From a DM perspective, I found myself in a bit of a problematic situation. Do you award experience for killing summoned monsters? If a demon, summons another demon, and they both are killed, its only fair to reward the players for 2 kills. But what if the player summons a monster, then kills it. Do they still get the experience? Is there an official rule on experience for killing monsters that you personally summon?

Actually, no XP is given for summoned creatures (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#summon). If you fight the summoner, the ability to summon is considered rolled into his CR.

That apply for monsters with Leadership, too?

Monsters don't need leadership, they just have buddies to kick the PCs around. And no... when using Leadership, each enemy counts as it's own bag of XP and loot. It's one of the few differences in mechanics between PCs and NPCs

Doesn't that mean that a monster with Leadership has a higher CR than a monster with a different feat? That must make it incredibly broken.

It was never intended that a cohort and some dozen followers have the same value as +3 hp.

How could Wotc not see that Leadership was broken when they published the PHB 3.5?

Then again, almost everything in 3.5 is broken in some way, maybe it just blended in with the rest.
