of the core worlds. In time cultured cities sprang up hosting the most elaborate balls and parties, young men and women with hopes for the future come here to ply their talent. Most never make it, instead forced by circumstance to the farms.

By all accounts the system is a gem among gems in the core world. Twenty eight years ago this attracted the Sith Empire. They fell upon the Republic like a born predator, the Republic was losing on all fronts. Then the oddest thing occurred. The Treaty of Coruscant brought peace to the shattered galaxy. It stipulated an immediate cease fire on all battle fronts. This is where you and the senator come into play. Her home system is split asunder half under the control of the Sith Empire, and half still under Republic control. Constant skirmishes still break out between the sides despite the official treaty.

It's been over a year since the treaty and the Sith are counting their gains in the system. For reasons unknown the young senator thinks she will be the one to single handedly bring peace and unify the system once more. Her eyes behold even loftier goals though, bring peace to the Republic and Sith Empire. This is why your on the way to the cold resort world known as Crystoria, once a world for peace and relaxation it has fallen under control of the Sith. Senator Alea has been invited to this world personally by the ruling governor Inquisitor Braxus.

Looking over the icy plains of Crystoria everyone is filled with a myriad of emotions. Suspicion chief among them. Captain Gannacus thinks the senator is being foolish to attend this party in good faith. As the ship soars closer to the former resort town of Winterlights you look through a window to see the immense tower of the newly opened Winterlight, which the town is named after.

As you fly closer to the space port it looks to be a delicate town, with very little houses past a few stories. The entire town is calm and peaceful looking even from the air. You can see the Ski lodge off in the distance as well as the mountain the town sits under. The only thing marring the cities beauty is a harsh gunmetal grey military base dominating the area near the space port. Sith military vessels come and go from this with haste to who knows where.

----

All of you sit in the cockpit of the The Dawnstar looking down as you make final approach at the space port. You can tell even from here the space port isn't like most, much of it's made of glass and elegant curves to match the ice surrounding the town. Captain Gannacus gives all of you a look over before the inevitable summoning from the senator. Despite his apparent youth his face is marred by lines of worry, concern, and suspicion. He keeps himself clean shaven and tidy for meeting dignitaries.

He has a look of doubt as he addresses you, but doesn't say anything against your motley appearance “Whatever Senator Alea says don't let her get you off guard. I have a suspicious feeling about this whole affair. All I can do is trust in you now, most of you have stellar reputations. Let's just get in, do what she asks, and get out safely.”

Before anyone can get a word in edge wise the predictable beep of Captain Gannacus comlink goes off. The only words you can hear him utter in reply is “Yes Ma'am.” After this he looks at you “Alright, that was her. She wants us to assemble in the communication room so she can finally tell you what your job is.” He laves ahead of you, giving you a few moments to collect yourselves.

*Kai Looks around at the rest of the crew, noting that he hasn't had but more then a few snippets of conversation with any of them* Greetings everyone, I am Kai, the pilot of this bird. Before we get off this ship, I think we should make short introductions so we aren't going into a possibly dangerous situation as complete strangers. I'm a mercenary from planet Duros, met the Senator by saving a ship she was on when the pilot lost consciousness. How about the rest of you?

Entering the room Jimbobus briefly scanned each individual taking note with thinly veiled contempt for the Snivvian eying the luxury accommodations as though he would pry everything off that wasn't welded in place he was then mildly put off at his most recent hire, the Kel Dorian... What was his name?

Hmph, he thought inwardly, the pompous bastard had been one of the more shining examples for what they needed and certainly arrogantly demanded he be compensated as such. Turning his thoughts outwardly he smiled as warmly as he could given his contempt..

"Welcome my new friends. I'd like to formally welcome you on behalf of the Senator." (Deception roll, OOC thread) Translating the same message into each of their native tongues with well-practiced fluency. Except for the Bothan, he'd have to make a point of learning it from him.

"Greetings aside, the Senator is a busy woman. If you'll now follow me into the communications room, we can get on with it and off this frigid block of ice." He strolled passed the lot of them without a second thought, entering first into the communications room.

Gannacus scowls at you for such a suggestion and escorts Garney down the hallway personally. He follows the others, making sure Senator Alea sees them first. It only takes a few moments to walk down the hallway and through the wooden door (metal inside, wood on the outside to look good). A brass plate on the door marks this as the communication room.

Walking into the room it never ceases to amaze you in how the ship was designed. This room is spherical in shape, and gives the impression of room and wealth. In the center of the room is a holotable, a finely crafted circular wooden table and a set of chairs for a dozen people. The projector in the center flares to life and the blue image displays a rotating view of Crystoria.

Seated in the largest chair saved for herself is Senator Alea. In her white robes lined with fur for the weather and silver for decoration she is a stunning image of a senator. She looks happy to see all of you, except for the stow away. Her face shifts from happy to suspicion upon seeing him. "Welcome, good to see you've finally joined me for the mission details. I apologies for the intrusion upon our ship, but it has to be dealt with now." She stares at Garney coolly, unimpressed by his honeyed words from earlier "Explain yourself. I trusted you once, give me one good reason I shouldn't give you to the Sith. It would be sign of good faith that we trust them enough to turn over a prisoner, aiding my cause."

She takes a sip from the glass of wine near her before continuing "I don't care who you think you know Snivvian. I've been incredibly lenient with you. Although you are right about one thing. I can use your help, but your going to have to sign a contract in full. I'll pay you, but your to be in my service. Listening to my orders." Further north and south and the temperature soon drops too much for pleasurable activities like skating, skiing, or other winter activities. Senator Alea makes a quick call on her comlink. Presumably to Inquisitor Braxus, after a brief chat she hangs up. You heard her mention you. She then enjoys the rest of her glass of wine while waiting. After several minutes of waiting your startled when the boarding ramp of the ship descends letting in a light breeze and some snow flakes.

Walking up the ramp is an imposing human that is seven feet tall. He towers over you in his dark robes lines with black fur of some unknown creature. At his side dangles a lightsaber. Alea greets him like an old friend, but the scowl doesn't disappear from his face. They talk briefly, and you get your first good look of his battle scared face. You can see his right eye is cybernetic. Alea explains the situation to him. He turns to face Garney, and he doesn't look amused at the proceedings.

This is where Braxus smiles "Your not in the Republic, your in Sith space. Your wish is my command Alea."

The day breaks relatively warm for Crystoria with a light snowfall drifting past the view ports. As you wake up and slowly make your way to the communications room to report in for the day's duties you find Senator Alea waiting there for all of you to assemble. She has the snivvian dragged out by the guards and set in front of a desk with a holopad pad.

Garny: The holopad is open to a contract you must sign. A stylus is there for your signature. The contract stipulates payment of 2000 credits a month until the job as outlined is done. Until then your forced to be utterly obedient to the senator. Only a step or two above slavery, though at least the pay is good. She doesn't wait to ask you to sign it, she expects it. Captain Gannacus is watching you and just looking for an excuse to snap some limbs.

Once the Snivvian has been forced into the chair to consider his offer she focuses her attention on you. "I'm sorry for the delay once more in our real purpose here. I used the night to turn Inquisitor Braxus opinion of myself around. You can thank the Snivvian for this, Braxus rather enjoyed himself seeing him beg. I've been invited as a guest of honour to the rest of the ceremonies for these next two weeks."

She pauses for breath after so much talk before continuing "My goal is to foster and forge an alliance between The Republic and Sith Empire. All across the senate and debate halls we've found no headway. This is our big chance, but I have to get to know the man and his actions more. Myself, and the other dignitaries he's invited are the first republic people to set foot on Crystoria since it's capitulation to the Sith so many years ago.

She hits a button on the holotable in the circular room and a view of the solar system appears. There are twelve planets, six of them are habitable, and four of them are perfect for farms. Terra Omega and Crystoria are the furthest habitable planets, and the only two large one sunder Sith control. "Republic Intelligence has been unable to find the motive for such an invasion. They purposely went for Crystoria, the other barren worlds, and the asteroid belt first. Only conquering the farming world Terra Omega after they secured the outer regions and started to sweep back into the Republic held worlds."

"I'm here to find out what goal the conquering invaders had in mind to take the planets of least value. It's incredibly suspicious. Thankfully I was able to gain a little of his trust thanks to my treatment of the Snivvian. I want to get the edge over the others seeking the glory and wealth that would come with bringing true peace to the two Empires. To this end I have hired all of you. Many of you are excellent at gathering information, and you're going to assist me in this task. Hit the streets and see what the people think. I know there's several lodges and bars here in town. Now does anyone have any questions or ideas? I am to meet Braxus in The Winterlight soon, I need you to work as fast as possible. My success depends on what I have to use as leverage."

Well my lady, I can offer an idea right now. From the sounds of it, they probably took those outer worlds, even the barren ones, so they could use them as staging depots in order for a more larger, powerful invasion force later on down the road. That, and if they just went for the main planets, we could have the option of sneaking past them, building outposts on those barren planets ourselves under a veil of secrecy, and then striking at them in a pincer like move. I agree though, we should all hit the streets in an effort to find out more.

The senator avoids the offhand comment from the Snivvian. She turns her attention to the crews speculation "All valid theories, and you can find out more later at the local archives or perhaps one of those... bars the common folk hang around in. The one thing I'm sure of is they aren't here for anything good. When they conquered Crystoria there was a lot of people out of work, the Sith have little need of tourism unless it's for their elite. From what spies tell me few are in need of jobs, I want you to get down on the streets and find out who's doing all the hiring. Unless there are other questions I shall meet with Braxus and the other attendees. If you find anything out tell Gannacus, he'll be sure to tactfully relay the information to me." She pauses to see if anyone has any last minute comments.

That's not tactical knowledge. Tactics would be knowing when to flank an opposing squad. Or the best place to set up an ambush. Good hiding locations to ambush someone. Not things like figuring out intelligence on an enemy. Though it can be used to plan out a large scale battle (assuming your in the position to do so). Also typically you roll before you say what's going on. This way I can tell you what happens/you think of. So if you want to use tactics. Just make a roll for it, and I'll tell you what happens. Nodding to the Senator upon his return he addressed the group, "If we're all ready, we can head out now. I needn't remind anyone that we're in frothy waters, keep your guard up. I don't think they'll like us asking questions. Mistress, we'll report back to you immediately should we find anything pressing. Otherwise, enjoy your... night." Jimbobus coughed.

Senator Alea bows her head quickly "Well then we have a plan. Best of luck to you all, but I must be off." With that she leaves the ship making her way to the grand hotel, which is sparkling in the morning light.

Kai Sanlai, Garny Tornalkin, Torv Sey'fa:
You make your way into town observing the locals, what few of them there are. The inner parts of town are bright, happy, and gleaming examples of a tourist resort with people frolicking through the streets. Many are looking at the extravagant shops that line the street wondering what to buy and where. It doesn't take you too long to find your way to the side of town closest to the base, it's obvious from the streets that the people here are less than happy with life. Many of the fancy shops, high class taverns, or fancy restaurants have been closed.

Some have been hastily converted into rough bars for the new working class, and the Sith. Places like the Oloi'Matrowick, it looks like it once would have been a family restaurant with fires and homey wood construction. Now shutters have been hastily been installed over many of the numerous windows. A Trandoshan in armor guards the entry, looking for trouble. He gives you a cursory glance, but otherwise pays no heed. From the customers heading inside it's clear this bar caters primarily to aliens. A minority from what you seen walking the streets. Though a few humans are entering as well, most look like they're expecting trouble.

Jimbobus, Skalf Toro:
You two split off from the group heading towards more civil locals. The government offices, and services center is also located on the far side of town. They wouldn't want to remind tourists of their jobs back wherever they came from. Consequently few people utilize the archives except the token white collar workers needed to staff the various government services. The only sign's here that betray the Sith's presence are the silver and black armored guards that occasionally patrol the streets.

The archives themselves are no less festive than the rest of the town, with four large arches carved from ice leading the way into the building. Inside it's as quiet as night with people quietly shuffling to and fro with data pads. Conversations not getting above a whisper level. Inside the building is of moderate size, with two dozen public terminals, and the datapad shelves for more convenient reading. You see two out of place Sith Guards with stun batons at their side watching people come and go through the security checkpoint. The silver Imperial logo blazes from a massive red backed tapestry hanging patriotically from the ceiling. Past this is the receptionist to check you in.

The atmospheric and geological conditions point to standard fare for barren planets, they don't have any. What little mining work done there is done in stations and in mining suits. The majority of the workforce is robotic with only a small maintenance and mining team of humanoids. Old Republic explorers note the planet is extremely rich in mineral wealth, vast deposits of almost every major ore and mineral used int he galaxy are found between the two planets in vast quantities. Your unsure why you can't find the public log of people researching the two barren planets or how it's remained free from a strong mining presence this whole time.

The asteroids have a vast mining industry built up around Azero the first and largest rock to be cleared out. A vast colony of people live here and in smaller stations spread through the vast asteroid belt. The Sith have completely taken over the industry, but from the details on the space stations there's no way to hold all of the people that have been hired. While the two barren worlds have greater wealth it was always easier to just mine the asteroid fields. Though once more there are no records as to why the barren planets are undeveloped. Further searches into more recent archives brought in by the Sith requires approved access, though your not sure from whom.

Kai Sanlai:
You happen to run into a Dug who was pounding his fist on a table furiously while talking to a large Trandoshan. Not looking who you blundered to ask a question, and being so clumsy about it he takes offense. "Who do you think you are? Coming in here and just asking question like you own the place off worlder? Don't you realize where you are?" He jumps to his feet, his arms holding him up, and his legs looking ready to start throwing some punches. His Trandoshan friend doesn't look to pleased either and snarls something in Trandoshan, or just snarls you can't quite tell.

Garney:
The Nemoidian smiles at you, he's trying his best to be sincere but it comes off condescending. "Why do the Sith want anything? Because there's something to be gained from it. You don't exactly look like your coming to beg for a job though, why are you asking questions? Confidential ones... that can be quite costly" he gives you a suspicious glance hoping you get the hint he holds out his hand.

"If this little scheme of Sli's doesn't go as smoothly as he made it sound, i'd like to have someone who looks like he can put up a good fight with us."

Kai Sanlai

After quickly and efficiently dispatching the Trandoshan and Dug who so rudely attacked him merely for asking questions, Kai again decides to randomly question people in the crowd, this time while still wielding his Blaster pistol, in the hopes that he might intimidate someone into talking to him. Going up to the nearest patron, he strikes up a conversation with them, saying"Hi, you may have noticed my troubles with those last two idiots who rudely attacked me merely for being a bit clumsy and asking questions. I still haven't gotten any sort of information, and I was wondering" here he wields his blaster pistol menacingly if perhaps you might have heard anything about the Sith rulers on this planet. Anything about their plans for the future, both for this world, and the ones near it.

Skalf shakes his head as if trying to wake from a deep sleep. No, this must be one of those Sith mind tricks. I can't allow them to lull me into a false sense of security. He maintains his pace and continues to search for a place to hide.

The hapless smuggler makes his way towards Kai Sanlai to ask him what had just happened. He is startled to seem Kai pull his blaster and threaten a patron. "Hey, cool it flyboy! We don't need anyone else to end up like that Trandoshan over there!"

Kai Sanlai

Kai looks at his traveling companion Garney with a mix of frustration and amusement before looking at the person he is questioning and saying Excuse me a minute, I need to converse with my comrade for a moment. then turns towards Garney Oh, you mean that big dumb lug whom I could have used your assistance in subduing a few moments ago? Yeah, I'm the one who took him out, bastard attacked me because I bumped into him, so I ended up killing him and his companion here Kai motions towards the also lifeless Dug, then resumes Give me a moment with this guy over here, then you can tell me if you've found out anything yet. Kai then fully turns his attention back to the bar patron he was earlier addressing Sorry for the interruption, now, where were we? Oh, that's right, you were just about to tell me if you knew anything about the local Sith and any plans they have for this planet and the ones near it. Oh, let me add, my companion here, is an even better shot then I am, with an even shorter temper, right Garney? Kai quickly glances towards Garney, taking care that the bar patron doesn't see him, and flashes him a quick wink to signal him to play along.

"Uh, yeah," he says, "I don't like you either." He grabs the patron by the shoulder, "You just watch yourself, we're wanted men." He points to himself, "I have the death sentence on twelve systems!" He scrunches up his nose to look disfigured.

Garney, Torv Sey'fa & Kai Sanlai
Both of you see Kai Sanlai pointing a gun at an Ithorian who looks quite distraught, he looks at the blaster and begins to speak "We don't know anything, just go and see Sli." He points to the back of the room which looks heavily guarded by more Trandoshan bodyguards. After Garney speaks up the Ithorian laughs "I'm not fool enough to fall for that, now I've told you all I know so leave me alone." Torv stands idly by watching this all transpire.

At long last, your almost free, inches from rounding the corner into the next street you get pelted in the arm quite forcefully, no blood but it stings really badly. You can tell from how far and fast that went he tossed it through use of the force.
OOC:
You take 3 damage, also you need to roll stealth to hide.

Kalin Drace
You take the time to find a small chuck of ferrocrete, it's the lightest thing you can find. You quickly use the force to pelt him with it and it hits him in the shoulder, but otherwise doesn't impair him. He slips out of sight around the corner of the street.

Torv Sey'fa

After watching Garney's attempt to intimidate the Ithorian Torv can only let out a sigh. I definitely need to bring Kai along on these tasks he thinks to himself. He quickly holds up the datapad in front of Kai and says, "Garney and I have already met with Sli. We've got two tasks to do in exchange for this information so let's get it over with."

OOC: I'll be gone for a few days, so if anything important happens I just go along with what everyone else does.

Kai Sanlai

Kai looks at Torv in surprise. Good job you two, managed to get what we were after without having to start a deadly bar-fight. I need to take lessons from you two! glancing over at Garney as he grumbles about getting started, Kai quickly echoes the sentiments Yes, we've already wasted far to much time in this hole in the wall. Let's complete these tasks and see what we get in return. Hopefully it's worth it. With that, Kai returns his Blaster Pistol to it's holster, takes one final look around the bar, then walks outside.
